Camping Le Palace is close to a beach (2 mins walk) and 1km to Soulac Sur Mer town centre.
You can use the LeBac Ferry from Royan to shortens your journey rather than going via Bordeaux, but it’s not cheap (64 Euros with a trailer) and I wouldn’t recommend travelling on a Saturday; we arrived in Royan at 1400 and got on the ferry at 1730, going home was a similar story about 4 hours to get on from joining the queue. Not dissimilar to getting on or off the Il de Re on a Saturday in high season.
The site is mostly Chalets and Mobile Homes, with camping and caravan pitches to the rear, within the pine trees and very sandy, occasional issues getting out, but never so stuck to need assistance. The Pitches are not far from shop, and pools and restaurant. Toilet blocks are plentiful and are clean, although the shower flow isn’t brilliant it does what’s required.
Shop is well stocked and bread fresh at 8 each morning. There is one indoor swimming pool, with an indoor toddler pool, sauna and splash type pool with a couple of fast slides (all heated). There is one large outdoor pool with four racing slides, one windy one and two higher longer tubes that finish in splash pools which we all loved! There are toilets at the entrance and by the indoor pools, all are very clean, but no hand soap which seemed odd given the antiseptic hand gel dispensers are still around.
There is a Bar and restaurant with a takeaway service, we thought the food was fairly priced but the bar felt expensive 6 euros for. 5 litre beer. There was also an ice cream place and crepes in late afternoon and again at night both week excellent and well priced.
Internet was limited to seating in front of bar, but was free.
There was a children’s play ground which looked good and was well used, alongside a crazy golf (clubs etc from the bike hire place on site) bike hire also fairly priced based on other experiences
The children’s clubs for various ages seemed to be well used and they all appeared to be having a great time, !with lots of interactive things for them to do. That said I’d doubt that many British children too part. Although it’s worth noting that all staff were great as was their English which rendered my schoolboy French redundant on most occasions.
Soulac Sur Mer beach front white sandy beach is lovely. A walk around the town with its many shops and restaurants is very pleasant the restaurant we are in was excellent food and service! The town in general is busy during this high season but I wasn’t looking for isolation so not a problem. There was also a night market on Saturday night which was great! Good range of food stalls and a bags etc which ran until midnight. Other towns/villages in the area also had night markets, we just didn’t get to them.
I’d also recommend a trip to Lac Hourtin and the restaurant at the beach and water sports were all great too.
Overall this is a great site, good staff and facilities only minor points on showers and hand soaps.

Camping Le Palace, is in or near Soulac Sur Mer. Itis mainly Chalets and Mobile Homes, with camping and caravan pitches to the rear, within the pine trees. These Pitches are not far from shop, and pools and restaurant. Toilet blocks are plentiful and are very clean. Beach is 2 min walk from front gate
Shop is well stocked and bread fresh at 8. 30am each morning. Both swimming pools, one indoor heated and outdoor pool with fun splash slides and changing rooms, and toilets are well and very clean. Bar and restaurant with a takeaway service was expensive and for a family priced too high, for basic chips and burger and coke. Internet was limited to seating in front of bar, but was free. We had an Ant invasion and the pitch is sloping and not easy to manoeuvre out of.
The kids play ground is nice and my 2yr old daughter loved this. Overall site is nice but not sure if I like that many chalets as seems impersonal for a camper or tour caravan. Camping Le Palace is catering more for the chalet user and selling and renting these, and seem to be installing more chalets while we where there. So is the camper been squeezed out. !
Soulac Sur Mer beach front white sandy beach is lovely. A walk around the town with its many shops and restaurants is very pleasant. In August id say gets very crowded. We enjoyed Soulac Sur Mer and had stayed in Camping Les Lacs for 3 nights on first arrival, in Soulac Sur Mer, a few days previously. Camping Les Lacs 5 star has a lovely pool and restaurant food is excellent and priced well. Site is a bit tired but seems to be under a face lift and new toilet and shower facilities been built presently. We moved to Camping Les Palace as we where bitten by mosquitos as we where in a hedged pitch and beach was closer in Camping Les Palace.
Camping Le Palace is well located to a beach and walking distance to Soulac Sur Mer town centre. (20 min walk ) Take Ferry from Royan it costs but shortens you journey rather than going via Bordeaux, and if like us you pay for ferry for your car and same again same ferry fee for your caravan so allow the double the ferry costs.
It is a long drive from Roscoff so be prepared but worth a visit, and the Medoc region many vineyards are a must to view. Miles and miles of vines amazing to look at.
