 This is a massive commercial site, set in beautiful countryside on a lakeshore near the Austrian border. We stayed for 5 nights in peak season & really liked it. Toilets are numerous & spotlessly clean at all times. There is a very well stocked shop. English is spoken in reception & by some of the waiters, but not widely spoken locally.
There are numerous activities on offer including mountain biking, walking tours, windsurfing, boat hire etc. We took a leisurely electric boat out on the lake. There are several nice places to eat & drink on site & a short wallk into Waging am See with a good range of nice shops & eateries. The tourist office in town sells discount train tickets to Salzburg that work out cheaper than parking in the city. Well worth a visit to see the Sound of Music sights (my son had just been in the school play!)
It is a short drive to see the Eagle's Nest at Berchesgarten, Hitler's tea house in the Alps. Chilling, but beautiful. The bus ride is the only way to get to the lift up to the top & is amazing. There is a fantastic salt mine near Berchesgarten too. Absolutely brilliant visit with huge slides that the kids will love (as long as they don't mind the dark). Tours are accompanied by a portable audio guide in English.
Superb, bustling site in a lovely part of Germany. Would certainly go again.
