 Great site, small and friendly.

The facilities are spotless and the owners take great pride in keeping the site clean and tidy.

The pitches are nicely positioned and we had enough room for our large tent plus our car. The site was nearly full whilst we were there but never felt busy.

The owners are warm and friendly and speak english. They operate the site with a small shop open for a few hours each day and provide fresh bread every day on request.

We would highly recommend a stay, we camped for 5 days and wished we'd stayed longer.

There is so much to see and do in the area and great places to explore.

This small site is situated in the hamlet of Lutschental about two thirds of the way between Interlaken and Grindelwald. The site entrance and road are quite tight, thus not suitable for twin-axles or RVs. The site can be pre-booked, which we appreciated as we travelled in the peak summer season.

The pitches are all grass, mostly under trees, providing some protection from the sun, and most of them sloping slightly. The owners are welcoming and very helpful (though don’t speak English), show you to your pitch, and provide wood levelling ramps, if you need them.

The showers (1 Swiss Franc) and toilets are kept scrupulously clean. There are washing-up sinks (0.5 Swiss Francs for hot water), and a grey water/toilet emptying area. There is a washing machine, tumble dryer and washing line.

Bread can be ordered from reception for delivery the following morning. The nearest shops are in Grindelwald. There are two restaurants/bars within a 20 minute walk, but we didn’t try either so can’t comment on them.

Lutschental station is a 20 minute walk from the site, from there it’s a 10 minute train journey (4 Swiss Francs per person, dogs free) to Grindelwald. The trains run every 30 minutes, from early morning to late evening. It takes about 2 hours to walk there, apparently. We walked into Interlaken in about 3 hours.

Grindelwald is very busy with lots of tourists. There are dozens of walking routes from the village, with plenty of buses, trains and cable cars to choose from. You can get a free map, timetables and so on from the Tourist Information Office.

We’d recommend taking the cable car to Mannlichen and walking to Kleine Scheidegg, then getting the train back to Grindelwald. From Mannlichen you can see down into the Wengen and Lauterbrunnen valley. The walk takes about 1.5 hours on a wide, easy path, and has the most stunning views of the north face of the Eiger, Monch and so on (clouds permitting, of course), plus views right across Grindelwald and beyond. It’s an expensive trip, but well worth it.

Another lovely trip is to take the bus to Grosse Scheidegg, then walk to one of the cable car stations – either First, Schrekfeld or, as we did, Bort. The paths are easy, being tarmac or gravel, though going down to Bort is quite steep, and hard work if you have dodgy knees. From Bort you can take a scooter/bike down to Grindelwald, instead of the cable car. Again, the trip isn’t cheap, but the views are stunning, and it’s a fun way to spend half a day or so.

We’d recommend this site if you prefer to be away from the hurly-burly of Grindelwald and Interlaken. We hope to visit again next year, to have another attempt at seeing the North Face without cloud!

Like many Swiss sites, credit cards are not accepted.

This is an absolutely delightful site in a beautiful setting looking up the valley to the white-capped Wetterhorn.

The camp wardens were so helpful from the start, spontaneously helping us to unhitch and fetching woodblocks so we could level up the camper on our booked pitch maintaining the best outlook from the camper! They had limited English but this combined well with my limited German so we could communicate all we needed!

The facilities were kept spotless at all times. The showers cost CHF 1 for 3 minutes or CHF2 for 6 minutes and there is also a family shower running 8 minutes for CHF3.There are however private washing cubicles in gents and ladies with free hot water.Hot water is CHF1/2 for washing up(it's amazing how well you can wash up in cold water!)and there are coin-operated washer and dryer but we didn't use these.

The small playpark kept our 9,13 and15 year olds sufficiently amused for us to feel we could relax around some days and not have to dash off. There is also an outdoor table tennis table and a small indoor room with log fire on cold nights.

Icecreams and postcards can be bought on site and you can order bread the night before but for milk you need to drive or cycle up to Grindalwald or down to Wilderswil, where the local Migros discount supermarket is the cheapest place around for buying food (We were glad we took lots with

Us).

The site has a quiet atmosphere in a beautiful and peaceful valley with good access to mountains and lakes and an hour or so drive to Lucern or Bern.

The site cost more than we would pay in England but was one of the cheapest we had researched in Switzerland and we couldn't have been happier by paying more.
