Roads just keep on getting smaller after Kingsbridge, but well worth the effort to reach this quiet bit of paradise.
Stunning views from site, and great walks straight from the site.
Simple CL, with power, water and chemical disposal point. Helpful friendly owner.
Recommended.

This site is in a fantastic position overlooking the sea. A walk down the lane and then onto the coast path at Gara Rock Hotel gives access down to Gara Rock beach.
On a sunny day it cannot be bettered. You can either follow the coast path round or take a short cut down a bridle way to get to Mill Bay beach and the amazing Salcombe Estuary. You can arrange to leave a small boat on the beach at Mill Bay giving access to superb sailing or canoeing in the estuary.
Walk along the beach at low tide towards East Portlemouth and you can catch the ferry into Salcombe and then catch further ferries to South Sands or to Kingsbridge. But I’m afraid getting to the site is not for the faint hearted.
It is important to follow the directions in the Caravan Club book and not use Sat Nav. Even then there are about 6 miles of single track lanes winding between the high Devonshire hedges.
There are lots of passing places along most of the route, but take care! The site is a CL with the basic facilities of water, EHU and chemical emptying.
Tescos is a long way away in Kingsbridge so go well equipped.

We love this site and visit it regularly. On a recent visit we unfortunately hit a pot hole on the road quite close to the site luckily!
When greeted by the Caretaker he immediately contacted a local mechanic who came straight away to assess our damage which was a universal joint problem, he was called Steve Wonnacott of SMW Auto Services, took a severed part away to his workshop and managed to make everything roadworthy before we left, it was an Easter weekend and he couldn't have been more helpful.
We love to escape down here regularly because it is quite remote, however, this service was second to none and on a bank holiday too. Great guy, very professional.

We meet so many caravanners on this site who return year after year. It has tranquillity and lovely sea views set in a 'Coastal Heritage' area. The coast path, a 10 minute walk away, is breathtaking and in another 10 minutes you are on the amazing Gara Rock Beach, there are numerous beaches and coves in walking distance. The Gara Rock Restaurant set on the coastpath has exceptionally good food and welcomes walkers and dogs.
Salcombe is a 15minute walk and a 5 minute ferry boat ride away with many small shops and a bustling atmosphere, which is the perfect contrast to the peace and serenity on this side of the estuary.
There is an excellent pub in the nearby village of E. Prawle, about 2 miles away, also a shop & café.
The facilities are basic, but quite adequate, water, electricity and an emptying point for the loo.

We stayed at this site for 5 nights. It is in a lovely quiet location but be prepared for narrow roads to it. My advice is to ignore sat nav from Kingsbridge and follow their directions as even the main road from Kingsbridge is quite narrow so coming head on with a double decker bus when you have traffic behind you is not funny.
The site itself has water and waste and electricity. It is very basic but has lovely sea views and is only about a 10-15 minute walk to the coastal path.
There is a Morrisons and Tesco in Kingsbridge but I would advise stocking up before you get there to save the 10 mile journey back into Kingsbridge. The remoteness is tranquil however so ideal if you like quiet remote sites.
I would imagine when they finish the Gara Rock hotel conversion there will be more road traffic on already challenging lanes. The walk down to East Portlemouth is about a mile but remember it's uphill on your return.
From here you can get the pedestrian boat over to Salcombe. We had a lovely quiet stay but it has taught us to look closer to the map before booking remote CL's on narrow lanes.

This is a lovely site, quite long and thin but with lovely sea views. The site is within easy walking distance (About one mile) of East Portlemouth. Once there, a ferry can take you over to Salcombe. It is about a 15 minute walk to the coastal path.
We come from Cornwall and are used to narrow roads, but the roads to this site are verging on being treacherous! If you have a motorhome, I would suggest you arrive with food and wine as you will not want to drive more than you absolutely have to. We managed to get there and back without damaging our 7. 3M motorhome, but it was a near thing!
Negative points about the site are the water supply which is via push taps which makes filling with water a pain as you can not get a hose to fit and if you use a water container, you have to hold it with one hand whilst pressing the tap with the other.
The other point is the chemical toilet disposal point which is a cesspit – Opening the cesspit lid to empty the loo is an incredibly smelly process!
Whilst we loved the site and area, we will not be visiting again as we will probably not be as lucky with the narrow roads as we were this time!
