Just spent 3 great nights here. It's a very small friendly site. The actual pitching field so to speak is a car free area as you can't leave your vehicle with your tent which was fine with us. All the pitches are situated around the boundary and numbered clearly. There is a very small toilet block with 2 toilets( take your own toilet roll) and a small basin next door. No hot water at all. There are bins there for dry waste and a disposal point for chemical toilets. There is no lighting in the toilet block. The shower is at the rear if the cafe within Calbourne Mill itself and is a 5 minute walk from the field. You have free access to the Mill and it's attractions etc which is nice. You can get lovely food at the cafe too. This is a very basic site but the cost per night reflects this and nothing should come as a surprise as the website covers everything you need to know. The views across the Solent are stunning as are the sunsets. Apart from the Mill there's nothing to entertain the kids, playgrounds etc. The main town of Newport is 5 miles away and the local buses run relatively close to the site. This site is what it is, small, back to basic and good value. For campers nor glampers.

You enter the campsite in the less busy road behind the watermill which was confusing for a friend who was staying and had asked the bus driver for directions.
The staff we have met are very pleasant and once you have gone to the Mill kiosk and paid no one comes to bother you.
Very quiet site but cheap and not a lot of noise.
Pay for 4 £6 a night stay for 7 £24 was the deal when we went and it was free wandering around the watermill included.
A very nice tea room with free wifi is great for a cooked breakfast or the treat of a cream tea
We have returned a number of times since our first visit if only for a couple of nights.
There are two unisex toilets, and one basin for hand washing which although under cover has no door and has only cold water, you do need to remember the toilet roll and hand soap when spending a penny, around the side of this block is a chemi loo emptying point. I only noticed one water stand pipe but as this is a small site was not a problem.
The shower was a bit of a trek down through to the back of the Mill tea rooms.
Child friendly in the Mill but nothing for them in the camping area, Although no play area there is lots of room for running around e. T. C. As although there are two fields only one seems to be used for camping.
Lovely to go and able to wander around the orchard the plumb and apple trees were in abundance.
Will certainly return for a weekend break as it's close to home, very reasonable for a get away from it all break.

Well, what to say about this one? A bit of a mixed bag really.
Calbourne Mill (the tourist attraction) has been around for a loooooong time, but the campsite not so long. The site consists basically of two small fields where you can pitch where you like, it's out in the countryside but the main road between Newport and Freshwater is nearby for easy access (as 'main' as they get on the IOW!) Facilities are very basic with two single toilets, a sink (with no door) and a chemical disposal point at the end of the second field, plus there is a remote shower which is down (through some woods) in the main Calbourne Mill area.
The negatives -
Very basic facilities (but were newish and cleanish - although I didn't see them cleaned in a week).
Shower was a walk away.
No freezer block facility.
Main issue though for us - no hot water supply available anywhere.
The positives -
Price was very competitive.
Pitch where you like - we really like to choose our own spot.
Facilities that were there were basically okay and reasonably clean.
Smallish site.
The best bit - you basically have free reign of Calbourne Mill as part of the camping price (we wandered round and used the swings and boats EVERY evening in the glorious evening sun which was fabulous!)
Overall Calbourne Mill is a pleasant campsite with some big plus points but a few negatives too. The freezer block issue would be easily solved with the purchase of a freezer, but the lack of hot water on the field site is the main one which could be solved with an electricity supply run up into the field and an instant tap water heater fitted at the (already-there) sink.
Would I go back? All things considered, yes, probably. :)
