 As with other recent reviews, we would also award Drumroamin Farm Camping and Caravan Site 10 out of 10. Firstly, we were met by the very friendly and helpful Lesley (Co-owner) who, after providing a warm welcome, gave us a tour of the facilities and even provided us with a loan of an OS Map of the area and some additional information leaflets.
The on-site facilities such as toilets, showers and dishwashing areas were immaculate at all times of the day and night. There was also free hot water and free washing-up liquid, dishcloth and sponge, as well as hair driers and an iron / ironing board. Coin operated laundry facilities and the free use of a freezer (for ice blocks) were also available here (although not used by us). Next door, there is a lounge / games room with T. V. And a small information / book library, where you can borrow and/or swap books. Again, this area was spotless at all times.
The pitches were large and could accommodate most size of tents very comfortably and without restricting your neighbours. The grass was short, well drained, as was the surrounding area, which was again very well kept and maintained – ideal for pitching a tent.
This campsite is quite rural and about 2 miles (or 6-10 min. Drive) to the village of Kirkinner, where you can buy some bread and milk and some small groceries, etc. However, the campsite is surrounded with lovely scenery and is ideal if you like to relax and get away from it all, explore the South of Scotland; or if like us, you like walking, then you are very close to the Galloway Hills and surrounding forest walks. Equally, if you enjoy cycling or watching wildlife / birds, again this is an ideal location for you.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable couple of nights stay at a nice and reasonably priced campsite. We can also confirm that the access road to the campsite is a tarmac road, with plenty of passing places. One note of caution is to follow the directions provided on the Drumroamin Farm Camping and Caravan website and not your satnav, once you pass Kirkinner. Happy camping!

Having just left drumroamin farm campsite, Kirkinner, all I can say is, excellent. Took my 2year old grandson, facilities for him to play and wander about with his football unsurpassable. A very well cared for sandpit under cover so no worries about the rain, play frame suitable for older children as well. Owners very kind and helpful, short drive to nearest shop and with the road resurfaced no problem. Big very clean family washroom, both dishes and laundry washing areas spotless, warm and loads of hot free water which with a 2yr old is important he loved it with horses in the next field he was allowed to pet, thank you we will be back very soon

Dear past and future visitors, this is Lesley Shell the joint owner of Drumroamin Farm Caravan and Camping site. I am just leaving a review to let past users of our site know that we now have a new road leading to our site. All the potholes have gone and we now have a smart new tarmac road running to our property. This is fantastic news for us and we haope you will be happy too.

We have stayed at this campsite quite a few times. The owners are very helpful and friendly, happy to help. There is a playground for the kids while you put the tent up and a sand pit, basketball, and a pool table. Its in a lovely area, beautiful countryside, beautiful seaside nearby. Its one of those sites where you could just stay on site the whole week and you've had a wonderful holiday. So peaceful. There are shops nearby, supermarkets, takeaways, museums, plenty of places to go. Locals are really friendly too, we have asked directions many times and they have always been very helpful. The toilet/shower facilities are brilliant, really nice to use, plus there's a washer and freezer. We love going back there.

I have just returned back from Drumroaming, I can only agree what my fellow tenting colleague has written. This site has to be one of the best sites I have stayed on. I was very nervous at first as I was on my own with 2 children 3yrs & 10, as I arrived I was offered help to put the tent up and further checked upon if I was ok.
For me the best feeling was that the children could have the freedom to run about and not worry, this site had everything you could want, even when we did suffer at the hands of the wind and lost 2 poles, a team of fellow campers arrive to help us sort out and fix the tent back up again, the whole site had a welcomming family feel.
The facilities where second to none, even cleaning at 11pm, spotless! You can tell that the 'Shells' had put a lot of thought and time & effort, blood, sweat & tears in to renovating this site, fantastic, I truly cant wait till next year.
This site is great for getting away to relax out of a busy 'rat race', but it is remote so make sure that you plan for the milk & bread!
I could quite happily live on the Cream of Galloway Icecream!

