Strange place to write about. Never been anywhere like it before, don't know where to start.

First of all, Battlesbridge is the weirdest place I have ever been. Just a bunch of buildings scattered all over the place, that sell antiques, bric-a-brac, even, dare I say, general junk. Quite pleasant actually, most certainly different. Muggeridge Farm is one such place, with loads of these little buildings.

To get to the campsite you need to go on the road straight through the middle of these buildings. Once you have managed this, you arrive at a huge field. A few scattered electric hookups, and three or four portable cabins in one corner pertaining to be toilets and showers. That's your lot.

There is tremendous potential here, but also a lot of work to put in yet. But at £11 a night including EHU, you can't moan. But I will give constructive criticism. There is a tap where you can fill your water up, an Elsan of sorts, toilets are disgusting (Jon, take note, you need a cleaner), showers work fine, but they are mixed, three of them in a portable cabin, but all with see through doors, so the only option is to bolt the door of the whole unit and stop anyone else getting in. If this is to be a going concern, these toilets and showers have to be replaced with something more acceptable.

People are lovely, Jon and Jim really pleasant and helpful. There are no shops close by that I could find, although we found a Tesco about 10 minutes drive away.

The place is locked up at night, after about 5. 30pm. It's alarmed, so if you walk into 'town' (well the Barge Inn), you need to go out the 'back' way. You can get out with a car, but I wouldn't like to take my van that way.

There is a Toby Carvery about 5 minutes drive away, that was very good. It's well placed for visiting Brentwood, Chelmsford, Southend etc. As I say, plenty of potential here, but still a long way to go.

This was our first camping trip, and it was a wonderful place to stay. The owner John was very helpful, and also the other people that helped us.

The setting was perfect for us, very quiet and relaxing. The toilet and showers were not fantastic, but more than adequate for what we needed for one night.

Very lovely quaint little village, and The Barge Inn is a must if you are visiting. Will definitely be back by the end of the summer.

If you like antiques then this is the place to visit, also spotted a little seafood shack at the side of the road in the village.
