We have been staying at the site on and off since December, and have found it to be very peaceful and relaxing. No matter what the weather, there is always wildlife around, even if you just catch footprints in the snow.
There is a toilet facility, with hand basin and hot/cold water. For winter months, there is a heater. Very spacious, kept very clean, with soap, towel and loo roll provided. Next door is the information hut, with maps of walks, printed walk directions in laminate sheets. Local information about what's on in the area. The blackboard lists the local village's activities for the coming month. A tea room has just opened on the site of a former pub, which is 5 mins walk from the site.
The field at the site is left to grow until June, when it is harvested. The range of different grasses to be seen is amazing. I counted 8 different types. Along with clover, buttercups, daisies, dandelions, heathers, occasional cowslip and even some wild mushrooms.
We have seen rabbits, pheasants, deer, munkjack deer, foxes, a badger, voles, a toad - who stayed overnight with us and on one morning I saw the barn owl hunting in the next field.
The owner is the most amazing woman, you can see her working around the place, and always has a welcoming smile for everyone. She strives hard to make the place as welcoming and relaxing as possible. My cats love it. Even the dogs enjoy all the scents they pick up.
There is a tea shaped avenue running down the field, with a water feature in the middle, on either side is a bench, which people have used like a wishing well. At the bottom, each end of the T are benches with parasols. There are newly planted trees, which will form a natural shade when grown.
July - with multitudes of butterflies, the overall atmosphere is of peace, with the drone of bees going about there business.
Although, there is a local airport, where you can take flying trips, and Stansted, up the road away, the only time you become aware of the planes is late afternoon, when you sit outside, and watch them overhead.
The only change I would like is somewhere to run the dogs, off lead and perhaps a shower. But even without them, I would recommend this as a wonderful relaxing place to spend time.
It is an adults only site, and the price has just risen to £12 a night, but that includes electrical hookup, and large, hardstanding pitch.
Well done.

Visited Golden Grove for our second visit. We love this site which is located in Great Saling and if its peace and tranquillity you want, this is the place for it. There is a craft centre not far away which includes a couple of places to eat should you wish to. There is a toilet/washing place but no showers, but that really doesn't matter. The information hut is alongside and contains plenty of literature on the surrounding areas including walks. And this weekend coming there is going to be a reopening of what used to be the local, into a tea shop within easy walking distance. Mind you, we intend to stay on site when we visit because it is so peaceful and relaxing. I was reluctant to leave a review as I don't want the site becoming too popular(in case we cant get on it!) But well done to Louise and her man on the ground Peter who is always at hand to give help and advice. Hopefully we will see you both soon!

Formerly a Caravan Club 5CL site, Golden Grove became a 9-pitch site with effect from 1 May 2013 and is now a Camping & Caravanning Club Listed Site. This growth in size has not in any way spoiled its ambience, which is a haven of peace and quiet in a wholly rural setting (although allowance must be made for the occasional noises to be expected in any agricultural area – for example, the sound of a shotgun on a neighbouring farm). Indeed, it is my favourite of all the sites I have seen in East Anglia.
Pets are welcome (though, as at most sites, dogs must be on a lead when outside their caravan – including when walking on local footpaths – partly out of consideration for other people and their animals, and partly to avoid disturbing ground-nesting birds).
The pitches are along the hedge and tree-lined north edge of a large meadow, and are thus well sheltered, but the wide southern aspect is open to the sun from daybreak to dusk. For TV addicts like myself, there is uninterrupted “line of sight” access to the Astra 28. 2⁰E satellite but terrestrial reception may not always be as good.
There is a WC with wash basin and hot water, but no shower. There are 8 water points, 16A electric hookups for every pitch (but it is advisable to bring a 25m cable), and a chemical closet emptying point with its own rinse tap.
Nature lovers should like this location. Owls are very often heard, and may be seen; muntjac and other deer occasionally trot across the site; there are rabbits in their multitudes, and I have myself seen hares in the meadow, though I have yet to see a fox.
There is no shop in Great Saling, but Shalford Village Stores is only 3 miles away and there are supermarkets within 5 miles. The former village pub is due to re-open in July 2013, I believe as a restaurant. Information about local amenities and attractions is provided in the site 'club house'.
Visitors are assured of a very friendly and helpful welcome at Golden Grove.

A real gem of a site. It is tucked away in peaceful Essex countryside with lots of space for the caravan and awning. It is full of rustic charm and superb value. Great walks for the dog. The Club Hut with toilet facilities, was full of useful information of where to go locally. A clean and tidy site. Louise and Peter were very welcoming and friendly. Thank you so much for a wonderfully relaxing stay. Will definitely return!

Peaceful, Adult only, CL Caravan Club site, surrounded by corn fields, affording good towing access with no steep hills etc.
Electric hook up provided on generous pitches with hard standing surrounded by grass, enabling dogs good access to sit outside, which ours enjoyed.
We rang and booked with Louise who was pleasant and very helpful, and on arrival, Peter gave us a warm welcome and local information. Thank you both.
There is a toilet on site with wash-hand basin and even soap, towel and hand cream provided-please note, this is a CL without shower facilities but there is lashings of hot water for hand washing.
The site information centre provided local walking maps and we enjoyed nice walks with the dogs on a lead at all times.
The location is not particularly suited to cycling as your choice is field tracks or, what I feel, are dangerous lanes.
Only three miles away, Braintree has a Wednesday morning market and there is a Morrisons and a Sainsburys (parking here £2 deducted if you spend a fiver) for all your provisions.
There are numerous cafes in Braintree and we had a lovely breakfast muffin and latte (£1. 90 per person) at YuMy cafe in the square behind sainsburys, we sat outside and the owner, noticing we had our dogs with us, brought them a bowl of water- nice touch! I must add, all the shopkeepers we dealt with were very friendly wherever we went, it really adds to a nice experience. Well done Braintree!
The purpose of our visit was our Nieces' wedding and we booked our dogs into Fourwinds kennels (tel: 01376 329647) on Coggeshall road near Braintree for the day. I was delighted with the pet accommodation and service Steve gave, and will certainly recommend him to you,
We had a lovely week at this site and enjoyed day trips to Clacton and then onto Jaywick where we gave the dogs a good run on the deserted beach, and on route we enjoyed a fabulous lunch at the Toby Carvery with a choice of 4 Roasts, all cooked to perfection for £5. 95 each. We also visited Frinton with its little boutiques and a nice department store.
The local pub was closed during our visit so I am unable to comment on it.
There is a small airfield about a mile away so there is light aircraft noise some days but it did not affect our enjoyment. Conversely, if you are interested, I was told they do 'taster' flights and lessons, ideal for an experience gift!
You can get a train from Braintree into London for the Olympics.
And finally, the cost for a night here is only £10 - for your Outfit and awning, your dogs and. Your electric hook up. Excellent value which boosts an already happy experience. We will be back, even though its a 5 hour drive.
***Congratulations to UKcampsite - Thank you for letting us know about this little Jewel of a site. *** We appreciate it.
