Spacious campsite. No designated pitches, just choose your spot. We were right by the river.
Toilets and showers were fine. Bit draughty but ok in summer. Have to buy tokens for the shower but we used our ACSI card so got 1 token each per day free.
Restaurant was very nice. Food and service good.
Easy walk along river into town. Partly walled with cobbled streets. Very quiet, not particularly touristy.

I've stayed here in 1992 with my parents and this year I took my own family there. The same site owners from before too. It's a huge site and lots of space right on the river Moselle in amongst the vinyards. Theres a nice park for the kids to play. It's worth the money too.
Winningen is a nice walk to. We rolled up unannounced and got a pitch. The shower system needs tokens at 50c each. Good shower block as well. I live the area. There's a good train service from Winningen to Koblenz.

All in all this isn't a bad site. It's nicely situated on the banks of the river and there's loads of space, although pitches are pretty much unregulated and it isn't unusual to wake up to find, as we did that a camper van is nearly touching the end of your caravan, and someone has pitched a tent in the gap that's left ! The real problem with the site is the guy who runs it, we had a very bad experience with him which is a shame, because his wife is a grand lass who will bend over backwards to be helpful. I don't know if it's an issue he has with English people but we certainly won't be going back there.

You can't book in advance for this site, they say they always have space, and when we visited they were well filled but still with plenty of space for more.
There are theoretically pitches - we saw a very faded map! - but they aren't really marked, so it's a 'find a space you fit' sort of place. Most people therefore tend to go for the edges of the island, which are more densely filled, but not tightly.
Not a quiet site - there are train lines and roads down either side of the Mosel (you can swim in this, but watch out for powerful boat wakes), so distant rumbles go on, and because of the open pitch system larger groups do turn up, pitch together, and sit around tables chatting a lot. But in the week we were there it never went on antisocially late or involved loud music.
We were near the restaurant, so probably in the busiest bit. The restaurant is great, portions quite large, check out the specials to order in advance, good beers.
Plenty of English spoken if you can't stretch to the German, very friendly. I would generally sum it up as 'bustling'.
Winningen is pretty, with a laid out walk though the towering vineyards for those who want to see how the stuff is grown, and a decent bakery on the main square, one small Spar, there's a great fruit and veg stall on the road into Koblenz, though.

This campsite is on an Island on the River Moselle - surrounded by vineyards and green forest. All facilities with parking on grass with Electric Hook up. The on site Restaurant is very busy and reservations have to be made in high season- (Try the Liver).Bread and milk are available daily.
The on site owner Joanne is very helpful and will make any arrangements to make sure your visit runs smoothly-her husband Thomas runs the restaurant.
The walk in to Winningen is around abot 1 mile from the site past the local outdoor Swimming Pool.
The Winningen Winw Festival takes place around the first week of September every year.
