This was our second visit to this pleasant and secluded site in this lovely valley of Rosedale. We found it a brilliant base for walking straight from the site. Very little road traffic. Is also great for cycling and wildlife. We found it easy to get to the site from Rosedale and to get onto the site which is very well kept. The owners and their family are very friendly and helpful. Walking to Blakey Ridge on the public footpath is easy but quite steep. Plenty of places to rest and admire the magnificent views. The old railway line which was used for the iron mines above the caravan park runs the whole circumference of the valley and makes a fabulous walk with cut off points to make it as long or short as you want. One of the most beautiful areas in Yorkshire. Site has wonderful views. A real gem and will be going back many times.
This was our fist venture onto a CS/CL site and we were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was.
The weather on the way there was very foggy so it wasn't a pleasant drive over the moor roads, rather scary really.
There is a very tight right hand turn that you cannot do in one go. We had to go round the corner and reverse into the drive opposite and then turn down the road. The road itself leading to the campsite is a single track but was ok.
The campsite itself has a steep road leading down onto the field itself but once on there its flat. The views are stunning.
We also went with another family who rented out the static that is on site and this made the perfect base for the weekend.
We didn't find it particularly child friendly because of the steep bank but for older kids this wouldn't be a problem.
We had a walk over to the old kilns that you can see from the site which was pleasant and quite easy.
We went into the village of Rosedale for a bar meal and the pub was quite busy as there is another large site over the road. Nice pint but food could have been better and bit overpriced.
The campsite itself is lovely and would make a great base for anyone who enjoys walking.
The owners were nice, friendly and helpful.
Would definitely go back and make this the base for our next walking weekend and would definitely recommend it for a quiet, relaxing weekend.
