Plenty of flat space and ehu points. Covered picnic area available. Pool looked inviting. Small bar bistro was convivial and food cheap and tasty. Even opened for us on a Sunday!
Amenity block needed some plumbing attention and a general spruce up.
Staff were nice but often absent.
Not reasonable walking distance to the town.
About 3 miles away!
Quiet Riverside location with plenty of space for dogs and children.

A hidden Secret - This campsite is situated on a vineyard and surrounded by fields and the river with beautiful wide open spaces. A perfect place for fishing, kayaking into Montreuil Bellay and beyond, walking, chilling out and enjoying the scenery. We have been at this campsite for 4 years now, it is a beautiful place, the campsite is run by a lovely friendly, English speaking family who will make your stay really enjoyable. There is a bar and swimming pool, food can be ordered for the evenings which is always fantastic. There are 2 toilet/shower areas, a large shower block and 2 showers by the swimming pool, also a washing machine. A very rustic and relaxed place, this is camping. They also do Paintballing. The walk into town is always really nice, easily done by my 7 year old, takes about 40 minutes or so, bikes would be good though too. The town is absolutely stunning with the Chateaux and river, there are several restaurants and a creperie that are all very nice, and also a couple of family friendly bars. There is a large supermarket, chemist, post office and banks too, everything you need. It is about 15 minutes drive into Saumur which is also a must when visiting.
We love this place, we have a 14, 13 and 7 year old and they all enjoy being here. Can't wait to go back in June.

We too followed the Sat Nav, don't, the coordinates are wrong and if you put in the road address it takes you to other end of the road a few miles away.
Several of the bungalows were occupied and also 5 or 6 caravans. The caravans appeared to house local workers who leave fairly early in white vans (no problems with them at all).
Its less than 30 minutes walk into the centre of the town, well worth a visit with a beautiful chateau at the centre, cute pavement cafes, tourist shops etc. Etc A good walk along a quiet lane through grapevines then a little lane on the edge of town.
The site is probably fantastic in summer, in late autumn it doesn't appear very loved. The pool area is covered in leaves but as its not in use it doesn't matter other than giving an unkempt look.
Toilets ok, showers we didn't use so cant comment. Washing machine for 8kg wash at €3. 50 but no driers. No motorhome dump / fill facilities.
Owner friendly and helpful, spoke excellent English.
At €13 per night with ehu and free wifi we wont knock it, if you want somewhere out of season then its fine for a few nights.

We arrived at Le Thouet intending to stay for a couple of days, but ended up staying for 9 days. I can see why some people would not like this site, the bins were not emptied and the toilets not cleaned every day;however the showers were huge and the water was always just right. The swimming pool was chilly but enjoyable and refreshing, it does however need a bit of TLC. The owners are very helpful and the food is wonderful and good value. The Chateau de Beze which is close by is a wonderful place to visit. I would recommend this site if you like relaxed informal sites and don't mind if they aren't pristine.

This campsite is in the ACSI camping card book and is described as 'a small piece of paradise' with 'modern heated toilets' This was not the case. The toilet/shower block was not heated nor are they modern. They were outdated with broken toilet seats, uncleaned during our short stay, broken light fitting in dish washing area so couldn't wash up at dusk. Scolding hot water which is very dangerous to young and old. It is within 500m of a motorcross field which was in use at the weekend we stayed. Brown dust filled the air and the noise was so deafening that we packed up and left, so much for 'peace, birds and nature'. The swimming pool area and terrace were unclean with with food not swept away from under tables. The bins were over flowing and smelling, obviously not emptied for some time. The whole site is unkempt. I do not recommend this site.

The first review by MabelW covers most things about this site. However, I offer the following comments and hope they're useful.
Beware if using the 2011 ACSI book Co-ordinates in the SatNav, they're wrong and will guide you into the Chateau grounds in the town centre.
Very dicey if towing a caravan as I was.
The pitches on this site are huge have an open aspect and are fairly level but the site is not very picturesque. The toilet/washing facilities are basic but clean and functional.
The chemical toilet disposal point is immediately outside the toilet/shower block and is not clearly marked as such and can easily be mistaken for a water point. We used this as a one night stopover and it suited our purpose.

The site is down a track through vineyards, make sure you print your map on how to get there as the first sign is not easy to see from one direction on the main road, after that it's easy.
The site is very big and by a big river. There is a toilet/shower block, a covered BBQ area, plenty of bins. The whole area is very peaceful, there is a lovely pool up by the bar and it is all has a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere. You can book a meal to be cooked for you up by the pool which is to a very good standard. Fresh bread is delivered to order. Everything is very clean. The area around has some beautiful architecture and there are plenty of places to visit like Saumur, Richard the Lionhearts' resting place, a zoo who's focus is preserving the species and the animals are kept as they should be in a natural environment, the chance to sample the wines of the area and so much more. You may have visited other sites that are structured and regimented, but if you, like me, enjoy a site that has the basics and you have some space around you and come away relaxed, then this is well worth a visit.

Wonderful spacious site next to a river, plenty of room to spread out. Hosts charming and helpful with cabins and Gite available if required.
There is also a pool that may be available at certain times of year.
Ideal location for the Loire area.
Mains hook up and toilet block available.
Away from main roads but easy to get to so no traffic noise. Open all year round and once we stopped over for a couple of days to spread our journey time from the south to home.
Would use again without question.
