This was our second visit to Strumpshaw Steam Museum Campsite. The museum wasn't open this time but is well worth a visit if is.
We chose this site largely because it is walking distance from Strumpshaw Fen RSPB reserve which has an easily accessible range of habitats.
The site itself is in a lovely peaceful setting with easy access. It's bookable by phone or e mail and is reasonably priced.
Although it's pleasant to meet the owners/ wardens of sites the fact that there is no precise time frame to work to is an asset.
The pitches are moderately level, it is necessary to be mindful of low branches on the oak tree if you drive past it. There are no showers and the toilet block is simple but adequate.
There's chemical disposal point and water tap so all you need. Only a few miles away is an excellent camping and leisure outlet on A47.

Strumpshaw: a hidden gem, quiet, peaceful.
The museum was well worth a visit too.
The site has EHU and toilets 24 hours.
Great cycling and walking nearby.

I really enjoyed this CS. It is what it says on the tin.
It has easy access, but is secluded in the parkland of Strumshaw Hall, with its beautiful big trees and horse paddocks.
The ground is flat and reasonably firm (for December) with well-spaced pitches and electric hook ups.
It does have toilets, which although are in keeping with the era of the steam museums exhibits, are spotlessly clean and perfectly acceptable.
Plain, simple, lovely. Would certainly recommend, and will certainly return when the museum is open next season.

Strumpshaw Steam Museum is situated in the large and attractive private parkland of the old Hall with nice signposted woodland walks. Steam days and other relatively small scale events are held throughout the year. (See their website) Nearby are RSPB Strumpshaw Fen and Brundall Station for a trip into Norwich.
The pitching area is directly outside the main pedestrian entrance to the museum itself. So from the viewpoint of a camper/caravanner, this could be a disturbance. If there is an event on, you will literally find yourself in the middle of it. From the viewpoint of visiting specifically for an event, being right in the middle of right of things has got to be a good time.
To sum up: Pick your dates. From the viewpoint of a general camping/caravanning trip; very pleasant when it is quiet and there is no event on. From the viewpoint of visiting for a specific event camping/caravanning right in the middle of things has got to be a good time.
