The most beautiful campsite, the old town was lit up at night clearly visible from the campsite. A very quiet site, access is easy, when arriving with a caravan or motorhome drive up the hill and take the first right and drop down to the site. The low road is better for leaving the site.
The campsite is directly below the old town with its four towers and a 10 minute (steep) walk.
Most pitches are service pitches and on grass and shaded which was a blessing this summer, the toilets are pleasant not too sure whether they are sexed! The staff are very helpful, we had an issue with our cassette which required replacement.
The Abbey at St Savin nearby is well worth a visit

We stayed here for 3 nights with 2 adults & 3 children. Very reasonable, fabulous market in town on a Saturday, bus service from gardens, 5 mins away, up to Castle & Art area & town, all free. Clean campsite, helpful staff. Visit made better by a free medieval event that was taking place the weekend we were there all free too. Excellent stay, will be back x No swimming pool, small play park, shower facilities dated but clean and plentiful. Definitely worth the cheap price. Can’t complain really for what they charge x

Arrived without booking (at about 18:15 to find the security barrier down and no sign of staff!), having phoned the previous week and been told there was bags of space. In the interim, a group of 41 motorhomes on a 'Tour de France' had booked and a school group were due to arrive the following day. Reception re-opened shortly before 18:30 and there were 4-5 couples/families waiting to get booked in (everyone except us had a reservation!). The reception staff member huffed and puffed a little before finally allocating what was pretty much the last pitch available - Number 72, opposite the old, but very clean and very serviceable toilet block. The reception staff member offered us the chance to move pitches after the Motorhomes Group and School Group would have departed. So, after a fairly fraught start, we were in!
Customer Service is very friendly - nothing is too much trouble - albeit that you sometimes have to play 'hunt the staff member' during opening hours. Free WiFi didn't work on our pitch but there is a cane sofa in Reception where you can sit undisturbed and check emails etc. I suspect that the WiFi would work well in the pitches in the immediate vicinity of Reception, but hardly a hardship - at our age, close access to the toilet block was probably more valuable!
600 metres walk via the attached 2. 4 hectares public gardens (beautifully maintained) in the shadow of the Mediaeval Castle - stunning! - takes you into the pretty Town Centre where there are a couple of really good artisan boulangers, a Co-Op that sells Super you supermarket products at convenience store prices and is open throughout the day until 19:30. There is also an open air Market a couple of times each week but we managed to miss it every time (too busy watching the Falconry Display - please see below).
From the Town Centre you can walk/climb up to the Mediaeval City and look out over the public park, wander the old streets, or, the highlight, watch the 1 Hour Falconry/Birds of Prey shows at 11:00, 15:00 and 17:00 each day. If you prefer to watch the birds in flight and try to photograph them, you need not enter the Show (think it's quite pricey). Walk to the ramparts above and you can photograph the birds as they launch themselves on a 800 metre loop around the castle tower ruins - beautiful sight!
Lots of cafes in the Mediaeval City and prices very reasonable (€3. 70 for a Crepe with Chocolate or Cream Filling) - not bad for a tourist haunt. Wander back down to the Campsite and pick up the shopping for lunch or dinner en route OR take the free Municipal Bus Service ('Navette') that runs about every 30 minutes and drops you off at the edge of the public gardens - about 200 metres from the campsite back door entrance. There is a public pool with sliding roof nearby (we didn't have time to visit but admission is about €3. 50). Our stay was 4 nights and we managed to leave the car unused during this period - it was nice to just wander to/from town as the mood took us. The nightly rate, for a late July stay, for 2 adults, trailer tent, electric and the car was a touch over €17 - a ridiculously good price for a well-maintained, beautifully situated campsite where you can just relax and enjoy life.
For an overnight stay to/from the ferry, or even a couple of days without the need to use the car, this site is very hard to beat. The way the Municipality has joined up the camping/free bus/public gardens access is really well done - it is difficult to think of anything that could be improved upon, and the value for money is superb. We will be back when we next feel the need to chill out in a very pleasant setting.

Stayed one night on our touring holiday. Very friendly greeting at reception - we were given a Michelin booklet about these towns 'worth a detour' and a map of the town. Fabulous view of this medieval town's castles up on the ridge. Flat pitches, clean shower/toilet facilities, 13 euros for the night including electricity and very typical of these wonderful quality municipal campsites all over France. A short walk uphill finds you in a beautiful historic town where if we had got there earlier in the day we could have visited one of the chateau's for free. This is a great site for a stopover as in the middle of France but arrive in time to have an explore.

We stopped here for 1 night during a tour of France (family of 2 adults and 2 children).
Lovely municipal campsite, very well maintained and very friendly reception. Cost us 7 Euros for the night (without electricity) as were in a motorhome. Small play area and in the morning the bakers van visits the site.
Right next to Park with lake and play area and a short walk into the medieval town which you can see from the site (a beautiful view!)
Toilets and showers very basic but clean and did the job. Like many other French sites - don't forget your toilet roll!
We really liked this site, it offers excellent value for money in a really great location.

We regularly find we need an overnight stop in the Poitiers area, and this is a site we like for that purpose. It's a classic, large French municipal site - and long may they last. It's well run, well managed, clean, efficient and cheap. In the traditional way the staff shut the barrier from 12 till 2pm and go for their lunch - don't arrive then.
It has all the regular facilities, some of them unisex which upsets prudish British visitors - though we've rarely seen other British visitors there. The facilities are clean and well maintained. There's no swimming pool, no entertainment, and no need to book. On arrival you get a handful of coloured brochures outlining the glories of this old historic town, but I'm ashamed to say we have never followed up that side of things, but the town is close enough for motor home owners to walk from the site.
Most British travellers seem hooked on their ACSI card lists and their Camping Cheques - thinking that is the way to be economical, but at 13. 35 euros for two people (2013) including electricity and free wi-fi we choose to stay at places like this instead. And so do many French and Dutch who know of this site.
