We chose this campsite because it was well situated to visit the sites of La Rochelle and the islands such as Isle de Re. The owners (French) were very welcoming and helpful, for example handing out guides, and they had held a big pitch with hook up electricity for us. The trees are quite young on the campsite, so there was not much privacy or shade, but the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly anyway. The campsite was quiet.
There were a mix of British, Dutch and French on the campsite and many families. Our pitch was used by Dutch children to cut through to the loos which was annoying as we had a dog who was disturbed each time.
The orchard area was where people could pitch small tents randomly (no electric hookups) and there were many serious cyclists staying just one night or for a few days.
There were a total of 4 toilets (without basins) which meant that some people needed to queue at busy times. There were basins (2?) available but most people did their teeth in the washing up sinks. Toilet paper was provided but could get stuck up the container so you couldn't access it at times. Some of the water was not potable so you had to make sure you filled up water from the good water taps. There were undercover washing up facilities and one sink for washing clothes. I think there were a total of 4 showers so this also developed queues.
There was a good recycling system in place. No play equipment for children but plenty of space to create their own games.
The villages around were quite picturesque and the access to La Rochelle etc was fast and easy. Perhaps a few more toilets and showers would be of benefit as it becomes more popular.

We (me and my 10 year old son) have just returned from a week at this campsite and we can't wait to go back next year - campsite and location fantastic.
Owners were friendly and very helpful with plenty of leaflets and maps provided at the start of our stay. The site itself was well looked after and in an old apple orchard so plenty of trees for shade. The weather was glorious - always helps. Pitch was very spacious and we had electric which worked no problem. The toilets/showers/washing up areas were all kept clean. Showers were lovely but opposite the shower in each of the cubicles was a sink which got drenched when showers were used. Not really a problem but just slightly unusual set up.
The shop on site opened for a few hours in the morning and again for a few hours in the evening which was ideal. Enough time to place the order for pain au chocolat, etc for the morning :-). Also sold a good selection of ice creams, as well as some beverages and local produce.
The campsite was lovely and peaceful with a lovely area set aside for the free Wifi which came in useful for checking things to do, etc. Although there were no specific children's activities, my son had a great time making friends with other children from different countries and cycling round on his bike.
Location of the site was perfect. We do a lot of cycling and found it so easy to find places to go. We went out onto the Ile de Re twice - toll bridge (16 Euro) or park by the toll booths on the mainland for free and walk/cycle across the 3km bridge. Seperate path to road. Island definitely worth a visit - beautiful and loads of off road cycle routes. La Rochelle is fantastic. We only visited the three towers but there was much more to see and do. We also visited Ile d'Oleron, another great island for cycling, no toll for bridge, about an hour drive to the south. Also Rochefort (beautiful relaxed town with old dockyard) and a boat ride around Fort Boyard.
Although we didn't squeeze it in, there was also a cycle route very close to the campsite which again was an off road cycle path running parallel to a canal. Apparently a 40 minute cycle into La Rochelle. A trip to do on our next holiday.
So much more to see and do and will definitely be revisiting this site. 10 out of 10.

My family (2 adults and 3 under 10's) have just come back from 12 nights here, where we had a wonderful time. The owners were really helpful and a pleasure to deal with, the site, is exactly as described - clean, well tended, quiet (don't let the kennels put you off) and very well located for La Rochelle and the area as a whole.
If you're into on-site entertainment and pools this is not the place for you but, if you're after the more traditional camping experience you are not going to be disappointed.
I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Owners - friendly & helpful, they even gave me an onion from their own kitchen in an 'emergency'
Facilities - clean and rarely any need to queue (ref the 2012 review, the toilets have seats now too!)
Noise - always quiet at night, only comment is that the nearby dog kennel is noisy in the morning at around 8. 30
On site shop - well stocked with basic food, some local specialities, ice cream, cold beer and morning croissant
Local shops - well served by Dompierre Sur Mer, 5 min drive
Local activities - loads and loads to do. Cycling is a local speciality. La Rochelle is beautiful. Beaches at Chatellion and Fouras are lovely. Lle de Re and Ile de Aix also very good. Access to all of these are straightforward and the local roads are good quality and not busy.
The only area for improvement from my perspective would be the installation of some playground facilities for the under 10's but, to be fair, after the kids found the fruit trees, free roaming chicken, lizards, monster caterpillars and bats, they didn't ask about the swings that often.

Because of the very good reviews we visited this Campsite on our way to southern France. The site was mostly used by tent campers, no large motorhomes.
In the gallery pictures the trees make an impression as beiing large; if you are there, the only big trees are on the edges of the campsite, the pitches are hardly separated. Nearly no shadow.
We found the owners businesslike friendly, but overall with no outstanding atmosphere. Maybe they don't like the idea of guests for only one night?
The dogs are extremely annoying in the morning, apart from that the site is quiet.
Showers were clean and spacious; there could have been more toilets.
Overall; the site is OK, but there are so many phantastic campsites in France, that we'd won't visit this one again and may look elsewhere.

This is a completely delightful campsite. On arrival the owner met us and gave us loads of information and leaflets on where to go in the area, we took up some of his suggestions and had a couple of brilliant days out at Ile d'Aix and a boat ride on the Marais. The site is lovely and very relaxed with plenty of space. The shower block is always maintained to a high standard. Sylvain, the owner is very attentive and accessible should you need him.
It is easily accessible to La Rochelle, a lovely town and well worth a visit. We would stay again if in the area.

We had a wonderful week as privileged guests of of the owners in the garden of their home, which is a garden and orchard, rather than a campsite. Our holiday would have been nothing without the assistance of the owner in finding us the places we visited, the wine we tasted and even phoning ahead to let the Viniers know we were coming. The owner sent us to the islands and the inlands and we had the most wonderful camping holiday.
We had our choice of pitches although they could hardly be called that as we were allowed to go where we wanted. The toilets and showers were spotless and we never had to wait for a shower or hot water to wash our dishes. Our tent was shaded by some of the trees which was wonderful as it was extremely warm weather and the owner always checked when we returned that we had enjoyed our trips out which was very thoughtful. For the owner, you are honoured guests camping in his garden, you can pick his fruit from the many trees as you wish and just a truly wonderful place to chill out.
It was easy to find, The owners's directions were simple and direct and the house and garden are set in a beautiful part of France, only a few minutes from La Rochelle and the coast as well as easy access to the main roads if you want to travel further south, as did we. The nearest village, only a few miles away has a supermarket, wonderful boulangerie and pattiserie so we never had to go far for food. Our electrics (when the owner worked out for us how to use them) worked beautifully and we were able to run our Smoothie maker to enjoy our fruit in the morning.
What more could we have asked. We could not fault either the location, Sylvain and Catherine's help nor the beautiful garden/orchard in which we were privileged guests.

I just wanted somewhere quiet for a couple of days to rest and read, before travelling on to meet my family. This site suited me very well and I enjoyed my stay there.
My schoolboy French is limited, so appreciated the owners speaking good English.
I can't comment on the village and what shops and bars were like as I didn't use any, but it was in easy reach of La Rochelle.
There were no set pitches, so I could select where I wanted to pitch, it wasn't crowded and there was a reasonable amount of shade.
Facilities were clean, but my only gripe was none of the toilets had seats!
