Great location lovely views. Left to our own devices

No welcome from owners on arrival, we had to locate the waste facilities ourselves.

We were the only occupants which was nice but it would be very crowded if there were 5 caravans.

We ha e never been to Devon before had to find our way around. We have 2 dogs unfortunately no dog work near by but we asked at the local kennels for dog walks.

Over priced @ £ 20 per night gates left open to entrance of site even though they were electric not closed at night.

Will not be returning, not safe for families as gates left open main road

As the only reviews are from yonks ago (Yorkshire speak for old) I thought I’d leave an up to date review.

We received a warm and friendly welcome from the owner, we were told where everything was and then left to our own devices. We had the choice of a grass pitch or hard standing. Hard standings were not very pleasing on the eye, just areas on the owners drive/track; to put up an awning would be near on impossible, but the views were wonderful. The grass pitches (3 in a row, side by side and quite cosy) were down a slope with hedging to the back thereby limiting the views. We chose the corner grass pitch as we wanted to put up an awning as we were staying for quite a while. A bit difficult to level the van, the grass was cut regularly but beware of hidden potholes, I stepped into one, landed on my derrière and twisted my ankle.

I wouldn’t describe this site as peaceful, it is at the side of the road, there is a train line very close with trains running very late and we occasionally heard the dogs from the nearby kennel but we got used to these noises and it didn’t spoil our stay.

We liked the location of this site, it is close to many of the towns and villages Devon is famous for and we visited lots of wonderful places such as Dawlish, Paignton, Babbacombe, Goodrington, Stoke Gabriel, Torquay and Brixham. We particularly enjoyed cream teas at Cockington and spent lazy days on the beach at Maidencombe, (a nice walk, fee car park and 136 steps down to the beautiful cove).

The only disappointment was that there isn’t really anywhere close to walk the dog for morning/late evening doggy business. There is no dog walk on site and the road has no pavements. There is a nice wood up the road but we felt safer going by car (parking was free) in fact we went everywhere by car but this was by necessity, not choice. I had hoped there would be access into the woods closer to the site but the lane I saw on google maps had a gated entrance so access to the footpath on my map wasn’t accessible. I wouldn’t think this site is suited to families with children as there is nowhere for them to play, to run around and let off steam. There are horses in the fields and they were very friendly but other animals mentioned in a previous review were nowhere to be seen.

We had a bit of a problem exiting the grassed area when leaving with the caravan on the last day. The slope of wet grass was very slippy, the car wheels were spinning and continued to spin on the gravel driveway. It didn’t help there was a car parked very close to the top of the slope. We were unable to swing round and ended up knocking on his door and got him out of bed (sorry, if you’re reading this) but it was 8. 30 so it wasn’t too early.

We really enjoyed our stay. Toilets and showers were closed (covid19) so we used our own facilities, . The site provided ehu, tv point, waste disposal area and our own water tap. The site also offers free WiFi but this was poor and unreliable. For £15 per night, we thought it was good value for money.

A fantastic CL site, we received a very warm welcome from the owner on arrival, he was friendly and very helpful, the site is in a good position to many of the attractions and resorts of the area. Various superstores in near proximity, so you can stock up and not spend half your holiday food shopping!

The site itself is well maintained, with good spacing of pitches, numerous water points, an electronic security gate and a secure chemical disposal point. The neighbouring field to our pitch had a gaggle of geese in it, which although a great novelty for the kids concerned us due to noise, however they proved to be perfect neighbours and went to bed at 8pm and did not get up again until 9am each morning.

Can't recommend this site enough if your are looking to visit South Devon

An ok CL on a smallholding with lovely animals and birds, near to Kingskerwell and about 4 miles from Newton Abbot, 5 miles from Torquay so usefully situated. Easy to get to both the coast and Dartmoor. It has a hardstanding area and appears to be the only CL in the area with this, which is why we chose it for our Christmas getaway.

To find the site, turn right off the A380 where the Barn Owl pub sign appears, then follow the directions in the CC book. Entrance is through 2 gates, a metal electric one, then a wooden one. The site is a short concrete drive with an area of hardcore to the right, plus a rather sloping grass area. Plenty of ehu to choose from. The downside is that it's rather scruffy looking, it is a working smallholding after all, but the site name would suggest that is landscaped in some way, not the case. Dave the owner is friendly (as is his cat!).

Free WiFi is a big plus, otherwise apart from ehu there are no other facilities. The price as stated in the CC book is £11, which is perfectly acceptable, but their website states £15, which would not be. We were charged £11 'because it's Christmas', so would suggest asking when you book. Sky TV signal is very easy to find, considering that the site is in a valley. Views are somewhat restricted by this. It would be no good for children, nowhere to run around.
