This is a great site for caravans but not for tents. We arrived after a very heavy storm and we thought it was closed because it looked deserted, closed and run down.
The area for tents is very small and just above the reception building. It clearly hadn't been mowed for some time and the site was so boggy that our car got stuck.
The site could be beautiful if it was looked after. Much of it looked like a building site and there are abandoned caravans here, there and everywhere. The terraces give a spectacular view of Eppstein and the location is pretty as it's semi wilderness. However, little has been done to make much of such the idyllic setting.
There are two toilets blocks. One is located by the reception and is horrible. The toilets weren't clean, the hut was run down dark and dank. The sink and shower were clean but it was oppressive.
The other shower block was much nicer. Very, very clean and more modern (with a Dyson air dryer) but only had one shower. Fortunately the campsite was dead so no queues but had it been. The only other downside was the outdoor sinks which I thought was only found on these shores. The ones by the shower block were clean but the one by the tents pitches were foul.
The kids' play areas were run down, old and unsafe.
Overall, if you are a caravan owner go for it. If not keep away but visit the area as it's lovely.

We used this site as a stop off on the way back from Switzerland & spent two nights here. The site is set on a steep terrace & the access roads to some pitches may be a challenge to large units, but there was plenty of space with better access when we were there.
The reception sells a selection of basics including fresh bread & English is spoken. Credit cards are accepted, but the machine was one of the old ones with the sliding section that 'prints' your card onto a paper slip. The bill took months to reach the UK.
The area around the site is very pretty fruit farming country & local Cider was widely available (& lovely!) The site itself has apple & pear trees planted everywhere & we collected bagfulls of apples that would otherwise have been left to rot. We pitched near the top of the hill & enjoyed views over the town of Eppstien.
There are waymarked paths & cycle paths all over & a free map in the welcome pack was very useful. We walked up the hill from our pitch & followed the path to Eppstien, which is very pretty with an interesting castle - fairytale stuff & entry was really cheap. There is a good ALDI supermarket a couple of KM up the road (turn right out of the site)
The toilet facilities were the only mild downside. They were functional with plenty of hot water, but quite old & the buildings were a little agricultural in appearance. We accepted this as the cost of the pitch was really cheap.
There is a children's play area, but some of the equipment looked a little dilapidated. However, the location right on the edge of some woodland made up for this, with hours spent making trails & dens, great. We would certainly use it as a stop off again.
