It was easy to find, typing Oakland’s fishery into Google maps took us right there. Lots of narrow roads on the approach, but they were quiet.
We were greeted on arrival, but there is a bell to ring if the reception is unattended. They were very welcoming. We camped at the lake.
There was plenty of sun by the tent as the hedge behind it is only small at the moment. And the fence is handy to dry your wetsuits on.
You can camp on the other side of the fence from the lake which would be better for young children.
There are toilets a short walk away but limited lighting and no toilet roll. There is an outside sink to wash your hands afterwards.
The view from the tent was beautiful, lots of grey lag geese and goslings, with the woods behind. We had to poo pick the pitch before putting up the tent as the geese had been grazing there.
There was always something to look at and we enjoyed watching the fish being caught and released. It’s a large site but very well spaced out.
The play area was quite a distance away on the other side of the meadow. The children loved the trampoline.
There were lots of places to camp in the woods and other places, with toilets at regular intervals, which are unisex.
The phone signal for both EE and O2 was great from the tent.
You could paddleboard (if you had brought your own and paid) on the next lake along. We also brought body boards. It’s 9’ deep in places but you can stand up in most of it. Or you can swim in the same lake. You can buy a pass for the duration of your stay so you don’t have to pay every day, which works out cheaper.
You can buy a huge crate of wood for £5 and there are lots of fire pits to use.
There is a mobile phone charging point near the play area, but you’ll need a plug.
There is a small shop. Visitors are allowed for a fee. The children had a go on the quad bikes and really enjoyed them.
It was quiet at night.
We went to Church Stretton for fish and chips and pizza and both were very good.

Nice site in a good location. Quite busy with lots of campers, both tents and vans. The site has enough space that you can all spread out.
From the site you can walk up to wenlock edge and then there is good walking along to main towns.
If you have children then be careful there are lakes here. Of course if you like to fish then that would be an asset.

We travelled with a young child and friends. All made very welcome. Staff very hospitable and friendly.
Lovely pitch at March Lake and plenty of space to run around and play for kids.
A nice woodland area for a walk. Peaceful and lovely views. Love the campfires and freedom on the site.
Toilet and showers very basic and simple but clean enough

What a fantastic place, so peaceful with scenic views.
Enjoyed a lovely night and day next to the main lake.
Tried a bit of fishing too and was kept busy with small carp and rainbow trout, supposed to be a couple of 20 pounders in there!
Christine and Richard are wonderful hosts who give a big welcome and then leave you to your privacy.
Can highly recommend if you're looking for a peaceful time

Oaklands is one of the most delightful settings we have stayed in. We opted for EHU which meant we were in one of the first fields - each field in the top part of the site has just one row of pitches so the only option is to park overlooking beautiful green countryside, there is no way you can end up facing another row of caravans or campers here!
Our pitch overlooked a beautiful field, and then beyond to woodland and the lakes. Behind us was the disused railway track (which we walked this morning - we actually disturbed some deer, fantastic sight!). The pitch was level and the grass was well maintained.
One of the joys of this site is the option for campfires - very cleverly, the owners have provided each pitch with a hoop of corrugated iron to contain the fire. Simple but very, very effective. And there is plenty of fallen wood to be had too.
Another joy is the lack of rules on display - always a big bonus for us! Apart from one small notice in the shower asking users to give the floor a bit of a wipe to prevent accidents, I don't think we saw a single sign telling us what we could or couldn't do. That completely sets the tone for a nice, relaxing weekend.
The owners, Richard and Christine, are lovely; very welcoming, very knowledgeable, very approachable. Richard spoke to us about his plans for the lakes and he is clearly very committed to making the site even better.
The site is still being developed - at the moment the facilities are a little modest. The block at the end of the field had one each, male and female toilet, plus one shower. All were spotlessly clean. We didn't have to queue for either, but as the site grows I imagine they will have to add more blocks. The shower is free and there is hot water but the temperature controls are on the outside of the building so don't undress until you have the temperature you want!
The fishing lakes are surrounded by lovely walkways, through fields and woodland, and there is so much wildlife - as well as the deer, we saw geese, a heron, rabbits, dragonflies. Even the red rump of a stoat. It is a lovely place to stay if you are happy to explore.
I didn't spot any play areas for children, and given the limited toilet/shower facilities as well I'd probably say that this site might not yet be ideal for people with young children. But don't rule it out - if your kids enjoy rambles through woods spotting butterflies and shepherd's huts then give it a go.
