Colliery Farm is a nice peaceful site situated on the hilltop above Haswell with views over the surrounding countryside and within easy reach of the towns and cities of Co. Durham. The facilities are basic but clean but after all this is a C. S. Not a 5 star site and this is reflected in the the tariff. The owners are very helpful and friendly, in fact we only paid for our stay the morning we were leaving when we were also informed that if we had any problems leaving the site due to the wet weather we would be pulled off with the tractor. After we had pitched in the afternoon of arrival, I checked my mobile and found a message from the proprietors advising me not to travel to the site as it was under water. However, by this time the site had drained and we had encountered no problems siting our van.
I would have no hesitation in returning to the site if in the area in the future.

We telephoned ahead to check that we would be able to stay for just the one night, it was my first cycling tour with my son and we wanted to make it just the two days and one night, the owners were very accommodating and prices were excellent.
This was the perfect site for us, the gazebo in the centre of the site was great for us as it gave us extra space outside our tent and offered shelter for our cooking.
We would definitely return for future similar ventures.

We camped here with Durham mini club, the site is a working farm complete with chicken and cockerels, the field has lovely views, although this somewhat obscured by wind turbines, the camping field is lovely and part of it overlooks the chicken pen, in the middle of the field there is a wooden gazebo with a place to BBQ if the weather is not so great, there is electric hook up available on request, the toilet block is a farm out-building which is dated it has 2 toilets and a further separate toilet with a shower and sink, no heating, the shower needs a token which are obtained at the gate 50p for 8 mins, on the outer of the toilet block there is a sink to wash-up in, but no hot water or overhead cover, the owners are friendly and helpful. There are few shops approx 1. 5 miles away. It is a chill out relaxing place to stay.

Very good site. Staff friendly and supportive.
Ground was wet but we were able to drive on without problem. However, we were told that if site gets even wetter then the farmer would tow us on and off.
Only a few vans there as site is lovely and quiet. Good views to three side with fourth overlooking the farm. Good price and amenities were also good.
Recommended for a three or four day break as in easy reach of Durham and the coast. Have an ice cream at Lickety Split on Seaham front.

A very pleasant CS in an unlikely area (the old mining region of Durham). The owner is very friendly and helpful. It has good views, being on top of a hill (somewhat marred by the wind turbines) but obviously can be windy. It's easy enough to find until you get to Haswell, best to ask here if you don't have satnav. It's about 8 miles from Durham (well worth visiting) and about 10 from Hartlepool which has an excellent maritime centre. You can also visit the Metro Centre off the A1 at Gateshead, but not on a wet Saturday as we did.
Haswell village has a couple of small shops, 2 pubs and a chip shop. The nearest garage is on the A182 heading towards Hetton le Hole. Free range eggs are on sale at the farm.
Cost for the site was £12 per night, which we thought fair enough as it has loos and showers (2 of each) which looked fine. The washing up area could do with some cover.
