Don't be deceived by the entrance from a main road, or the long driveway past machinery and woodpiles, once you get through the 3rd gate (not all locked) it opens out into a long lush field with lots of space. You could camp right at the other end of the field and not hear a soul. All we could here were the birds and sheep with an occasional tractor. The field is well sheltered, though at the far end, where it is higher, you can see the countryside over the top of the buildings.
Handy for visiting Driffield and the coastal resorts such as Bridlington, Hornsea and Flamborough. If you do decide to treat yourselves to the fish n chips from the Wetwang chippy as recommended by Lurchermac, park up at the Sykes Memorial tower near Sledmere to eat them. The views from there are lovely. Could even see the Humber Bridge miles away. The church interior was, as promised by 9iron, indeed worth a look. The South door is unlocked from 9-5 for visitors.
Looking forward to visiting the Venture Inn CS and it's friendly owners again when I have time, for a nice peaceful relaxing weekend. They are still charging £5 a night for a unit and occupants so excellent value there, and they did open the toilets for us as we were all in tents. They don't do this for caravanners as they expect them to have their own facilities on board.

The previous reviewer has given a very good description of the site and I agree fully with the remarks. This is a lovely quiet site with no frills but if you want peace and quiet it's a hard site to beat.
The whole field slopes upwards slightly from the entrance but not steep enough to cause any sort of problem and the ground is easy on tent pegs. No need for rock pegs here. Part of the field to the right as you enter is sectioned off as an area for Camping & Caravan Club Members. If you pitch with your back to the hedge then you get the evening sunshine as you'll be facing almost due west.
Since the previous review was posted the pub has regrettably closed permanently and there isn't another one within easy walking distance. The little shop is still open though but don't rely too heavily on it for items like milk as they only get a delivery 3 days a week and sometimes sell out quickly.
Well worth a visit is the Norman Church in the village. The interior is amazing having been fully restored recently. I'll not spoil your surprise by telling you what to expect. Do visit it if you get a chance. It's only 5 minutes from the campsite.
I was advised by the very friendly and chatty owner that he is looking to put toilet and maybe washing facilities in later this year. Also, if you are camping in a tent for a few days then he will allow you to use the pub for a shower. Just ask him.
A lovely site at a lovely price. Just £5 a night and one I'll certainly be back to again.

The Venture Inn Is a great but basic site. There are no toilets/showers or EHU. There is a CDP (with a tap next to it) & a rubbish bin behind a wooden screen. The drinking water tap is in the camping field.
The pub is on a main road, however the site is behind the pub, through an orchard and then into large camping field beyond. There is no traffic noise whatsoever from the main road as the field is so far away from it.
The camping area is mainly flat and is enclosed by hedging. There is a large area for rallies. The field is large and children can play ball games well away from any pitches.
If you haven't prebooked & the pub isn't open, pop into shop next door as it is run by owners of pub/campsite.
The Venture Inn opens in the evenings but doesn't open on Sundays. Shop next to pub is a fantastic old fashioned type of shop. It's open all day and is basic but it does have some essentials and useful information on the local area. If you need larger supplies, Driffield is about 3 miles away.
On the edge of Garton, heading towards Driffield, there are some green lanes which go for miles and are great for walking. Dogs can exercise off lead as the lanes are enclosed by hedging and are very quiet.
You can walk towards Sledmere House or Wetwang if you take the green lane to the left at the top of the hill. There are some great walks all over the Wolds and slightly further afield is the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail.
There is a bus stop in village and buses go to Driffield or to other villages on the Wolds. There is a bus service at weekends in the summer months that goes to Malton. The campsite owners will have a timetable if needed.
There is a fantastic chippy at nearby Wetwang. There may be long queues but its well worth the wait.
The site is close to Sledmere House and is on the bus route from the village or can be reached on foot.
Brilliant area for walkers, cyclist & dogs and at a great price of £5 per night for 2 adults and a dog. We will definitely return to this site soon.
