 The site is on the edge of the small town of Carces, but is very quiet. It has the feeing of being quite crowded, being mostly statics. Some pitches near the entrance are quite shaded, but reasonable size, whilst the pitches on the higher part are more open. Access is quite tight for large caravans through the key-pad controlled gate (even for pedestrians). The owner/warden speaks good English but appreciates your efforts in French. Office opening hours are a bit quirky and not always a direct reflection of the information notice! Toilet blocks are good, but the lights seem to work on light sensor, or timer, so it can be a bit darker than you expect. Toilet paper, as very often, is BYO. Wifi is free and works well on pitches near reception. There is a small but nice looking swimming pool, but we didn’t sample it to test the temperature! As on nearly all continental sites, waste water has to be disposed of in the chemical toilet point. Carces town was not very attractive, in our opinion, but nearby places such as Cotingnac and Entrecasteaux are worth visiting. The restaurant La Terrasse in Cotignac was excellent – very much recommended. If you visit the chateau at Entrecasteau you will be given (for 7 Euros) a guided tour by the owner himself, Allain Gayals. This is a fascinating visit, though best appreciated if you have a little French knowledge. About 45 minutes away, near Maximin, is one of France’s numerous Velorails. This is a very amusing experience, pedalling a little truck along an old railway line – the downhills are exhilarating, but the uphills harder than you anticipate! Best with a team of four pedallers on board! If you want to visit the Verdon Gorge from here, it is a long trek, especially if you include Castellane in the trip. On our visit in September 2010 the D955 approaching Draguignan was closed without warning or posted diversions, presumably as a result of flash floods earlier in the summer.
