Outstanding campsite. This site is an easy 10/10.

It is one of the smaller sites on the Jesolo/Cavallino road, but don't overlook it in favour of the huge resort sites.

It isn't cheap compared with what you might be used to, but is cheaper than other 4 star sites on the Lido coast. For what it is, it is well worth the money.

Access is easy, straight off the main drag. There is a vehicle waiting area inside, but if two outfits are already there, you may block the road waiting.

Reception is multi-lingual and competent. They wouldn't take ASCI card, insisting on taking and holding our passports which I always find unnerving! But check-in was very swift. The mix was about 75% German, 20% Italian and a sprinkling of Dutch and Austrians. We were the only Brits on the whole site!

We had booked a sea-front pitch although it cost more. Access is easy-ish with a well made road round the site. Parking can be inconsiderate, but no fault to the site itself.

The pitch had its own water tap, EHU (correct polarity) and grey water drain. The pitch was a very decent size for the area, probably about 100 m2. There is partial shade and the ground is soft and sandy. Directly opposite was a small slide and climbing frame. The site sprays anti-mossie every few days and we had no mossie problems.

The Adriatic Sea is thirty yards away. There is a terrific sandy beach, which is good for little ones as it does not get deep for a long way out. The waves were fun for the kids without being dangerous. It has a life guard, sun loungers and a really nice beach bar for ice creams, coffee, beers and pizzas. On beach shower for washing the sand off.

The campsite also has a couple of swimming pools with a water slide and a spa area with water jets. We used this facility twice, but most days it was down to the beach.

The shop is terrific. Well stocked with a very impressive delicatessen and wonderful staff, although they all repeatedly assumed that we were German (“son non Tedesco” with a smile!) Local cheap wine on tap – you pay for how much you fill your bottles up with! Cold beer and bottled white, good reds (you gotta try their Amarone!), a good selection of English essentials (PG Tips, Tomato K, Marmalade, etc). Lots of beach and swimming stuff including inflatables, spades, kites, scooters etc. There is a restaurant/pizzeria that looked good, but we didn’t use it.

Sanitary block is new, with plentiful facilities and continuously cleaned. Good showers, big cubicles. There is a chemical disposal in a discrete cubicle, which was novel.

The site has a reciprocal arrangement with the neighbouring site, the huge Union Lido. We don’t like these massive resort sites, so we didn’t use it. A little train will take you from Camping Italy to Union Lido several times a day.

The office will arrange bus and vaporetti (water bus) tickets to Venice, but it is actually cheaper and more convenient to drive the ten minutes up to Punta Sabbioni and pay the five euro parking fee. Tip here is to ignore the dozens of men waving their arms like windmills and instead keep going right to the end. It is still only five euro and you only have a 100 yard walk to the quay. Visiting Venice needs no additional lyrical from me. Simply one of the most amazing places on earth.

Locally there are several good sized supermarkets within a couple of miles, whether you turn left towards Treporti or right towards Cavallino.

Thoroughly recommended and will be using again when we next go to the Veneto area.

This site is located on the litorale del Cavallino peninsular near Venice. We stayed there for a week in the peak season & loved it. The site is right on the beach & is part of a chain with other sites nearby. It was busy & the pitches were tightly packed in but space was adequate. The reception staff speak English & were very helpful. There is a 'quiet time' in the afternoon when the gate is locked to vehicles. New arrivals during this time must park up & wait for the gate to open. Toilets were good & cleaned regularly, but due to the beach location were often messy with sand. Bring a plug for the wash basins & your own toilet roll.

One unexpected feature was the religious retreat next door. We pitched right across the wall from it & were woken up by the sound of the Sisters singing each morning at 7.00am. Quite a pleasant way to wake up really.

The beach is fabulous with miles of fine sand. There are pedallos to hire & watersports nearby. There are lifeguards on duty who keep a close watch & toot whistles at anyone misbehaving. There are a few nice restaurants including a beautiful seafood place nearby on the beach (beware of mosquitoes in the evening). There is a nice pool & small paddling pool, a restaurant/bar & a good shop with fresh bread, a good selection of cured/cooked meats etc. Campers may also use the facilities at the nearby Union Lido on showing their passes which has a much larger range of shops & restaurants & two massive pools with water chutes.

A Pirate ship calls at the beach several times a week sailing to Lido Jesolo up the coast. There are party games all of which involve getting soaked, culminating in a naval battle with another ship coming from Lido. Great fun - but don't try to be a wallflower or the Captain will pick on you. Great fun for the children. Be warned though, there is no jetty so you must wade out to the rope ladder on the side of the boat to get on board.

Cavalino is a fairly unremarkable town set aside a very busy road. Don't be fooled by the cycle path outside the site, it stops before the main town & cycling in Italy on the road is not for the faint hearted. There are a few bars & cafes as well as supermarkets as well as a fun fair & a weekly market selling the usual imported tourist junk, but also some lovely fresh produce.

Our main reason for coming was to visit Venice. The bus stops at the campsite gate & the reception sells tickets. This takes you to Punta Sabbioni where it connects with the ferry direct to St. Marks Square. The services run until late in the evening so you can have a full day in Venice. You can park at Punta Sabbioni too, but the bus is much easier. Keep hold of your ticket as the bus inspectors carry handcuffs & we saw one middle aged lady bundled off a late night service back to camp! Take your camp site pass too as the whole place is shut at night with vigilant security guards on the gate.

There was evening entertainment provided by the animation staff some nights & children's activities during the day. The pitches are very sandy set in a conifer woodland with tree sap & pine needles all over & there is a constant battle to keep on top of this by the ground staff. If your cars shiny paint is precious, bring a dust sheet like the locals do. You are on a beach so I guess you'll have to live with that!

An excellent site with great facilities for a family holiday. I can certainly recommend it.
