My wife and I spent a weekend at Penhale in the camper, and my son, daughter in law and three year old grandson in their new tent. We have stayed here several times before and it is a gem of a site with a spectacular view looking towards Rame Head. Peaceful with easy access to the Coast Path and nearby Seaton beach. Ged the owner is a laid back, friendly face who has been working hard at improving the facilities on site. A new toilet block is opening in the next week or so which will be great. The existing facilities are a bit tired now but kept clean and tidy and for the size of the site are more than adequate. Free Wi-Fi available if needed. Stanley, our grandson loved the safe open field to run around, visiting the geese and chickens and was even more impressed with a tour of Ged's workshop which houses his classic motorbike restoration business. This is how camping should be - no frills in a superb location.

Lovely quiet site. Sea view from top of camp site. Toilet facilities adequate but seems new block is being put up. No hose pipe on elsan point which made it difficult to flush properly. Two water points. Nice dog walk in adjoining field. Quite a long walk down to local beach. Good central point for visiting Looe Etc. Grass kept short, attractive site. Suited us as quiet when we visited. Good shops at Liskard about 7 miles away. Good chippy Cod Shack nearby, lovely chips and fish. Chickens next to field which were amusing to watch. Very narrow lanes for about four miles to site some with very few passing places, would not have liked to take a big van or big motor home down there. We set off early on day of return to avoid meeting anything. Lovely piece of Cornwall to visit.

Gently sloping site with excellent sea views. The site is dog-friendly. Very quiet despite other local sites being quite busy(mid-season but recent spell of good weather). Very little road noise. 16 pitches, some with electric hook-up positioned around a field that lacked features or seclusion. Coastal footpath and other walks very close by. We didn't get the warmest of welcomes and I agree with a previous reviewer, that the facilities, although adequate in my case because my husband and I were the only campers, would be hard pushed to cope if there were more campers. There were 2 showers housed in a temporary and aged portacabin. One of those shower units housed the only toilet as the other was locked. The water heater over the sink was not man enough to provide water for a decent wash. The dish wash area was untidy and the sink grubby. Again, the water heater was insufficient. The reception area was locked. At £15 per night (without hook up) for a unit for mid-season, this was considerably more expensive than a Camping and Caravan club site that we stayed in last week that provided outstanding facilities with landscaped gardens.

Stayed here recently in the worst possible weather but still a very quiet site.
Two criticisms would be a) the lack of local information readily available and b) the toilet/shower numbers might be inadequate for a full site ie 2 showers and 2 loos is pushing it with 20 pitches !
I thought at £20 a tad expensive considering the amenities on site.
On the bright side Seaton is a real bucket and spade beach with a nice little Pub which serves a good pint and reasonably priced meals.

Management response: Firstly, there is a brand new reception room which is open all the time. In it there are leaflets for every outing possible, also bus timetables, maps of the area (hand marked with pubs and eateries), taxi numbers, other eatery information, caravan engineer details, visitors comment book and my number is displayed at all times for any queries or emergencies. Additionally, the reception desk opening times is displayed in the window and the times this year were mainly 10am and 5pm, usually being manned for 1 - 2 hours each time.
The second point was that the writer felt that 2 showers and 2 toilets weren't adequate for 20 pitches. In fact there are 16 pitches maximum. The inspectors who kindly visit, tell me that the amount of showers and toilets are more than adequate.
Thirdly, the price of £20/night for a pitch with electric hook up is very competitive especially when measured against our neighbouring sites. There is only one other site in the vicinity with a similar outstanding sea view. |

This was our first stop on a 6-week tour of the UK. Fabulous position, stunning view and friendly welcome. Approach road typically narrow with high hedges so needs care. Plenty of leaflets etc. Giving local information. Owner also gave helpful suggestions (such as Inn on the Shore, Downderry, a great walk along the beach).
Facilities limited (in number) but excellent from point of view of cleanliness and comfort, despite being in temporary portable cabins - I understand planning permission has been granted to build. We have 2 dogs and this was no problem, great walks on the doorstep.
