Please note that as from 2014, the site owner has advised that they no longer take touring caravans, motorhomes, or tents. From now on they only have Holiday Home Lodges for sale.

This campsite is the only one in Noss Mayo or Newton Ferrers, two places that are definitely worth a visit. I had never heard of them until I went there, but they are both great places on the banks of the river Yealm. There is a lot of water activity, yacht races etc. And some very pretty houses on the steep river sides. Noss Mayo has two very good pubs, The Ship sells absolutely lovely food. I cannot comment on the food in The Swan as I did not eat there, but both are right on the water with attractive gardens to sit in. Newton Ferrers has a nice little pub, the Dolphin, that sold the cheapest beer I have found anywhere in Devon. There is some spectacular walking on the coast path from Noss Mayo and there is a ferry that takes you to the Wembury side or across the creek. The scenery is just amazing on the coast and certainly worth a walk there.

The campsite is pretty small and on a slope, but the very helpful owner showed me a good, pretty flat place to pitch. He was very friendly and chatty. There is an adequate toilet block. Several posts on here say it is a bit grubby, I did not find that, possibly it has been decorated in recent months. It had free hot water in the showers, a definite bonus and lots of hand basins. Behind the toilet block is a little room with a microwave, kettle and fridge you can use free of charge. There is a large field above the campsite where you can exercise dogs.

Unfortunately the owner is converting more of the campsite to holiday log cabins as he can make a better living doing that. I do not blame him, but this will cut down the room for tents.

Used this site whilst walking the South West Coast path. Site is well located for local facilities although I didn't need to use them myself. As a previous reviewer has noted the site is slightly sloping however I was easily able to find a level spot for my one man tent. The site is well sheltered with cabins to one side and trees to the others.

The facilities are basic but thoroughly adequate with lots of 'free' hot water. Certainly no complaints! There is little or no Vodafone signal here however those suitably equipped will find wifi sources from the nearby houses :)

Overall a great little site tucked away in a nice village. Recommended!

Firstly, if you’ve never visited Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo, they are the hidden gems of Devon.

The site is relaxed with electricity, shower block and facilities including a fridge and washing machine etc.

The owner Scott is the most helpful site owner I’ve ever come across. He helped us organise a boat mooring for our sailboat and motorboat hire, etc. A total star!

There are three great pubs, a cafe, a boat club, a convenience store, post office and local butchers with great pasties, the water and the stunning costal path all within walking distance.

You must get out onto the water (River Yealm) it’s truly stunning!

It’s also a short drive from Salcombe, various beaches (try Mothercombe) and the chip shop voted best in the UK (the Cod Father at Kingsbridge)

We went for 10 days and are planning another trip soon!

Well first of all the facilities nearby are not a mile away as suggested by this site. Everything is very close to the site or rather down a bit of a hill! The site has a view over Newton Ferrers' roof tops.

Down the hill, there's a Co-op, a post office which sells lots of different stuff including local produce, a good butcher's ( try the pasties), a pharmacy and next to the site is a tea shop. The road to Newton Ferrers has narrow places but we managed fine and people are very polite about passing. There's a bus stop just outside the site.

The site itself is a sloping field so it could be a bit tricky to get level though we stayed at the top. There are six static type cottages and people who were already on site had parked in various ways to suit their needs- the instructions on the gate are to 'park sensibly and someone will come to see you'.

There was no-one about but we got help and advice for a lady camping. The duty warden has a caravan near the first static and we met him later. He didn't have to collect any money as I'd had to send a cheque for the cost of our visit prior to arrival. It's cheap though.

The loos and showers ( 4 loos in the ladies and three showers) are basic and a little bit grubby to be truthful but there was hot water. There's one washing up sink outside with not much cover and the facilities might have been a bit stretched when the day before we left, the Tamar District Association turned up for a rally.

There's a room with a microwave ( didn't try it) two washing machines and some fridges and freezers that were taped up.

The phone signal for O2 and vodaphone was intermittent and the phone box in the village is operated by a credit card so I had to walk up to the top of the village to make a call.

There are lovely walk all around the estuary but we didn't have time to do many though we did find time to visit the Dolphin pub and garden where the real cider was good and so was the beer.

I saw the duty warden help a couple jump start their van with his own leads so he's obviously handy and helpful. We had a lovely few days at this quiet little site ( except for the bells!) and will certainly visit again.

Slightly sloping, organised pitching, dated toilet block.Don't worry about minor details! The villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers and the walks in the area are probably one of Devon's unknown gems.
The only campsite for the villages and even if it is not quite what we have become used to it is the one place where you must go if you have the opportunity.
Our second visit and provided this review is well received, (I'm trying to be careful in my wording), we will go back again and again. Three super pubs with good food, a local butcher, a Co-op, a village shop, church bells from both villages that seem to compete with each other. Just outside the entrance is a 'Tea Shoppe' with the most amazing Cream Tea, but hurry, the star who runs it wants to retire. When did you last see a dish of cream decorated with Delphinium flowers! And a choice of three jams!

If this site was supported it would help keep all these local businesses going.
