Well located campsite with mixture of pitches. Quite a few lodges which are popular with young families. Touring pitches are bigger than we expected having stayed previously on Ile d’Re were they are very tight. Pitches vary offering full sun, part sun or shade. We had plot 124 which had the benefit of 2 trees but also faced south giving sun bathing in late afternoon.

Site has a nice pool, shop and bakery where pre order is not necessary. Bar and restaurant is well supported by guests.

For some our plot may be too close to wash block as you can hear cleaners in early morning. Bus stop outside camp and cycle tracks nearby.

Nice hot showers but you will need your own loo paper.

Plenty of space here with large boules court and play equipment for the children. Free WiFi in 30 minute sessions otherwise €15 a week.

Chose this site for central location and cycling and it did not disappoint. Site is used by Dutch, British French campers etc and has a number of static caravans lodges and tents. The site was not crowded during our visit during the middle two weeks of July, the campsite staff gave us a excellent pitch away from areas frequented by children and seemed to be aware that couples might prefer this. Pitches were well grassed and a good size easily enough for caravan, awning and car, water could be a walk depending where you are, I`m not aware of any fully serviced pitches. Good pool facilities including slides are provided and sunbeds. A bar, restaurant are open all day during peak season and entertainment is provided during the day for children and evening entertainment of a good quality two/three evenings per week. Pizza`s were 14e which we thought a little on the high side, bread can be ordered for next day. Three modern toilet/shower blocks, the main central block was best, all are kept very clean, hottest water was to be found in main block, toilet paper is not provided! Supermarkets - new Eclerc, Lidl and Super you were a ten minute drive in St Peter d`Oleron, a small Co-op and Boulangerie can be found in St Georges a ten minute cycle. All points on the island can be cycled to from the site without becoming entangled in traffic, reception provided a cycle map on arrival, there are miles of cycle paths a variation of tarmac and hardcore tracks roads where traffic is light are also used. The island has many small white washed villages and plenty of cafe`s dotted around though I should think many would be shut out of high season. The bus services covering the whole island are FREE in the high season and the stop two minutes from the site, several buses cover the whole island and times are co-ordinated. A Ferry service runs to La Rochelle but only one in the morning returning about ten hours later, times dependent on tide - a long day out (roughly 1. 5 hours by car), its really a place you come to and stay.

My husband has been very keen to visit the Ile D'Oleron, so we did some research and found this site which had Eurocamp, French Freedom and a Dutch Company called Tentsetters.

We chose tent setters, got 7 nights on the site for under £200 in a first class canvas tent.

The site was really rather charming. Only around 170 pitches, no shop, bar area, small pool with slides, one swing and a slide and a boule area.

You could order your bread the night before which was nice, but we soon discovered the joys of being able to cycle along cycle paths to the nearby village to purchase du pain dans le matin!

Mix of French, Dutch, English. Mix of ready tents, statics and camping.

Wash blocks were first rate, cleaned regularly. Reception were lovely, the site is owned by Chadotel.

Fantastic location: cycle to beaches and villages.

The area is charming, lots of old fishing villages, great beaches and great cycle paths.

WOuld we go back, yes I think we would!
