The site is about 1 mile out of the village of Strathkinness and it's both isolated and very spartan, but it is also superb.
The view is fabulous over the Eden Valley and North Sea and there is plenty of room on the site to spread out between rigs. You call the owner (a pleasant young farmer called David) on his mobile on arrival and he calls by at some point for payment (£15 per day for our visit).
There is only 1 cold water tap and a strange conical drain for chemical waste. You have to take your rubbish down to the village where there are skips, but it's not really any hardship as you have to pass by wherever you're going to.
St Andrew's (5 miles) and Dundee (10 miles) are nearby and the village of Guardbridge (3 miles) is your nearest shop, with "Dan's Goods" selling virtually everything you need in the whole world. ! The Village Inn at Strathkinness crossroads is a lovely pub with real ale and a good (if a bit pricey) food menu.
The site is a bit hard to find initially as, confusingly, there are 3 "Newton by Nydie" campsites and other farms with the same name all nearby, but once you find it it's well worth the visit.

Love it here! Quiet and secluded. Great views.
Convenient for lots of local sights and very close to some great amenities.
Handy for visitors to North East Fife, but not many facilities on site.

Lovely views to the north and over the coast.
The site is also very quiet and basic, just a spacious field, with fresh water tap and disposal point.
There is a nice pub, the Tavern, 10 minutes walk away. St Andrews is maybe 40 mins walk, or there is a regular bus service in the village that runs between St Andrews and Dundee.

We love going to Newton of Nydie and it is our site of choice at St Andrews. It is a wonderful, quiet and relaxing site with great views of the Eden Estuary.
It’s close to the Tavern at Strathkinness where we had a fabulous meal last night.
There are loads of things to see and do in the area too and we just love St Andrews.
Linda is always very friendly and helpful.

We like quiet and simple sites, and this fits the bill perfectly. There is EHU and fresh water, although on opposite sides of the field. There is also a CDP but this is a simple 'hole in the ground' for the tank, which unfortunately was full when we visited. This is important when there are no toilet facilities so caused a problem. To be fair we were offered money off but would rather have had sanitation facilities.
The field is not flat so you will need some sort of levelling system.
The views are hard to beat, you're high up on the side of a valley looking across Leuchars. Access is via a short (100yards) hard, dirt track.
Phone signal is excellent, and got 3G (with O2).
5 minute walk to local pub that serves good food and drink.
Would definitely go back, but check the CDP is usable first

My wife and I have used this little site several times in different seasons and have loved it every time. The facilities are sparse: 2 water taps;a very basic chemical disposal point; 6 (or maybe 8) EHUs and that's it. But the field itself is vast with no delineated pitches so plenty of room between outfits. Our most recent visit was October 2012 when it was windy and wet but with some intermittent spells of sunshine. We were the only outfit on site for the 3 nights of our stay. It was peaceful, secluded and rich with birdlife. We love the place for its views over the Eden estuary toward the RAF base at Leuchars and its fabulous coastline which forms part of the formal Fife Coastal Path. Strathkinness has a warm and friendly pub in easy walking distance of the site. As a coeliac disease sufferer, it was great to find the pub could provide a choice of gluten-free foods. Just a few miles drive from the site is St. Andrews where you will find the centre of world golf, a world class university, a rich diversity of restaurants, a wonderful botanic garden not to mention Aldi and Morrisons supermarkets and a Tesco Metro! The charity shops have the finest range of second hand designer labels available anywhere. (according to Mrs Flymo)

As we were touring, we tried phoning various sites in the St. Andrews area and this was the only one which replied. The site is easy enough to find, but do bear in mind that where it says turn right by the Hungry Horse cafe in the C&CC book, the cafe is now called Fast & Fresh. By the time we reached St Andrews we realised we had gone wrong; there is a roundabout to come back on yourselves.
When you reach Strathkinness, turn right by the Tavern pub and right just before the first bungalow on the right. You will see a small site behind the bungalow, but keep going down to a house which is being rebuilt, just past here on the left is a sign rather grandly announcing 'Welcome to Newton of Nydie caravan site'. This is the rather long grassed area which is enormous, with rather strange ehu points.
We liked this site; we were the only occupants for 5 nights whilst the site up the road was always full. However, the grass is too long, the ehu and CWD are primitive, the tap is too far away and for £11 per night, it's too dear.
It has lovely views, is about 3 miles from St Andrews which is well worth a visit and about 4 miles from Cupar which has the recommended Scottish Deer Centre, not just deer, wild cats, birds of prey and many others. Also visit the small towns of Pittenweem, Anstruther and Crail in the 'East Neuk' of Fife.
