 Situated on the banks of the Ardeche river about ten miles west of Aubenas this is a small site with only 12 emplacements, the remaining 30 or so being cabins. It's an attractive and well maintained four star site, being a member of Sites et Paysages. We spent an enjoyable twelve nights here in peak holiday time, the site was fully booked for the duration. We were the only British on site, two Belgian, one Swiss, the remainder French, some who looked like they were regulars. Charming elderly French couple who have their own pitch May to September and have been coming for 30 years!
The site is accessed directly from the N102 which is a busy road, so there's a degree of traffic noise. The access road is steep with a sharp turn, probably awkward for touring caravans.
All the camping emplacements are around 100 sq m, well shaded and face the river which is about 20 or 30 feet below, in case of flash flooding. Sandy pitches, rock pegs recommended.
Very basic shop at reception, bar with pleasant terrasse, postcards ice creams etc. Available also bread / croissants if ordered the day before.
Small kidney shaped swimming pool with recliners, also swimming and fishing in the river which is very clear and has a length of sandy beach with recliners. The river Ardeche here is quite small, shallow in places, although the campsite stretch widens to about 20m and over 2.5m deep in places, so ideal for swimming, diving in and small inflatables. Resident beavers appear in the evening and don't seem bothered by people.
Three large communal barbecues available. Fridges for hire, a bargain 15 euro for our entire stay.
Large play area with climbing frames, also used for volleyball, petanque and occasional archery lesons. This area was also used by the teenagers in the evening - a little noisy until midnight for us as our pitch was adjacent, although to be expected in peak season.
Superb laundry / ironing facilities, very hot water and deep basins, plus free use of microwave and combination oven, giving us a lot more scope for cooking. Toilet blocks cleaned regularly, showers are solar heated.
Small (expensive) epicerie next to the campsite at Neyrac. Cash machine, small but well stocked Casino shop, news/tabac and a handful of restaurants at Thueyts 2 miles to west. Bank and larger Intermarche at Lalevade six miles to east. Aubenas for major shopping.
Local attractions: River swimming in the Ardeche at various locations including Pont de Diable at Thueyts idyllic location but was very busy in August.
Chateau Ventadour (2 mi) - eccentric owner and his volunteers offer personal guided tours of medieval castle which has been undergoing restoration since 1965. Well worth a visit.
Jaujac (4 mi) - pretty village with good market and boulangerie selling wonderful cheesy bread and pastries. Lovely swimming in the river Lignon nearby. Parcours adventure trail nearby.
L'Argentiere (16 mi)- lovely medieval town.
Ardeche Gorges about an hour away.
