What a shame. This lovely little site has been ruined by council cutbacks masquerading as environmental policy.
They have stopped cutting the grass in the camping field (but it is still immaculately cut everywhere else) This makes it completely unusable. When I visited the grass was about two ft tall. This means your clothes get wet, the whole field is crawling with insects.

Very nice site. Flat, cheap, clean toilets. Dog friendly, dog water bowl provided. It is true you can hear the road - but there is very little traffic and it is in a very convenient location. There are lovely walks from the site across the meadows around the Wye, about 15 minutes to the Abbey, past lots of nice pub and places to eat. All dog friendly. There is no shower but it is VERY cheap and nice. Camping is not by the parking, but is only a minute away. You are next to a converted train containing an exhibition on the history of the railway in Wye Valley and a cafe that does a grand fry up. You can look over the river to England.

We stayed for one night at The Old Station campsite. It was a small triangular field on slightly sloping ground but we did manage to find a flat-ish pitch.
There were no showers at the site but the toilet facilities were good and were regularly cleaned with plenty of toilet roll.
There is a cafe on the site which serves breakfast and light meals. The seating area outside the cafe had beautiful views up the valley but unfortunately you can't see this view from the camping field.
There is no access by car to the field therefore you have to carry your equipment up a sloping path from the carpark.
Lovely area and very accessible to Tintern Abbey. Offa's Dyke is an excellent nearby walk which leads up to the Devil's Pulpit where you can see spectacular views of the abbey. Chepstow is a short drive away with a Tesco and decent restaurants.
The Old Station is good value for money and ideal for short stays. Due to the small size of the camping field, it is essential that you book in advance.
