Please note we have been advised that this site no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. It is now residential units only and so previous camping reviews may not be relevant. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

We were a little apprehensive about staying at this site. We had read the previous reviews and it seemed it was the only campsite on this particular weekend which had any pitches available. We were a party of 3 units - 2 tents and a caravan.
The entrance to the site is impressive, as is the construction of a new residential site. What has been built so far is lovely. You bear left to the caravan site and the office is situated alongside one of the fishing lakes where there are black swans. We had been told to ask for John who advised us that he had cleared a patch for us at the entrance to the site. As this wasn't big enough for even one tent, he showed us to the top of the field and let us pitch anywhere, alongside the children's play area. John was very helpful.
Unfortunately the campsite has been neglected at the expense of the new construction which is a shame as it has so much potential. The grass has not been well kept and the ground was rather uneven and littered with bottle tops. There were many permanent tourers, some of which were in a bad condition. The view to the rear of the site is beautiful with Beverley Minster in the background, but we were also next to great mounds of earth which were quite unsightly. The place was inundated with wasps.
Most of the electric boxes were out of action and the nearest hook up was quite a distance so John provided us with a couple of extension cables and a 3 way adaptor. It was only 5 amps so it meant that between us we could only use one electrical item at a time before it tripped.
Caravans and tents had been allowed to pitch anywhere and were even wedged between the swings and climbing frame, making it hard to keep an eye on the children. However, due to the bad weather the site soon cleared and the children were able to play within sight.
We didn't try the clubhouse but it looked inviting with hanging baskets outside. You have to pay a £5 returnable deposit for a toilet key but they were always unlocked. We likened them to a ships toilet. There was never any soap. The showers were strange - the locks were dodgey and you had to step over a high entrance into a small bath. Notices advise you to run the water for 2 minutes beforehand to get them warm. They were adequate.
During the day 2 teenagers attacked the play area but fixed the swings once we asked them to stop. On our 2nd night, youths hung around and we asked them to keep it down at 11.30. At midnight we suggested it was too late for them to hang around and although they left, they returned in the early hours and threw a disposable BBQ at our tent and ripped it. Naturally this was frightening for our small children. When we reported this to John the next morning he said if we'd have rung his mobile number (displayed on the office window) he would have come immediately. He said that the public footpath between the site and Beverley regularly attracted the local youths. We were also told by a fellow camper that those who resided in the permanent tourers were people escaping debt and that items had a tendancy to go missing from your tent. We did leave our units unattended but nothing was taken.
HOWEVER, dispite what is written above we did enjoy ourselves and had a lovely weekend. As always, camping is fun and you get out of it what you put in. If you have great company you can't fail but have a good time. Our thanks go to John who was a diamond in the rough.
I wouldn't recommend this site to first time campers - our friends who were new to camping left after only 3 hours! The camp is winding down for the new construction and won't be there within 2-3 years time. Apparently the owner is looking for a new field for campers and if he puts in as much effort as he is doing with the residential holiday homes it should be nice.

I was really surprised when I arrived at this site. After reading the last posters review I was expecting to find a very nice well run site. What I found was a very run down site with average showers that needed updating, A very run down kiddies park. Caravans and tents scattered willey nilley all over the site.

We went to this campsite with our eyes closed and we never regretted it. Helpful friendly and a good atmosphere. The campsite is under construction these three previews what people have put is not what we recived. Tiolets sparkling clean, shower room clean but due to under constrction you will get a little mud when you walk to the showers and the tiolets not a lot but a little. The clubhouse friendly they dont bother you let you get on with it. Play area for children is a play area swings climbing frame etc. There is few ponds around the area for when fishing sesaon starts. The gentleman gives you safety advice where the children are concerned. So overall our stay was quiet and peacefull and thankyou your a gent (manager) and he does discribed everything according to the campsite when you make the booking. Ten minutes from beverley town centre. So these reviews from others are a little unfair.

Well it saddens me really as a Hull lad, living now in Belgium that this campsite has the worst toilet & shower facilities I have ever come across. My son of whom is 12 yrs old went to get a shower and came back and got a strip wash in the motorhome, "I rest my case" . Both blocks need demolishing and rebuilt. I would like to say though that the owners and the locals were very friendly and helpful, and there is a very good social atmosphere in the pub. I am sure that if they make work of the toilet & shower facilities, this campsite is ideal place for families as it has good access especially to the coastal areas, as well as Hull itself.

July 2005 Stayed here last weekend. Very run down and just generally not much care taken of the whole site. Toilets/ showers needed a good clean. The whole park looks run down, the grass needs some TLC and everywhere generally needs a good lick of paint.
However the staff were very welcoming and friendly, but we will not be visiting this campsite again.

April 2005 A very wet easter. As the name suggests there are plenty of lakes around this site. So a few panic attacks with younger children. Very bad rain so camped in a swamp for 3 days. Full of regulars who insisted its totally different in summer. Toilets were dirty, knee deep in water in the showers as plugholes were bunged upwith dirty hair. Eeugh!! Outdated playpark. Pub was ok, the regulars did make us feel very welcome. Turn right out of the site, lovely thatched roofed pub does 2 for 1 meals. Continue down that road and take a left to the biggest ASDA I have seen in my life. Dissappointed with the Deep, £25 admission, although kids and hubby enjoyed it. (Much preferred my morning in Asda). Hornsea Freeport is nice for factory outlet shopping with a softplay, go karts etc. Lovely area $16.00 as well with electrics, so not cheap
