We booked for 13 nights in July 2013. We had two large pitches with electricity as we travel with our teens and this gives them freedom and us (and the dog) some peace and quiet.
We found the campsite through Sites-et-Paysages brochure, the site is marketed as being close to nature … it is, happily my terrier saw many red squirrels running up and through the trees to entertain him.
The reception area is in the building behind bar/restaurant area and the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. We were shown to our pitches and on the way I was shown where the sanitary block was.
Our pitches were enormous as we were promised when booked online and they were well shaded. They overlooked open farm fields and in a very quiet section of the site, which was just what we wanted and could not have been happier. Level grass pitches with a gravel roadway, divided by low hedges/trees.
There is a nicely kept tennis court which we enjoyed as it was out of the way next to the vegetable patch and my teens enjoyed the ping pong tables in the games room.
The pool area was cleaned daily and never over chlorinated, my teens and husband made thorough use of this at all times of the day, although mornings and evenings were the quieter times, only once did they complain to me it was too full and that was towards the end of our stay when the campsite was filling up. Also, long swim shorts were allowed.
They also did the canoe trip down the river which their guide made great fun. Unfortunately the river is not suitable for swimming.
The sanitary block consisted of a circular building, female toilets with wash hand basin and male toilets with wash hand basin, also a disabled toilet area all around one side of the building. Then the shower cubicles in the middle of the building with separate wash hand basins/hairdryers cubicles. Around the other side of the circular building were the washing up areas, the washing machines and the tumble dryer. There were also two deep sinks for doing washing by hand. Alongside the sinks were the communal washing lines, which were a godsend for pegging out all our bedding halfway through our holiday.
Needless to say, all these areas were kept very clean and everyone using the washing up areas cleaned up after themselves which is always a bonus.
My family thoroughly enjoyed the food at the restaurant, a lovely salad bar followed by the main meal kept my hungry teens happy and we ate there quite a few times, relaxed atmosphere sitting out under the very large tree with a glass of wine, very nice way to end the day.
The village of Martres Tolosane we found rather disappointing, there was a restaurant but it was never open, the pizza place offered two seats and a table out on the pavement, there were five of us so we couldn’t go there. Other than that there was a sports bar but we were unsure if they served food. It’s certainly a pretty village though with some narrow streets, fun with a big car and a trailer.
The local supermarket was a big one on the outskirts of the village and that’s where we did our main shop. Across the roundabout is a self serve petrol station and a car wash, yes, my husband washes the car after travelling lol.
We did some sightseeing, Lourdes which is 1 1\2 hr away, Tarbes, St Gaudens, Aspet, Salies du Salat, le Fousseret, Aurignac and also Toulouse.
Our dog came everywhere with us and was always made welcome, before returning we visited the vet at Aurignac which a French friend had booked an appointment with.
Overall, we had a lovely, peaceful holiday. We were lucky that the campsite itself and the food they served was as good as it was because elsewhere was a bit hit and miss with places being open or too busy due to festivals or petanque tournaments. It’s a pretty area, with lovely people and feels very untouristy, which I loved, but my family prefer a bit more café culture places so we will probably not return for this reason.
