Quiet, flat mostly unshaded site. Spotless loos and showers. Could be stretched in high season. Office open morning and evening only when we visited.

20-25 min. Walk to town and station on minor road beyond the site, also a good bike route. Coop and Migros in town.

Lots to do in the area using trains, ski lifts and by car. We were there for eight nights and would happily return. We approached from Luzern via Brunig Pass, turning sharp left after the top of the pass. This road to Meiringen leads directly past the campsite.

We stayed for a week at this beautiful quiet site located in a valley on the edge of the beautiful town of Meiringen, surrounded by mountains and open fields.

Being in open meadow the pitches are all very spacious, flat and level, but rather open with no boundaries between pitches and without any trees, but on the positive side all get the benefit of sun all day long. There is also an electric hook-up and a tap on each pitch.

Access to the site is easy and well-signed from the main road, and the owners were pleasant and very efficient, if not always particularly warm ! The site accepts ACSI card for discounts within certain periods, but be aware that at the time of our visit the site would only accept cash, which we had not been made aware of.

The shower and toilet facilities are excellent, located in a central block just a short distance from each pitch and are very modern and well-designed, with background music playing ! Toilet paper was supplied, and hair dryers and basic toiletries were available in the ladies shower room. Throughout our stay showers and toilets were regularly cleaned and immaculate.

There is a small barbecue and bar area which seemed to open on certain nights only, offering snacks and drinks.

The site itself is located on the outskirts of the very pretty town of Meiringen, famous as the place where the Meringue was first made (plenty to try!), and for the nearby spectacular Reichenbach falls, reached by funicular and the site of Sherlock Holmes' death. Sherlock himself is well commemorated, with a museum and English church.

A three minute drive or twenty-five minute walk from the site will get you into town, where there is plenty to look at along with a selection of medium sized supermarkets, and nice restaurants and a bank or two.

If you like driving mountain passes, the Brunig, Grimsel, Susten passes lead in and out of the valley from Meiringen, and the site is located in the beautiful Bernese Oberland, with the must-see tourist spots such as Brienz (think mountains, lakes, and steamers), Grindelwald and Interlaken all within easy driving distance for days out. From nearby Lauterbrunnen we took the cable car trip up to the Schiltorn (2970m) and it's rotating restaurant, the legendary home of 007's arch enemy Blofeld, where the views on a good day are truly spectacular and the 007 coffee is well worth a go !

This is a really nice clean, quiet site offering great value in what can be an expensive area for campsites, and we would thoroughly recommend it.

We totally agree with the other reviews - this site is excellent. It was the first site in 3 where we didn't need levelling blocks and the views are stunning - a 360deg panorama of mountains. The owners are very friendly & speak English.

As previous reviewers have said, the toilet block is spotless, all equipped with paper and has music playing. The showers ditto, where there is a hairdrier plus cotton wool circles and toiletries if you want them.

There is no shade on site but the pitches are large and each one has water and electric hookup. We arrived during a very windy day when the fohn was blowing - I imagine this would be welcome in the height of summer, but for us it just made it hard to open the caravan door! It only lasted that day though.

With an ACSI card it is really good value and the free wifi is fast and reliable, but there is an additional charge for rubbish - you are given a bag and charged E4. 50 even if you don't use it.

Meiringen is a nice small town with a variety of eateries and nice shops. The Coop is the nearest supermarket - when you park, enter the number of your space and take a ticket - its free for the first 30 mins but you still have to display a ticket.

5 mins away are the Reichenbach Falls (where Sherlock Holmes met his end) and its a really nice trip up the funicular. Walk up the trail opposite to access the top of the falls; its quite steep and we didn't make it all the way, but 2/3 of the way up is a viewing balcony & bench with a wonderful aerial view of Meiringen & the valley.

The Aare Gorge is 5 mins the other way and is an amazing place - the river flows through an increasingly narrow gorge of 200ft high cliffs (2m wide at the narrowest point)and you can walk the length of it in about 40 mins on a suspended gallery walkway with a few tunnels. There is a good value ticket which allows access to both the gorge and the falls, but buy it at the gorge.

Further away is Interlaken and the Jungfrau railway, another fantastic visit - if you like mountain/lake scenery you will not be disappointed.

A lovely site in a beautiful area. The owners were very friendly and helpful and made it a pleasure to stay here. The toilet facilities were perfect with separate facilities for men & women. The town is about ten to fifteen minutes walk away and should you wish to use it the railway is in the centre of town with good connections to many of the cities. When you step out your door in the morning the views are amazing with snow capped mountains in all directions. If you are a Sherlock Holmes fan you can visit the museum in town and also the waterfalls where he supposedly died.

Following a good review we stayed on this site for 2 weeks in Sept 2012. On arrival we found the entrance to the site a bit disappointing as there are a number of permanent caravans with an assortment of buildings built onto them, a bit of a mess to be honest.

However when we got into the touring area it was lovely. Flat pitches with 13 amp elec and most had water supply but not drainage. The owners are very welcoming and the shower block up to the best CC standards.

There is so much to see and do in the area. I would thoroughly recommend this site.

We were staying at a site near Luzern which was very busy so we decided to go to Meiringien to see Alpencamping as advertised in Camping Card ACSI. We were greeted by one of the family who owned the site and was invited to look around.

The site was almost empty and the toilet and washing facilities were spotless.

We decided to take our caravan there the following day.

We were greeted by Monica, one of the owners who was really friendly. We said we would stay for about seven nights. We actually stayed for seventeen nights. The site is set in a valley surrounded by a 360 degree view of snow covered mountains. All the pitches had electric and water taps only about five meters from the pitch.

The pitch was grass, kept well cut and level they varied from 80 to 100 sq meters.

The toilet facilities were even better than Caravan Club sites, absolutely spotless. They were heated and when you walked in music started to play, a nice touch we thought.

The town of Meiringen is only a 15 minute walk away and there are two Supermarkets, one with a restaurant in. There are numerous restaurants and shops in the town. Switzerland is said to be expensive but is no more expensive than France in the food shops.

The is a train station in the town where you can catch a train to Luzern, Brienz or Interlaken. Also the Post Bus can take you anywhere, even up the mountain passes. Sir Arthur Conen Doyle wrote some of his Sherlock Holmes books there. When you arrive at the site you get a tourist card which give you up to 20% off of some of the attractions there

There is a play area for children and television room. With the ACSI camping Card, it cost us 18 euro's per night which we thought was very good for what you got. I could go on but would thoroughly recommend this site for a perfect stay in Switzerland. We will be returning there.
