Second time visiting Canal Central.
Fantastic location, hosts are very friendly and homemade Scones to die for at their cafe. Only open weekends, but well worth a visit.
Just one shower, toilet but wasn't a problem.
Hired Canoes all proceeds donated to charity 😀

Lovely 5 van site. Very clean with up to date facilities.
A quiet location and owners very helpful and friendly, especially access routes with being by the canal.
Also gave lots of local information we wanted.

If this was a review purely on location then it would be 11/10. Right next to the canal, quiet peaceful country lane and lovely cafe.
We accessed over the hump back bridge, as did a larger motorhome - no problems. There was a car and caravan on site also so worth checking when you book whether best to use ford or bridge as the owners will be able to advise
The site is to the rear of the cafe and car-park, its a large field, well mowed with 5 electric hook ups well spaced. As pitches aren't defined then you can choose pretty much where and how much space you have, not sure 10 tents and 5 caravans could ever use the amount of space available.
One fresh water tap on the camping field, no area for grey waste so most seemed to use the bushes around the site. There is a chem disposal but it doesn't have any running water - there is a tap and hose but neither work.
Whilst the cafe is open during the day you can use the one loo inside, after that there is one combined toilet / shower outside the cafe for the whole site. Also used by walkers / cyclists and people using the cafe too, so really does need more loos.
The shower itself is like wet-room, very small space but plenty of hot water, could do with daily cleaning.
From the site you can walk, cycle, paddle in both directions. Its a quiet stretch of the Montgomery canal but plenty of canal boat and there is a horse drawn boat operation at weekend from the site. We did not use the cafe but it look really popular with a steady stream of customers all day.
Overall - location fabulous - facilities not great for £20 a night. That said we would visit again and use our own facilities purely for the location as its one of the loveliest situated campsites we have visited.

This is a reasonably sized 5 van C&CC site in a lovely location. There are many positive elements to this site and some other issues that future visitors should be aware of.
The location of the site is peaceful and picturesque. The canal runs directly behind the campsite and kept our children occupied watching the boats pass. Access to the canal is from a gate located near the cafe. There are two pubs within walking distance along the canal from the site however check the opening times as we visited the Navigation Inn just as it was closing. It appeared to be a nice pub but we obviously didn't stay. There are lovely walks straight from the site and the neighbouring horses were friendly and a great attraction for the kids.
We did however visit the on site cafe facilities on site which were lovely. Very good quality food at reasonable prices. The owners were extremely friendly and very generous, giving our children an Easter present after we left the cafe following a wonderful breakfast.
The pitches themselves were not particularly level and levelling blocks may be required depending on your pitch. The pitches were not particularly spaced out but luckily we didn't put our awning up given that we were staying for a weekend only. If we had then there would have been limited space to sit and no place for a vehicle.
The main problem we have with this site is access! On entry our caravan grounded on the humped back bridge immediately outside the site. We had no choice but to continue to drag the caravan over the bridge. On the way out my father in law towed our caravan the other direction through the 1ft deep ford with his 4X4 vehicle and we swapped over in the lane. This was based on the assumption that it was because our car had relatively low suspension. However My father in law could not make the tight turn to go through the ford when they left so they too went over the bridge and also grounded. I'm not sure what outfit would be suitable but in order for you to make your own decision we have a low suspension BMW towing a Bailey Pegasus 646 (a 25ft 10inch twin axle van) Make you own decision on access but its certainly a lovely site for camping and would be good for caravans depending on access.
Also, at £18. 50 we didn't feel it was particularly good value for money given the basic facilities. We stay on basic CL on most occasions and rarely pay more than £15 per night maximum.

We stayed here for one night at the beginning of April en route to London. We had problems locating the access and heart stopping moments when we had to negotiate the hump back bridge!
We found the welcome to be very warm and friendly, the location is idyllic.
However, the site has very basic facilities, the grass field is just that - a grass field with some electric hook ups, beside a canal.
As previously stated, I feel it is well over-priced. Have stayed on far better sites for much less.

Spent 2 nights here to test out a new tent. The site is down a single track road, yet only a couple of miles from the A5 at Oswestry. It is a C&CC 5 van site, on a fairly flat field, has EHU and one wet room.
There is a tea room on site, which is an added bonus, it is run by the camp site owners who make the cakes on the premises. There is an additional toilet in the tea room.
The Montgomery Canal runs behind the hedge, and you can walk along the tow path to the Navigation inn. There are also a number of other places to eat within a couple of miles.
This is a relatively new site, with very friendly, helpful owners. They have plans to open a miniature railway (work is currently in progess) during 2012.
They also rent out canoes to use on the canal, for which there is a very small charge by way of donation to the friends of Montgomery Canal, which I presume will go towards further opening up of the canal system.
Overall we had a very good relaxing weekend, and although it is less than 20 miles from home, we will return.

Camped here with a small group for a weekend break. The site is located in a great spot right next to the canal and has a shop/cafe on site. There is a pub a short walk away called the Navigation Inn which I didn't personally visit but other people did and seemed good.
The site itself is fairly flat and actually has hook-ups for tents which is unusual for small sites off the beaten track. The site only takes ten tents and five caravans and has only one shower/toilet, one toilet in the cafe and a portable loo.
The site had ten tents in when we were there so a bit of time was spent queueing.
The big plus point are the owners who couldn't be more helpful. Good to meet people happy in their work.
Will definitely visit this site again.
