A lovely site, we visited in September and it was very quiet. We were the first British to visit this year, mainly Dutch and German visitors. The owners Bruno and Catherine both spoke very good English. Everything in the review below is still the same and as good.
There are three things you should be aware of though: 1) the site is 5. 5 miles from a main road, up a very very windy road (D219) with the last 500 yards being single track, 2) the site is on three levels and we would suggest you book a pitch between 1 and 5 as they are on the lower level – we have a Bailey Valencia2 and we wouldn’t have wanted to attempt to get up to the other levels 3) check when you book, the site will allow you to empty your toilet, the owners expect you to use their spotlessly clean facilities, we didn’t and were initially told we would have to empty the toilet 7 miles away in a lorry park! We specifically took green toilet fluid and they accepted this eventually as there were only six of us in total on the site, but it may not be the same in high season.
Don’t be put off though, the views and peace and quiet are amazing and well worth the effort to get there.

We first visited Simondon - just for one night while on the way south - a couple of years ago, and vowed we would return. Which we did this year, and it was even better than I remembered.
This is a quiet site, favoured by couples with younger children and older post-children couples. On arrival, the site can look busy, but that's only because the pitches are huge and people do spread out a bit!
The site is on three levels, with most pitches having spectacular (and uninterrupted) views of the Rhone valley and the Ecrins beyond.
The owners told us that we were only the second English family we'd seen that year - for some reason the English don't seem to visit this part of the Rhone Valley. As you might expect, the site is popular with the Dutch and as a result the information notices are only in Dutch and French. However, the owners speak excellent English, so this isn't a problem (and it improves your French!).
The site is on the outskirts of Ardeche, but all the main attractions of Ardeche are a 1-2 hour drive away, so it's best to look for things to do locally. Lots of yummy wine and some lovely, if not particularly challenging, walking (level of difficulty: Peak District with trees). There is plenty of walking/cycling that can be done from the campsite.
And the campsite. This places is perfect! It's actually a camping a la ferme with sheep, donkeys, goats, horses and chickens. Our toddler daughter loved feeding windfall apples to the goats and visiting the donkeys ever morning.
There's also a swimming pool (superbly maintained - and warm, despite being at 500m!)
It's very quiet - virtually silent after 10:00pm!
The owners are lovely, and always around (they also run a couple of gites on the site) and are very helpful. They have a small shop/bar on site where you can buy basic food but also beer and microwaved pizza if you need it! They come round the site every evening doing a 'bread order' which is hand delivered by the campsite owner the next day!
The owners' offspring run a restuarant on site - very beautiful setting, the food is. Ambitious, more like something you'd get from a good domestic cook rather than a trained chef, but nice to go to for a night!
There's also a children's play area (small) and a games room (huge - massive selection of toys, games and books).
The site is quite isolated and feels very safe - certainly, parents were letting even quite young children walk round unaccompanied. However, the village of Plats is only a couple of miles away, where you can find a small supermarket (check opening times) and other local services.
Oh, and there is free wifi!
The owners keep the site very clean and tidy - and only grumble (and it isn't really a grumble) is that the toilet block is unisex and you have to walk past the urinal (no door!) to get to the toilets/showers. There's also no toilet roll supplied. However, as the site is mostly used by caravaners, the toilets are never busy so this isn't really a problem.
This is the sort of campsite where people spend their days on the campsite rather than away from it as there is so much to do locally and it is also so peaceful and pretty!
Overall, a perfect campsite, with so much to recommend it!
