Found through a mention on a forum looked them up on UKCampsite.Co.Uk visited their Web site. Our first trip to the Algarve. We looked in at Aberfira far to busy and like a sea side town for us. Drove on to the Chicken Run. Made the mistake of driving through the local village, there is a way round the edge, then on to the site.
The owners were away somewhere but a helpful long term resident had all the information I needed for staying there. Thanks Allen. He advised where to pitch because it had been raining and some parts where soft.
In short it is the longest time we have ever stayed in one place. A 15 minute walk to the village, has everything you need once you have found the shop or bar you are looking for. If there's one thing that this site might lack is some shade.

Pros, Not Many
Stayed on this site On our way along the Algarve to Spain. Well where to start!
Rural and rustic is an over statement, it was positively archaic, Poor and no Facilities, that you would want to use. A plastic shed, which doubles for a Toilet and shower, Toilet is a portapotty wh4ch was full. The overall site is very rough, Dirt track through the middle, which is rough and rutted. We had a 4 wheel drive and tent, so OK for us. There is no running water on site, it comes from a well, which is not potable, and electricity was ok.
Noise at Night
Horrendous, they have dog kennels and Chickens, whilst the chickens dont make noise, the Cockerels do. Dogs all around on neighbouring farms howling all night, and bitten to pieces by mosquitos.
The owners not there when we pitched, up, A guy who said he was living there. To be fair, he seemed very nice and showed us what there was.
We are used to much better camp-sites so after a couple of days of roughing it, we asked to rent a caravan they let out. Well seemed all right at first, but on deeper inspection, it was nearly as dirty as the toilet block, and we had Mice in it as well, you could smell them, and droppings were everywhere in the cupboards, That was the final straw. We left early, they did give us back the money we had not used, so that was o. K.
Met the owners and they seemed very nice. She was so nice infact that we did not complain, felt it wouldn't do any good, and it could not be changed. It really was that bad.

This is certainly not a 5 star campsite the name gives it away its rural and rustic. A very relaxed site worth a visit if you are looking for peace, quiet and more back to basics living.
The site is only 15 minutes walk from the village. Its set down a lane which is fairly quiet of passing traffic. There is hardstanding for 3 or 4 vehicles, and a large field for pitching too. There is ehu and the owners pump water each morning and evening. There isnt any toilet or shower facilities but there is a chem disposal. Wifi for 2. 50 per week, tv hook up to UK tv for 2. 50 per week, washing service for 4.
The pros the owners, just about the nicest, friendliest and most helpful campsite owners we have ever met. On arrival it was all about getting us pitched up and happy. They gave us a ton of fresh fruit some of which we have no idea what it was and a juicer. For a few euros they will taxi you to and from most nearby destinations. Trips to the village are free or you can walk up and do your shopping and they collect it later for you. The site is quiet and peaceful, plenty of bird spotting from your chair. There are several animals on site and its all set amongst fruit trees.
The cons well not sure they are cons to be fair. What you see is what you get I guess its very like a CL without toilet / showers but with electric. The hardstanding area is fairly small and the majority are sited on there, however the field area is very big with plenty of space so you can spread out.
Its very different to anything else we have come across in Portugal but worth trying it out. If its not your cup of tea move on but you may well find you enjoy the experience. The price is very fair in terms of facilities at 10 per night for 2 adults with ehu.
