A tricky site to locate unless you have satnav! Once found, we had a free hand in where we pitched, although we were part of a larger group.
This is an informal site, very quiet (no traffic noise!), with very basic but perfectly adequate facilities which were spotlessly maintained.
We visited the White Horse at nearby Staunton and enjoyed an excellent meal although there are other options nearby, especially in Monmouth, a 10 minute drive away.
There are more local attractions, for all ages, than you could shake a stick at. Fine walks are plentiful in the immediate area.
The owners are very trusting, relying on your honesty to pay using an 'honesty box' if they are not available on site.

We loved our stay at Greenacres and have just booked to go back in August. It's a 'proper' campsite, no frills, very laid back, friendly and peaceful.
There are areas for campfires which is a nice change as most sites won't allow them and the site is very keen on recycling with plenty of bins and recycling boxes available.
The toilets and shower were spotless whatever time we visited them and there is a sink outside for washing up.
Coleford is just down the road and you can walk through the forest from Christchurch to Symonds Yat Rock (about 4 miles each way from the campsite).
Very friendly and helpful owners. Highly recommended.

We spent three nights at Greenacres. It's a lovely site, beautifully positioned and handy for the Wye Valley, Tintern, Monmouth and other sites. As others have noted, it's a short walk over the fields and down the hill into Coleford, which is a pleasant little town with many pubs, shops and places to eat. We must comment on the excellent recycling facilities; we were sad to see that even though the bins are easy to see and what's more everyone is given a recycling box, many people still seem to just thrown everything into the bin - such a shame when the site tries so hard.
The facilities are a bit basic - okay for the girls, but not so good for the men - but that's the only real negative about the place.

Lovely site. The owners were very helpful and friendly and offered advise on walks and things to do in the area. A small site with lots of space for children to run around and it is quiet too, the only sounds we could hear were chickens and sheep!
It is possible to walk into Coleford along the public footpaths from the campsite.
There are 2 showers ( one male and one female) but we never had to wait. The facilities are kept clean and tidy.
We didn't light a campfire but some others did and there was plenty of wood to use.
We will be booking again.

This is a small quiet campsite that I would definitely return to again if I'm in the area.
Pros - Shower was normal (not push button) with good pressure and nice hot water, field was clean and tidy with firelogs put ready in netting if you needed them, lots of recycling facilities near the toilet block, campfires allowed - the major reason for choosing this site is that it allows campfires (in the adjacent field) and we had a great time with this.
We collected our own wood from the forest and toasted marshmallows, roasted potatoes and baked salmon in foil on the coals. All very yummy!
Very few encounters with anyone but the people we met on the campsite were friendly and quiet. Close enough to Coleford to get shopping from Tesco or Nisa and baked goods from the bakery there. The rental rate was excellent.
Cons - Took some finding! If you are driving and have GPS this may not be a problem. We are walkers and luckily we met some nice people along the way in Coleford who knew the site and directed us a lovely walk along the fieldways.
Once you know where it is, not hard to find and about a 20-30min walk from Coleford. I called previous to going to check availability and get directions but no answer and no response to my voicemail so not sure if the phone contact is working.
Have yet to see the site owners (which we hear from their neighbours that they are lovely) but we posted the money through their letter box. Envelopes are provided by them for that purpose.
Toilet block is old and smells a bit musty but if you don't spend ages in there not too bad. Could do with a bit of a clean (bins were full and there was evidence of old mud on the floors) but it was adequate, well stocked with loo roll, hand soap, hand towels and the excellent showers.
General - As stated before there is 1 toilet/shower for men which I should think would be inconvenient if all pitches were occupied. If someone was in the shower with the door locked then no-one could use the toilet.
The ladies have 2 toilets and a separate shower so if someone was in the shower then 2 could still use the toilets. We were very lucky as with camping off-season, there is not a lot of competition for pitches, toilets etc.

We came across Greenacres on this website, whilst looking for somewhere to stay at 6pm on a weekday evening, having just travelled down from snowdonia, and not knowing where we were wanting to stay.
I phoned ahead, they had space for us, so we went for it.
2 nights, 2 adults, 2 kids, £32. A bargain.
Charming owners, clean facilities, loads of space ( only 3 other families on site).
If you want space, peace, and a great location, without prescribed order, then this is for you.
The 'ore pool' pub was recommended, and was excellent for food. £40 for 4 including drinks! (very good salmon and sirloins)
There is lots to do in the locality, castles, more castles, and over the border in Wales, a couple more for good measure.
Back on site, there were facilities for having fires, with logs if you wanted them.
Greenacres worked well for us. Thankyou!

We arrived here on a Friday evening for out first camping trip with a 2 year old! Lovely flat ground to pitch our tent and very well kept grounds.
Plenty of space for the kids to run about and because it was flat you could keep an eye on them.
Toilet facilities were basic, but clean and constant supply of loo paper. We didn't use the shower but popped my head in and very clean.
No hook ups that I could see Open fires were an absolute bonus and great idea to supply the wood (at a small charge).
Some nice walks in the surrounding area. Great for getting to Symond Yat.
All in all had a lovely experience there, and would go back for a weekend, but because of the lack of toilet /shower facilities and no washing machine / sink for dishes, would think hard about going for more than 2 nights.

Stayed here twice now, and both enjoyable times, and the weather was super. So nice to go somewhere were you can light a fire, and they will supply wood for you at a cost of £1. 50, we took our own with us. Great if you love walking, and also cycling, Symonds Yat is only 10 min away in the car, and also the Cycle Centre, which is wonderful. Puzzle wood and Clearwell caves are the same distance.
They def could do with more toilets etc, especially in the mens, as their is only one cubicle, with a shower and toilet in it. As the campsite was quite busy at the weekend, the men were queing. They are very clean and the people running the site, are so friendly and helpful.
We will be staying again, and taking our bikes with us.

Just got back from a one-night stay as part of a motorcycle trip. Was very pleased, and the staff were extremely helpful. Fairly basic site, with one toilet and shower for men, and one of each for women, but perfect for my needs. There was also plenty of flat land for pitching a tent. Was also nice to be able to make a camp fire, which is a rare thing nowerdays!). Nice area with easy access to most of the forest including Symmonds Yat etc. It may not be suitable for a week-long stay (with kids), depending on your needs, as there isnt much for children to do, although I would certainly recommend to anyone as a stop-over, and at just £5 for the night, it was a bargain!

We camped here because of its proximity to the Forest of Dean cycle centre. Its a 10min drive to some great mountain biking trails from family cycleways to proper downhill tracks.
It is 15min walk to Colefold which is quite a nice little village. Lots of things to do in the area. The campsite was clean and we were happy with the facilities. Nice hot shower and plenty of toilet paper. We went here specifically because we were able to have a fire. Will definitely be going back before the summer is over.
