Camping Naturiste Les Lauzons - Provence

This site is is on the side of a valley with great views in Provence as such walking around the site tends to involve an incline I would not say it good with people mobility issues however parts are catered for disabled people. However you would not be able to get in the main pool as pool ladders in and out no steps.

Cyril the owner seems to be everywhere working on the pizzas on the reception on the fields, I mention this as he is very friendly and helpful as well the young girl on reception, and other staff/family too.

The pitches in the lower fields are very spread out and flat moving up to the main area the pitches slightly more closer but still spacious.

The areas are split into prairies each with a washroom/toilet block. Some site have shade part of the day The laundry is by the main building.

The bar area and restaurant look really nice and the layout too. There is bar time restriction time from 1600 till 2000 but this was in June not high season.

Prices are reasonable as well a small shop. Like a lot campsites order bread and pastries the day before, pay cash and get a ticket for the morning rush. The ticket system does make the morning rush seem smoother.

The restaurant set meals pre book the day before. However on our arrival we were fitted in on the communal meal having arrived and not pre booked to stay on the site.

I would recommend this as very good value nice food and wine and nice to be plonked next too a stranger and be reminded that most Europeans speak English.

A really good point of this campsite is there are some lovely walks around which have been trailblazed ( routes marked with paint). These you can walk round naked in the country side.

The area was very dry and hot when we went and this was apparently unusual.

The washrooms were very clean as well the whole site.

Good to know that local person/s sell local produce cheese mainly I think on Friday but may be wrong. Pool sides not in use during our visit June.

Limited phone signal

Limited Wi-Fi. This is down to the suppliers not campsite think phone masks in a beautiful area.

Cash in bar and restaurant. Card only

Visited for 14 nights as part of a group of 10 units of very mixed fitness & age.

The large spread out site occupies a large area of a pretty steep hillside - very challenging for legs & clutches in the August heat. Plenty of ramping and chocking up all over on undulating pitches. During peak season all cars must be parked at the very bottom of the hill - not fun. We were sited at the very lowest part of the site and therefore we had a very steep walk up to the reception and main facilities area. Some of our friends resorted to using cars to travel up. The pitches at reception level are OK but still have slopes and steps to get around.

Access to site from surrounding Motorways is very varied - beware.

Very poor WIFI (for 2017) at reception area only and little or no phone reception throughout the site - great if that's what you want. Communal meal was given very varied reviews.

A few of our party left early as found the site just too challenging.

Fairly cheap at e19 which was a positive. Little to add.

Since my last review of Des Lauzons in 2010, things have changed a bit. There is a new reception area and a new shop and some of the access tracks to pitches have been improved, but most things remain the same that is, a huge spacious area of meadows and woods for a great naturist holiday. I still recommend new arrivals with caravans to park at the waste bins at the bottom of the site and walk up to reception. Some pitches may need assistance from the owner’s tractor for access. The pool area is excellent, with two separate pools for the slides and general swimming. Forcalquier town is very pleasant and quite peaceful, except on Mondays when the whole town is taken over by a huge market. It is very colourful, and attracts huge crowds, but there is little there that you can’t find at every other French market (including donkey sausages). We always end up buying a few things anyway! Overall we find Les Lauzons a very relaxing, easy-going place to spend some naturist days, and in an area with plenty to see and do beyond the site.

First impression on arriving here is a little disappointing. The access road is very difficult, steep and bumpy. It’s best to park at the bottom of the site in the car park behind the waste bin enclosure after the bridge, then walk up to reception. The reception office and shop are a bit basic too – but don’t be disheartened, the rest of the site is excellent. There are numerous camping areas, some fairly exposed to the sun at the top of the site, and others in more shady spots lower down. If you have a large caravan you may wish to accept the offer of being towed onto your chosen pitch by the camp tractor as some of the tracks through the site are steep and bumpy. There are good toilet blocks dotted around the site, some more modern than others. The best feature of the site is the pool area – there is a large circular pool for swimming, and a pool at the bottom of the fairly exhilarating water slides, with large sunbathing areas, partly shaded, all around. You can walk ‘naturist’ for miles into the hills behind the camp, it seemed, without boundaries. We didn’t use the bar or open-air restaurant, only the take-away. Wifi is available around reception for a euro a day. There is a daily children’s ‘animateur’, and various evening entertainment around the bar – understandably less so late in the season. Forcalquier town has everything you could need – two supermarkets and a weekly ‘Provencal’ market on Mondays. The tourist office can help you plan other activities, including day or evening visits to the Observatoire St Michel and astronomical centre. (Fascinating but only French language). There are many beautiful villages in the area to visit, many being the starting points for excellent walks. If you decide to do the Gorges d’Opedette walk, beware that part of it is very precipitous and exposed – not suitable for children.
