Having read the reviews (one gives ten stars which implies perfection) we went with high hopes.
The owners are delightful, the CDP and amenities are good, but I have two reservations. The first is the poor state of the field.
Although the field is level it is very bumpy. There are a lot of bare earth patches and the grass has been virtually taken over by clover. A bit of TLC and some mowing is needed.
The second problem is the train line. Other reviewers have made light of this but it’s the East Coast main line for heaven’s sake. Very busy and very noisy especially when the inter city comes through at high speed. To be fair it didn’t bother us at night but it ruins the peace and quiet through the day.
At seven pounds a night this is at the upper end of the scale for a non electric site. I’m afraid it had nothing going for it and I won’t be going back.

What a site. Brilliant. Stayed here on 3 separate weekends
The owners are so helpful and friendly.
The site is basic but what else does one need
Lovely walks in the vicinity
If you want peace and quite this is the place
Ok there is a train track but it soon disappears into the background.
It is the kind of place that when you are there you don't want to move.
Will be going back again and again
The elsan point is fenced off and clean with a water tap ----- there also 2 drinking water taps positioned at the sides of the fields
Just needs a sign from the A19
But this site is lovely as well as Charles, Sandy and David

We visited this site for the first and what a little gem it is the site is flat and basic it has a c d p and fresh water taps. Surrounded by trees and wood land.
The owners of the site are very nice friendly couple. Access to site is good, but road is narrow with lots of passing places. I had no problem driving my motor home down to site from the A19, which is the best access. Ignore A1 access as the road is really bad. This was advice was given to me by site owners.
We definitely will be returning in the near future.

Stayed here for 2 nights. It's a great but basic certificated site. The weather was glorious and we were the only ones on the site, fantastic!
There are no toilets or showers, there is a CDP (with water tap) screened behind a fence and 2 fresh water taps. The site is well maintained and flat, no need for levellers etc.
The camping area is a very large field split into two sections as there is a rally area. There is plenty of space for ball games away from any pitches as the field is huge.
The owners are very friendly and checked if we needed anything or any local information when we arrived. There is a train line near the site but it's hardly noticeable.
The owners of the site also own a nearby pond which campers can fish in. I didn't get chance to fish during our visit but will when we revisit this site.
There are fantastic walks through the woods and on public footpaths. Dogs can be off the lead as most of the area is arable farm land so there are no problems with livestock.
Helperby and Brafferton do have limited services including a village shop and butchers. There is a larger selection of shops at Easing old which is around 5 miles away. There are pubs at Helper by Brafferton which also serve food but we didn't get chance to visit them unfortunately.
Close to York/Thirst and Easingwold are all within a short driving distance if you fancy busier days out.
This is a great site and we will be returning soon
