Stayed here for a weekend, a great time was had. We had a great pitch looking straight onto the loch. Pitch had good room for awning with electric hookup. Good toilet block with free hot showers. There is a separate small area for walkers with small tents and this was well used. Small shop reception area caters mostly for campers. Great area for exploring and walking.

A site which is in a beautiful setting, we would certainly go back. You may need to book at busy times.

This side of the loch is less commercial as the west side and caters well for walkers.

Good wee pub in Balmaha served good food with plenty of parking across the road.

What a gem! This site is situated right on Loch Lomond with nearly all the pitches overlooking the water. The site is was very peaceful and the kids really enjoyed paddling in the lake with their fishing nets or watching the boats from the small jetty.

There is a really clean and warm toilet / shower block, although the showers could have been a little more powerful. Access is via a security code which we thought was a great idea. The dishwashing facilities were fine, in a separate building. The campsite shop was very small but did have the essentials.

Don't forget your rock pegs. We found the ground would not take the ordinary pegs. There were some sloping grass pitches on the main field but the majority were flat. The site managers were always around and constantly keeping the site tidy even mowing the grass every day.

There is a small playpark which is more suited to younger children, but I think the Loch kept the older ones entertained.

The site also takes backpackers on their own separate field with their own toilet /shower block, prep/ eating facilities and dishwashing area. The backpackers we saw were very quiet and kept their facilities tidy.

We visited the other C&CC site in Luss, on the opposite banks of the Loch but it is right on the main A road from Glasgow to the North so we definitely chose the best option.

Firstly, if you have never been here before, beware of the steep hill round the bend to the right when you pass through Balmaha and once you see the sign for the Caravan Park on your left take the 2nd on the left to enter. Once through gate we were taken to our pitch (which we had an option) by a member of staff on his bike. We were parked opposite the play park which had two swings (one baby, one normal) and a wooden pyramid with a chute.

There were two toilet blocks, the main one beside reception/entrance was very clean and had an award for Loo of the Year also had a separate toilet/shower for baby changing facilities and a Laundry/Wash Pan block which all were kept clean. The other block which was situated near the other end of the site was an emergency block which was for male/female once inside a door led to a urinal and straight on there were 2 cubicles and 2 shower cubicles which also had a pan wash adjacent to toilets this building also had security/storage lockers. This site was busy but surprisingly quite, there were caravan and tents mixed on one side also part was on a slope so make sure you take chocks and blocks of wood and on the other side of site looked to be mainly for tents and flat with adequate space, it looked like caravan side had hook up and tent side didn’t.

There are two launching ramps at either side of the site with a rocky/stony type beach with lovely views across Loch Lomond also a place for leaving your boat. The site looked to be well maintained and this was highlighted by seeing staff picking up litter with pickers. Pets are also welcome. The shop is very basic bread, milk, eggs rolls, etc. There is a meat/poultry van which arrives on a Friday evening and a Burger/Fish/Chip van comes round on a Saturday night, apart from that there is not much within a short distance, you can eat in at the local pubs/restaurants which are from Balmaha onwards – thee is a pub called the Oak Tree and you can get take away meals again basic Burger/Pizza/Chips etc, also the reception has a folder on menu for pubs/restaurants.

When entering and leaving the site you have to open and close a gate and if you are on your own this could be a nuisance. Make sure you take some Midge Repellent during summer months. The play park could have been a bit bigger and more selection and with having the toilet facilities they had a bath might go down well.

Had our last trip here in our old caravan a few weekends ago.

We are members of the C&CC club but it didn't start very well as the grass was so churned up from the recent bad weather that we could not make it onto the large grass pitch we had requested near the playpark, so we ended up high up near the road on a smaller pitch. The two male campsite assistants were very helpful getting us into position as it was rather tricky.
Used the small toilet / shower block on the first night as it was nearer but wasn't too keen as everyone enters through one door which is straight into the Ladies, then the men go through another door into the Gents - not an ideal set up. Toilets were full of midges too! Not too bad for cleanliness, but smelled a bit (from the Gents possibly??).

Second day was much better: had a good night's sleep as there is hardly any traffic on the road, weather was lovely and kids headed off for the playpark (2 swings and timber climbing frame with a slide), a short walk back along the road (very narrow pavement!) takes you to a lovely beach / bay, fabulous views of the loch and found the large toilet & shower block = HEAVEN!

Well deserved Loo of the Year, spotlessly clean, great shower cubicles, lovely hot water, plenty of toilets plus some washbasin cubicles too. Gents was the same I believe. Walked round the campsite, loch-side pitches are fabulous, small jetty / pier so if you are a fan of sailing etc, this would be ideal for you, there were several boats 'parked' beside the pier so they either hire or store them I guess.

As previously mentioned, the hill in Balmaha you have to get up is very sharp and steep but don't let it put you off: go slow and low gear and you will be fine. Campsite is worth it!

Shop is limited, (as is the one in Balmaha) so stock up beforehand or go to Drymen, especially if you need nappies / baby wipes, charcoal etc.

We will be back in our new caravan though, good site and very close to home for us so ideal for a last-minute getaway. C&CC Club Members Family rate is very good value (we had 2 adults and 4 kids under 7) for about £20 per night, nearby sites were much more expensive once you'd paid for the kids.

