Just back from this sight, stayed 12 nights. Its lovely small site it was not very busy we arrived 27 June left 9 July. Mainly tents and campervans, very few caravans the ones we saw were small units, proably due to the beautiful but tight and windy drive through the Hermida Gorge. You have to go throughogh if you are comming from the north and Santander.

The facilities are excellent, toilets, showers washing up etc all clean, and the cleaner seemed to be around all day. Only one washing machine and dryer could be a problem in high season. Limited stock in shop essentials only, but good Lupa supermarket in Potes just 5 minuete drive away. Bar area looked ok, but cant comment on food as we did not use, looked at menu seemed basic everything with chips. One good thing though they will give you a big bag of ice cubes from the bar for 2 euros very usefull for your fridge/coolbox. Swimming pool small some beds and a little grassed area, we used it 4 times, it did the job of cooling us down. Would be pretty full/busy in high season I would imagine.

As for the area the Picos Europa is amazing some great walks and drives, the scenery is stunning truly breathtakingly beautiful. Fuente De just up the road is a must infact everything is a must. The only gripe I have is there is only one road around the Picos nothing through the middle, so getting around the area takes time. This is only a minor gripe, as said the scenery makes it worthwhile. We also visited the coast a couple of times Playa Olmbaye, very good sandy beach with lifeguards. We had great weather able to sit out at night all the time we were there. Camp quiet at night. We did notice that the southside of the moutains were always sunnier, around Potes, We have only one real criticism of the site, the plots are a little small and there are no defined plot boundaries, hedges etc, could be a problem when busy. All in all though we had a geat time and would have no hesitation in recommending this site and returning in the future

Situated a mile and a half from Potes on the road to Fuente De, this is a lovely site.

Sandwiched by the road (to Fuente De. Not too busy and with no commercial traffic) and the river Deva, it is a verdant island and peaceful haven.

The Restaurant and Bar (both indoors and out) sit next to the gurgling river and make a perfect place to end the day, or spend all day!. Prettily laid out with terraces and indoor area, and served by exceptionally friendly staff. Menus in english if required. The food is good without being michelin standard, and the prices fit.

The washroom area is, as usual on the continent, well maintained, the block is about fifteen years old; toilets have British style seats and paper.

About the only criticism of the site is the showers. Eventually you get used to the fact that water temperature is very finely tuned by putting the hot on full blast and then very minor tweaking of the cold tap to achieve your ideal. but, if anyone else enters an adjacent cubicle, or flushes a loo. Be ready to adjust fast!

The ladies area is very well equipped with mirrors, too. Double those that are in the gents. Must be a reason for that!

Pitches vary in size and location. Some without electricity, but most have shade and there are a huge variety of fruit trees. Indeed we were given free plums whilst in residence.

The swimming pool is more of a leisure pool. Don't expect to do training lengths!

There is a reasonable kids playing area, table tennis, some machines, swings, seesaws, slides etc and a good BBQ area if you don't have your own gear.

The on site shop stocks a reasonable selection of anything you might need in a panic, though, as usual, more expensive than the local supermarket (best one is Lupa on the road out of town towards Panes).

Most people come to this stunning area of Spain for the walking/natural sites visits. Don't miss:

Fuente De cable car and walking from the top station.

A 4x4 hire for the day (with driver) to drive you 'off piste' and drop/pick you up for the truly first class Cares Gorge Walk. Cost about 50 euros a head (pick up/return to campsite) 9 a. M. To 6 p. M.

Visit Covadonga lakes

Visit Barcena Mayor and Santillana del Mar (fantatsic medieval town/village)

Visit Tudes and the Bar del Ingles

Visit the Soplao caves. Truly amazing

Canoe on the Sella River

. And masses more. Potes is a lovely town. Lots to explore off the main road and some good restaurants. Try Hotel Restaurant Casa Cayo. Super food and service.

Don't miss the Picos Centre. As you come into the town from Panes. Looks like a factory from the outside. But inside!

Don't miss the two exhibitions on Beato. The illuminated manuscripts from versions of the Apocalypse. Extraordinary.

It's a wonderful place to spend a week or two. And I guarantee you'll be back to this part of Spain again!
