What an amazing spot, the most idyllic views of the glorious North Yorkshire countryside.
One of the warmest loveliest welcomes from Tim and his family as we arrived. They were in the middle of moving some sheep but stopped to allow us to drive across the farmyard to access the campsite.
The campsite has all the necessary bits and bobs for self contained units, a good number of water taps.
Good level hardstanding pitches. Some might perceive the site as untidy and messy but this is a working farm, and that area is behind where you pitch, you are drawn to look at the view in front of you.
Sadly we only there for one night to chill so didn’t explore area or walks but seems lots of potential.
The pub at North Grimston sadly now closed. £20 a night - cannot fault.

Found by chance while looking for places to camp online while walking the Wolds Way.
Only stopped one night.
Great, clean toilet shower block.
Washer and dryer if needed.
Small shop with easily enough choice to restock our food supplies for a couple of days camping after we left.
Excellent staff and owner. Couldn't have been more helpful. When looking for other places to stop on the route.
Definitely recommend as a first/last night stop from Filey if doing the Wolds way.

What makes this site worth a stay are the absolutely stunning views over towards the Howardian Hills (and North York Moors in the distance) one way, or rolling hills of the wolds the other, come and stay here!
The site is at the top of Grimston Hill so the views are second to none. It is a working farm so there are barns behind the pitches with old bits of farm equipment - you won’t be looking at the barns however you’ll be looking at the beautiful views the other way!
We experienced no noise whatsoever from the farm during our stay except the odd cow mooing and the occasional car in the distance.
If you like manicured 5* campsites this is not the site for you, however if you are satisfied with a basic but perfectly adequate site with hard standing pitches, EHU, water to hand by the pitch, waste points not on the pitch itself but close by, please give this site a go. We were in a caravan with our own bathroom so we cannot comment on camping facilities as we didn’t need them.
There were no facilities for small children so the site is probably more suited to families with older children or couples. The site was £18pn when we stayed for the three of us in peak season so very reasonably priced.
What the site does offer is easy access to some wonderful walks (Wolds/Centenary Way pass through the land nearby). There is a nice pub The Middleton Arms in the village of North Grimston which does a lovely Sunday Lunch and plenty of places within a short drive to visit - Sledmere House, Scampston Hall and castle Howard, Wharram Percy medieval village.
We only stayed over a weekend but would have loved to stay longer (you can stay later on the day of departure if you want so no packing up and off by 10am!). Now we’ve found the site we will definitely stay here again.

My boyfriend and I stayed here in June and it was great! Hilltop is a quiet site with a river just a few minutes walk away and walking routes in every direction- would definitely recommend; cheap, cheerful and picturesque!

Stayed one night with friends whilst doing the Yorkshire Wolds Way. Although we originally booked 2 tents, when we turned up with 3 x 1 man they were very accommodating and friendly. Let us walk across their fields to the nearest pub instead of the main road.
Lovely camping area among apple and plum trees.
Facilities are quite basic but immaculate, with only toilet, cold water and a separate wash basin but perfect for walkers.
Only slight drawback was the A road nearby but after a long day sleep was very forthcoming. Recommended.

Leeds

We originally intended staying a few days here but in the end settled for one. The main reason it it really cut off in the wilds. Lovely views, usual elsan disposal, water.
The big let down the 5 van site is to near barns and due to a couple of vans being left there seasonal there is only room for 1 van on the grass. Found it claustrophobic. Shall not revisit.

Management response: Many thanks for the review, we would like to address some of your comments.
The nearest town is about 10 miles from us but I would like to point out that you do not even have to use country roads etc to get to us. We are next to a B road and you turn into our yard from there.
I found that the comment re 'Claustrophobic' very strange as the caravan site is on an open spot and you can see miles and miles from us, right through to Pickering, which he himself says 'lovely views'. |

This is a splendid place to stay if you are into walking.
Highly recommended is a 14 mile circular walk using the Wolds and Centenary ways to Thixendale, a remote village with lots of interpretation boards, and the excellent little pub, the Cross Keys, for a pint or two and decent bar food. Don't miss Wharram Percy village on the way round.
The site is pretty basic but very peaceful, and if you do the above walk you won't be there for much of the day (Access to the trail is via a gate at the rear of the CS, or just walk east along the road. )
We didn't rate the Middleton Arms down the road, which we felt was rather run down, and with unexceptional food, but for the record they do Tetleys bitter plus a local real ale (which isn't obvious - ask for it).

Hill Top farm is a small basic site on a working farm. There are no toilets or showers but all pitches do have EHU, if required. The main area of the site is gravel and is level but there are also a couple of pitches on grass. Dogs are allowed by arrangement and must be kept on a lead on site.
The views from the site are fantastic and I’d be happy to return to the site for this reason alone. The Wolds Way and Centenary Way walks cross over the farm so there are some fantastic walks straight from the site. There is also the old railway line between Malton and Driffield that passes through North Grimston which is also suitable for walking.
The Middleton Arms in village serves food; unfortunately we didn't get chance to visit this time but have been before and had a good meal. If you’re going for Sunday lunch, get there early as it does get busy. There is also a butcher in the village but there are no other shops so you may be better stocking up with supplies prior to arriving.
There is a bus stop in the village with routes towards either Driffied or Malton; the site owner (Tim) will have information on the timetables.
Hill Top farm is a great site if you want to escape for a quiet break and at a good price of £10 per night including EHU. We will definitely return to this site in the future.
