Stayed here for Rugby World Cup games. Nice site not far from Lyon. On several levels, mostly hardstanding with small grass area for tents.
Friendly and helpful reception, can order baguettes etc. For the morning.
Modern sanitary facilities, frequently cleaned. Some traffic and other noise as this is an urban site.
Bus into Lyon 10 minutes walk away, 15 minute walk to shopping mall and supermarket. Very good for an urban site.
Only real negative is lack of gate or vehicle barriers, so can get vehicles coming in late at night.

Warm welcome with lots of useful information. 1 day, 2 day and 3 day passes to integrated public transport system available to purchase and bus times given.
Able to order bread for following morning each day. Pitches are gravelled, so difficult for tents, fine for everything else.
Toilets/showers are good, clean, but are unisex, which might throw some people.
Large shopping mall and supermarket a 15 minute walk away; 10 minute walk to frequent bus service to centre of Lyon from village, bus runs until quite late.
Several good boulangerie/ patisseries in village, plus other shops.

Just returned from a four day stay to watch the euro's and thought an up to date review was needed. Overall a very nice campsite more suited to motor homes than caravans as the pitches were all compacted gravel. The only grassed areas on the site were on the camping terrace. Showers & Toilets were excellent as was the welcome we received. English was not a problem and the Wi-Fi is still free.
We took the bus into Lyon, an all day liberty ticket costs 5. 5 euros available from reception and with the free tourist maps, you will be able to travel anywhere on the buses, Underground & Trams with this ticket, there is plenty to see & do in Lyon. The Cathedral in Fouvierre is a must as is the Museum of Resistance & Deportation

This site is as described by others but thought I'd add more information. The owner and his staff were exceptional. They accommodated us without booking on 2 occasions whilst we too were there for the euro's. They arranged early morning taxis to Lyon to catch trains to Paris and Nice and also phoned other sites to arrange bookings for us too.
We left our campervan there at a reduced rate when we took the train and used hotels which helped and gave us peace of mind knowing they'd keep an eye on it too.
St. Genis Laval is a small town with few bars and restaurants but the ones we used were terrific. One in particular had outstanding food and the owner was more than happy to let us take shelter inside during a huge thunderstorm and when we eventually left, she and her chef took us and 4 other fans back to the campsite in their cars to save us the 20 minute walk!
If you leave the site and cross over the main road there's a 10 minute stroll to an out of town shopping centre. Here you'll find a petrol station, a huge supermarket, a few independent stores and a cheap self service style restaurant where you choose your steak, chicken etc and they cook it to your liking whilst you wait then help yourself to veg, potatoes, sauces, salad, bread, wine.
We went to this centre 3 times for provisions and a bite to eat and it's all perfectly safe and the walk back is through a pleasant well kept neighbourhood.
The site is easily accessible from the west of Lyon and does not involve going anywhere near the city centre.

I am reviewing this site not because how much I liked it, because I didn't, it's not the sort of site I'd spend any amount of time at, but how handy it is for a one night stop over.
It's easy to find, right on the main road but the main reason it's handy is because you could arrive there in the middle of the night and pitch up on the hard standing next to the entrance gate, plug in the EHU and pay in the morning. We were there for a night in high season, without booking and there was plenty of room. The toilet block was spotless and it was handy for plenty of shops nearby.
The reasons I wouldn't stay there for more than one night is because it is far from a rural site (which is fair enough because it is in the town) and because it's all hard standing, you feel like you're staying in a car park. There is no play area for kids and the entrance is open to the quite busy main road.

An excellent site for a visit to beautiful Lyon.
Busses pass the site to Lyon every 30 mins. All day travel pass for city, buses, tramway, metro €4. 90. Auchan supermarket 1 km with good access for vans and cheap fuel. Site is quiet and peaceful. Facilities are excellent and heated in winter. Friendly and helpful owners.
Free wi-fi. If you have time, Vienne is well worth a visit too. Approx 30 mins drive - interesting Roman remains.
St Genis Laval - 2kms distant - has shops, cafes and restaurants. Price for car, van, 2 adults + 10 amps €20. Per night (Jan 2012)

This is, by my calculations, the nearest site to Lyon. It's on a hillside on the edge of the suburb of St Genis-Laval (there are other St Genis in the area!). There are some bungalows but otherwise pitches are not defined but there was no crowding during our visit and tents, on grass, tend to be segregated from vans, mainly on hard standing.
The toilets/washing buildings in the lower part of the site (where we pitched)seem to have been renovated recently and were always clean. The site has a small shop (fresh bread in the morning should be ordered) and a building with tables for rainy days but otherwise no special facilities; the staff member that we dealt with had good English. No separation of waste. The site, especially higher up the hill has quite a few trees for shade and, the highlight of our stay, red squirrels running around!
There are a few buses (morning and evening rush-hours) calling at a stop outside the camp to take you into Lyon. Better are the buses from St Genis centre (about 2km up a mild hill) which go into Lyon at least once an hour for most of the day: more often outside the school holiday period. It is worth investing in one of the numerous day tickets which will take you to Lyon and back as well as on the Lyon Metro and up the funiculars to the old town: Lyon has a commendably joined-up transport system!
There is far more to do in Lyon, France's second city, than can be described here but well worth a few days. It is not far (by car or public transport, 20km?) to Vienne with massive Roman ruins and other interesting sites.
St Genis-Laval itself has several restaurants and stores - many of these were closed at the time of our stay (French holidays!) but enough to keep us going and we would recommend 'Le Mithan' for a variety of cooking!
