One of the most beautiful locations we have ever camped in. Make sure you try and use the nearby ferry crossing. Almost camped across the River at West. So glad we didn't after checking it out. This is the quiet scenic site literally on the river with excellent canoeist facilities. The other one is tacky with arcades and a commercially developed layout. Perhaps West is better for kids to play. This site is small but great access to forest walks and the pubs. Rustic charm with satisfactory showers and loos (not Club standard), but clean and ok. The site organises canoe hire and transport so perfect for integrated trip. Or do you own thing with a great kayak and canoe launch.

At first glance this site looks perfect. The location is good being right on the river next to the pubs and hotels and it's small enough to feel like the family site it's advertised at.
Our experience on arriving was good and we were quickly given a pitch. The site is relatively expensive being triple the cost of the other site we stayed (also on the river) during our trip.
Facilities are average, being fairly clean. The toilets were ok but the showers were based in an old metal container which was slanted so we found the uneven floor meant only one shower was ever clean and two regularly had an inch of dirty muddy water in them.
Staff in the shop were friendly, however the shop is purely a water sports shop so if your looking for a pint of milk or a loaf of bread you won't find it on this site.
We found the member of site staff that came round abrupt and rude, which left a bad taste in our mouth as responsible campers.
All in all I couldn't recommend it, won't be returning and will be using the other site on the western side on our next trip.

This campsite is only any use if you're a canoeist who wants to pitch overnight en route down the Wye.
When we booked we had warned them we were six and had a large tent and when we turned up they weren't sure they had a space for us. We ended up pitching with our guy ropes overlapping the tents each side: less than ideal.
The loo/shower block was well below par, given the cost:
A) there are no gents/ladies signs so my daughters blundered into the urinals (all it would take would be someone to write 'GENTS' on the wall with indelible marker. )
B) the floor in the ladies lavs slopes, so even though it's mopped out a couple of times a day, there is a permanent muddy puddle on the floor because the floor is never dried
C) the shower stalls are the size of a tiny loo cubicle with no hooks, so you have to put your towel and clothes over the door - and they then fall into the muddy puddle when you elbow them in the confined space
D) washing up facilities seemed to consist of a boot sink.
I should state here that I don't mind basic facilities if I am only paying for basic facilities. This site cost as much as another we had just been to, which was spotless and well-supplied with proper showers).
We also found the site quite noisy. This was partly due to the cramped pitches, but not helped by the failure of the staff to quieten down those yacking away at full volume after midnight
The river was lovely (and you could swim in it) and the location stunning, it's about a minute from a decent pub and there is lots to do in the vicinity, but I will never go to this site again.

This is a perfect small riverside site. Facilities are basic and clean. Staff friendly helpful and welcoming. There are few sites where we are able pitch our 6m van so close to the river.
The approach road seems a little daunting but is absolutely fine with passing places and an easy turn to the site so large outfits shouldn't be put off.
Whilst primarily catering for the canoeing and watersports that abound on the river this site welcomes all.
Good walking all around. There are splendid eateries very close by.
