Very pleasant stay despite quite busy road.
Beautifully maintained garden/site and great pub food at very reasonable prices. Fantastic specials board.
Little dogs at the back of the pub are a bit yappy but no real problem and road goes quiet overnight.
Fantastic walk down the canal with fabulous countryside views all around.
Very close to Pocklington, a short walk away from the pub with loads of shops and a couple of supermarkets and buses to York. Will go again!

As mentioned by a previous review this is a pretty little field behind the pub car park next to a very busy road. However it does quieten right down over night.
It is opposite the Pocklington canal, which is a lovely walk that is safe for your dog to wander along off the lead.
The pub no longer serves food in the evening and its hours of opening are quite limited so its best if you don't need to rely on it for toilets etc.
The owners have several terriers that are kept in a pen behind the pub building. They barked at every slight thing - cat, paper bag, change in the wind direction! They were a real nuisance and spoilt an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Stayed at this site for two nights. We chose it as we wanted to walk along the Pocklington Canal which runs for 9. 5 miles to the River Derwent at East Cottingwith. This site is ideally located opposite the canal head. The site is basic and next to a busy road but we knew this prior to booking.
The road does quieten down at night. The site is a tree lined field behind the pub, there is a fresh water tap and the CDP is a manhole in the car park. There are toilets in the pub but these are only available during opening hours.
The pub serves food, large portions at a good price and it seems quite popular for Sunday lunches. Dogs are allowed in the pub which is great.
There is an abundance of wildlife in the area. We heard an owl at night, in the trees on the site. There were swans/cygnets and a variety of ducks on the canal. The canal was so clear in places that fish could be easily seen.
Pocklington has a good selection of shops/pubs and a very good Italian restaurant. Burnby Hall Gardens is in Pocklington and is home to a National Collection of Hardy Water Lilies. If you fancy a busier day out, York, Beverley and Hull are all within a short driving distance.
Fishing is permitted on some areas of the canal and day tickets can be bought from the pub. There are fishing platforms at the canal head.
Boat trips are available on Sundays at the Melbourne arm. The trips are organised by a local charity (Pocklington Canal Society). They also run trips on Saturdays for groups but it has to be pre-booked. There is no set charge for these trips, they ask for a donation which goes towards running costs of the boat.
This site is in a great area, a fab price of £4 per night and we will return in the future.

We liked this site so much we went back 2 weeks later.
It is a pretty and well maintained site which provides you with water and grey water/elsan disposal.
The site is a good size and you can choose your spot amongst the trees. We were made to feel very welcome with our 2 dogs.
The Wellington Oak provides nice home made food at a very reasonable price and dogs are welcome in the pub. The owners are nice and friendly.
Just across the road is the canal head walk. The canal has a lot of reeds in it to encourage wild life and we saw swans and cygnets. There weren't any sheep in the fields so the dogs could run off leash along the path and we all had a good time.
We tend not to leave site except on foot so can't comment re shops etc in surrounding area but this site provided us with a very dog friendly relaxing break.
We will be back again soon.
£4 a night.