The website photos don't do enough justice, giving the impression of a plain farmer’s field under a drab sky but we have just spent ten great days there despite one of the worst British summers. Down to basics, all the pitches are flat, large (approx 10m²), well drained and the ground firm but not hard, so pegs stay straight and stable for the duration. The grass was well maintained and free from rubbish and rubble. Some pitches have wooden picnic benches and some have electric. There is little protection from trees with only low hedges, but a low-lying situation means that the wind is slight but constant, resulting in NO MIDGES, tents dry quickly and there are unobstructed views of the Galloway hills and the estuary. It was really lovely to watch the changing weather moods over sea, mountain and sky. The sky at night was a special experience, an asset from being close to the ‘dark sky’ of the Galloway Forest, (one of only two awards in Europe), so that you almost look forward to a nightly trip to the loo block to see an unbelievably clear Milky Way on a clear night.
The facilities block was outstanding for us ‘tenters’. There was free hot water all day, each cubicle with a large (approx 5ft²) walk-in shower, and an adjoining changing area of slightly smaller size with ample hangers. Showers, loos and sinks with mirrors were in the same area but there was no queuing for anything and regular cleaning meant it was spotless and with lots of extractor fans, not smelly either, even in the muckiest of weathers. Across the corridor was the enclosed (and warm) washing up area with washing up liquid, sponge and dishcloth provided and a radio for entertainment if wanted. Laundry facilities and a freezer were also contained here (although not used by us), plus an iron, ironing board and hairdryers. A communal circular washing line was available outside. The owner even brought our towels in on a couple of days when there was a downpour. There were plenty of bins closely located to pitches, often emptied, with no smell or unsightliness.
This is a (thankfully) small and friendly site with a good sized grass play area with equipment for smaller children at the end of the site, but also separate hard play with baseball ring and tennis on a string provided entertainment for older children too. An indoor snooker table (40p) and bookcase with information leaflets and three comfortable sofas, a TV and DVD player provided a den for teenagers or a refuge in bad weather. The openness of the pitches meant there was ample space for normal games like badminton.
The site is at the end of a narrow long lane which goes right past the windows of the owner’s house, so security or traffic speed is not an issue and children and belongings feel safe. A small disadvantage is the trip for milk, bread and a newspaper is five minutes down the road to a very friendly grocer or a medium sized Sainsbury in Newton Stewart which is open till late. We got used to popping in each evening on our way back from an outing. On our first night we had a lovely meal at an unassuming inn in Kilkinner (nearest village) with fresh line-caught salmon and vegetables which they pick there and then from the polytunnel outside, with 10% discount for Drumroamin campers!
At first, this site appears to be a little off the beaten track judging by the number of brown signs near Castle Douglas, but don’t be fooled. Just to the south are beaches and the Isle of Whithorn used to be a mecca for pilgrims from all over Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland, visiting the shrine and centre of learning created by St Ninian. Even Robert the Bruce undertook it just before his death. Many of the ‘brown signs’ elsewhere have references to pathways and lodgings for these pilgrims in their history. It’s still easy to imagine the boats arriving at the inlets and giving praise for a safe journey at a little chapel at the shore there. The museum is very informative and the cave where he retreated is atmospheric and moving. On the way there is the little port of Garlieston, and a shoreline walk southwards takes you past the gardens of Galloway House and a romantic forest dipping its toes into the sea.
To the north are the Galloway hills and a wonderful afternoon watching the red kites soaring then diving to take food left by the farmer under the watchful auspices of knowledgeable RSPB guides was well worth the visit and small charge. A short (0. 5m) walk round the picturesque ruins of Polmoddy, an ancient village uprooted by the clearances and finally abandoned by 1800, was a stark reminder that these quiet hills were once home to a much bigger rural community. The subsequent managed forests are now host to mountain bike trails, that are apparently world famous (and free) and provided challenges for all of us, with spectacular scenery and long, traffic-free downhill runs a joy. Here too was the Galloway activity centre where we enjoyed kayaking and sailing in wetsuits we’d brought from home, but could be hired.
To the west we were delighted with exploring Portpatrick, the old port to Ireland and had drinks overlooking the harbour and read all about the exploits of the RNLI lifeguards on dramatic shipwrecks. On our return we were amazed to come across the tranquil and beautiful Glenluce Abbey. To the east, the beaches of Mossyard and Carrick were picturesque and clay-pigeon shooting at Laggan Activity Centre was huge fun. Kirkcudbright was a surprise with its castle and marina and lots of famous people seemed to live there - more to investigate than we had time for. On one evening we were ‘dragged’ by our son to watch a 3D film in Newton Stewart but loved the step-back in time in a renovated 1950s-style Odeon cinema with steep audience seating and an old-fashioned ice-cream and sweet kiosk run by youngsters – the film was good too!
So as you can see we had a great time. The weather wasn’t fantastic but it was sunny some part of every day and dry for a large proportion. During the variably inclement weather, light layers plus a waterproof, stout shoes, and a warm sleeping bag meant we were warm dry and cosy and we can’t believe we have no midge bites. Our family has older teenagers, a difficult age group to entertain, but we can’t recommend this site highly enough, for its excellent facilities, efficiency, cleanliness, and warm welcome; the friendliness, helpfulness and high standards we experienced throughout the area, the number of activities to see and do, yet with ample peace and quiet in a beautiful location and empty roads. We’re home only a day but feel disoriented and enclosed in the house, and the odd car driving by sounds loud – it was obviously a real break. We plan to be back sometime soon - we know we only scratched the surface.

