The previous reviews are old. Visited this site, hoping for basic but clean site. It's directly next to a main road, but lovely setting - HOWEVER:
Be warned, it's disgusting. Toilet disposal/cleaning (which is basically a hole in the ground) directly next to the only drinking water tap.
Baby changing facility is a rusty old ironing board.
No hot water. Washing up, bathroom sink, shower and toilet all in same space. No electric lights in that area.
I kid you not. I've pictures but cannot share here.
Avoid at all costs

It's a small site but perfectly catered for our needs. We stayed for 1 night and it cost £4 per person, per night to pitch a standard tent. We didn't have an electric hook up but it is available (although I don't know the costs for this).
The owners were really helpful and friendly. We pitched next to a fire pit and enjoyed a camp fire.
The site is only separated from the road by a bush but we found at night we weren't disturbed. It was a bit noisier during the day though.
On site facilities were basic and clean and there was a good supply of hot water.
The location was great and we were only a few minutes away from public footpaths, which provided easy to navigate walks.
We also visited the pub next door and would highly recommend. The food was lovely and the staff friendly.
It may be that we just didn't see the closest one but the only thing we missed in the immediate area was a shop, the one we went to was a good 30 minute walk away, in Whaley Bridge.
All in all, it's definitely somewhere we'd be happy to visit again.

We stayed here on a beautiful hot weekend, having decided to go at the last minute.
Goyt Valley is a small narrow site with space for about 10 tents. It is clean and well maintained and there is one toilet, a shower and a wash-up for both men and women.
The owner was friendly and the site was very reasonable, we paid £16 per night for a family of 4. You can have a fire, as long as you get one of the two pitches next to a fire pit.
There aren't any great views from the site as it's in the valley.
We didn't visit the pub next door because all the outdoor tables were on the edge of the busy main road.
There is only a hedge between the campsite and the main road and it was very noisy for a lot of the day and evening. This, and the chickens are what would dissuade me from returning.
The chickens, probably 30 odd, were running free, so there was a lot of chicken poo about. They were also not shy about walking into our tent and scavenging for food. One chicken pinched a half cooked chicken breast from our barbeque and another family lost some bacon to another one!
When the traffic finally calmed down and the chickens had gone to bed, the aeroplanes started, one after the other, flying to and from Manchester! Had there been no chickens and no main road I would definitely return.

Stayed for 2 nights over May Bank Holiday. Only booked two days in advance and wasn't sure what to expect from reading the only 2 reviews on the site.
We were very pleasantly surprised! A lovely little site with a very friendly and helpful owner. Free range hens provided lovely eggs for breakfast.
Plentiful supply of hot water in the free shower.
The Shady Oak pub adjacent to the site was friendly and welcoming.
Lots of walks direct from the campsite, especially in the Goyt Valley.
There was some noise from the adjacent road during the day, but did not bother us at night.
Will certainly return to this site in the near future.

Just got home from a lovely hot weekend in Derbyshire. What a great site Goyt Valley is. Dont often find sites that allow fires any more. Chris the owner was excellent and just left us too it. There are hens running around free on the site which produce the best tasting eggs at only £1 for a box of 6. A large tesco and morrisons 5 minutes drive away. The pub (the shady oak)next door was a nice treat and often busy. Will be going again definitely.

As there were no reviews or pictures of this site, we were a bit apprehensive. Having left the booking of Jubilee weekend until the last minute, we had very few options.
First impressions were good, the site itself is lovely, Chris, the owner is very welcoming and at £4pppn, it's really cheap.
I have only 2 complaints and nothing could really be done about either.
When we arrived, we were immediately accosted by the group of caravanners at the top of the field who tried to dictate where we could and couldn't pitch. (a later conversation with the owner told me that this group was there most weekends and have a tendency to 'take over'). This group were also very loud and sweary on the first night, but I suppose all groups are like that and we didn't hear much from them after the first night.
The second issue is about road noise as there is only a bush between the EHU pitches and the road but you soon get used to it.
The toilets are limited (1 cubicle each), but very clean and with a lovely, warm shower.
The pub next door is handy and the surrounding area is breathtaking. All in all, if I knew that the group weren't there, I would probably go back if only for the eggs from Chris's chickens which are some of the nicest I have ever tasted.