As with all C&CC sites (that we've been to) the amenity blocks were beautifully clean and warm. Despite it being Half Term in England we never had to queue once for the ladies showers but OH and son had very small queues in the gents.

The site is flat near to the loch and then slopes up towards the road. Sadly all of the EHU grass pitches are on the slope. All of the prime flat spaces near the loch with EHU are HS. There are flat grass pitches but w/o EHU near the loch.

The site has 2 slipways & 75% of the campers were there for watersports. The majority of campers had 4x4's, massive double axle 'vans, equally big awnings and Sky dishes.

Back packers walking the West Highland Way are well catered for with their own camping area and a 'hut' with lockers, cooking / eating / wash up area, showers & toilets.

The site seems to be quite boggy and after 2 weeks steady rain was water logged and quite churned up in areas.

The site shop is minimally stocked and pricey to boot - disappointing considering there are no alternative local shops. The staff seemed a tad dour especially compared to the very friendly crew at C&CC Luss.

The site is on the eastern side of Loch Lomond, close to Ben Lomond and the National Park, and 40 minutes walk along the edge of the Loch (along the West Highland Way) from Balmaha (a hamlet / village) with a superb pub, the Oak Tree Inn, serving great bitter - Bellhaven's Best and equally good food and also a bizarre little shop next to the pub. Further south from Balmaha is Drymen, a pretty little village dominated by the Winnock Hotel which serves good food and the front overlooks the village green.

30 minutes drive away is Balloch with a decent sized Coop and Loch Lomond Shores - a retail outlet place where the highlight is a Jenners. There are 2 good Italian restaurants in Balloch and a good Chinese. On the other side of the Loch at Luss, the Coach House Cafe is an absolute gem, fantastic food and gorgeous cakes and dog friendly to boot!

I agree with all the other reviews; this is a really nice site.

However the road from Balmaha to the site can get very conjested. It took us 30mins to travel the last 1.5miles. It was Sunday, 3pm & a hot sunny day. Don't let this put you off; just try not to arrive when Glasgow is also heading for this beautiful location! Once on the site you will not be aware of them.

Visited this site over May bank holiday, the reviews here are, as usual, very accurate.

Beautiful location, right at loch side, we booked a tent with electric and were placed up on the road side. The ground was too hard for ordinary pegs, not sure about other parts of the site but take rock pegs just in case you end up on the road side. Delta pegs went in with a few bashes from the mallet.

There are 2 toilet/shower blocks, one for backpackers which you would describe as cheap and cheerful and the other being the main block which was spotless.

Washing up facilities were fine, I didn't use the clothes washing facilities so can't comment.

OH likes a siesta on an afternoon of which I took full advantage and walked the loch side path to Balmaha, the real ale in the Oak Tree is very very good. It's a lovely walk, about 40 minutes each way.

Spent a day fishing on the loch, you can fish from the site but there are much better locations that aren't too far away.

The site was pretty much full but there was no noise to speak of at all, even before the requested quiet time on an evening. There is a little road noise depending on where you are situated but it's not too bad.

All in all I would give the site a thumbs up.

Would I go back? Unfortunately no.

We were eaten alive. From the moment I got out of the car, opened my mouth and the Scottish midgies realised I was English, they never left me alone. We tried everything from candles, to spray, to cream and more. The folks next to us were seasonal and said it gets worse from June onwards, so although beyond the control of the site, unfortunately that was my first and last trip to Lomond.

This was our first caravan outing and chose this location as it's only an hour from the house!

Very pleasantly surprised. This staff were extremely helpful and swapped our pitch to hard standing due to the weather. Also came down to help position the van. Toilets excellent and there is a baby changing facility which has a toilet, shower and sink allowing us to shower our 2 year old.

There is a small park with 2 swings, climbing frame with chute. Ideal for a quick play while making dinner :-)

We would definitely use again.

As per an earlier review watch out for the 90 degree bend to the 15% incline directly after the Balmaha marina.

The site is situated in a fabulous location. We were lucky to get a loch-side pitch and the views were stunning.

The weather had evidently been wet as the grass was pretty churned up - a grass pitch would have been a nightmare with 2 small children and a dog.

The toilet block was heated and very clean but it will be a bit of a trek if you are placed at the far end of the field. Staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Some points to note:

The dog walk is virtually non existent - we took ours out of the site via a gap in the fence in the top corner.

There is a steep right hand bend as you leave Balmaha - it is wide enough but get in a low gear first and you will be fine.

We walked along the Loch to Balmaha - it is a lovely walk but we had to be careful to keep the dog and children away from the numerous old campfires and all the glass and toilet areas.

We came upon this site by chance when going to walk the West Highland Way and were very glad we did! Unfortunately we got very wet, the rain arriving with us, and we were in a tent so we stirred up rather a lot of mud but that was unavoidable. The site was excellent for our needs with the toilets and showers very warm and clean and other amenities available to suit. We were pitched next to Loch Lomond and the views were beautiful. Staff were more than helpful and very friendly. We could not fault anything! My only comment would be that it would have been good to have laundry facilities available in the evening rather than just the morning so we could wash whilst cooking the evening meal thus saving us valuable time. This is a site we will certainly visit again.