Lovely site, very clean and tidy, Lesley was always cleaning the toilet block and empting the bins, she even went in and cleaned the toilets and showers last thing at night before going to bed, so they were always spotless what ever time you went in.
Entertainment; their was a games/t. V. Room, swings and slide etc at the far end of the field and near the toilet block their was a sand pit for the little ones, next to that was concrete with balls and a netball net, you could have a good holiday without leaving the site.
A lot of beautiful views and walks, in all a lovely area.
We will be going back their soon
The only thing is they share the same post code as the farm down the next lane, so the sat nav's may send you there as you come to that lane first, but we know that for next time

I spent a long weekend here with my parents. Owners could not have been more helpful with bookings, allowed my parents (with a caravan) and me (with a 3-man tent) to share a pitch.
Pitches here are the among the flattest I have ever seen. 10m wide and quite deep so no probs for us with the 2 units, an awning, 2 cars and a picnic table.
Facilities are first class - clean, well thought out, practical - clearly the owners of this site are proud of what they have and quite rightly so.
Plenty of electric hook ups, bins, water points.
Play area for children - well used! Good games room with book swap, video and dvd - very informal. Surrounded by animals on all sides of the site - about 1 mile from the road - so blissfully quiet and traffic-noise free. Lovely views of the hills in the distance - and the sea nearby.
No shop on site - but plenty in the area. Fridge for freezing your ice blocks, ironing board, iron, washer, drier - all Dishwashing area (fairy liquid and a scrubber included).
Excellent - will def return again.

I visited this site for 2 nights with my kids aged 13 and 8 & our dog.
This was my first time camping and I only did it after a nagging from the children who had camped before with their uncle.
I chose this site after reading the reviews here and I made a wise choice.
The site is situated near the coast with fields with livestock on both sides.
All the pitches appear to be flat and well spaced out.
The site was surprisingly quiet for the time of year and we had the pick of most of the pitches with only about 6 taken on our arrival.
As others have said, the facilities on site are very good. The block containing toilets, showers and laundry is quite new and in excellent spotless condition. There is also a pool table and tv/dvd/vcr.
At the far end of the camp there is a children's play area with swings and monkey bars.
We spent our time walking with the dog. You can walk from the camp along to an RSPB reserve on the coast then onto Wigtown harbour. There is also a forest at the top of the road with marked trails. We also visited the beach at Rigg Bay which is clean by UK standards.
One night we fancied fish and chips and headed into Wigtown, where I assumed there would be a chippy, wrong ! There wasn't any take aways at all and only a small Co-Op. Strange for a small town which boasts 7 bookshops.
Make sure you have plenty of supplies with you as the nearest place to stock up is Newton Stewart which is a good 24 mile round trip.
My first camping experience has been a good one due to the quality of this site and the wonderful weather.

My partner and I had a lovely stay here.
Lesley gave us a very warm welcome and showed us all the facilities on our arrival. The toilet and shower block were immaculately clean and remained so for the three nights we stayed. As much free hot water in the shower as you need. A family bathroom was also available.
There was a lovely washing up area, (even providing washing-up liquid and dishclothes) with a freezer for iceblocks and free icecubes. A washing machine, tumble dryer, iron + hairdryer were also available.
We didn't take advantage of the children's play area or lounge/games room.
I'd recommend this sight to anyone, lovely views and plenty of peace and quiet.
