Staff excelkent friendly and helpful, site is lovely clean and quiet, sports centre facilities available for free, showers, toilets, bar and food all available during open times.
Two hard standing pitches and an enormous field surrounded by trees. Child friendly playground, Railway station within 2 min walk shops less than a mile.
Must visit is the Steam Machine brewery 5 minutes away.
We will be staying on a regular basis as we visit family, just make sure you get the keys for the water point and elsen, or fill up in the sports centre.
Great semi wild site.

The site is large, clean and quiet, with just the basics of water and elsan emptying points.
We made use of the sports centre showers and toilets on the mornings.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We didn't make use of any other facilities including the bar and food as we were attending a steampunk event at the Steam machine brewery (great beers, food etc) which was only a 10 min walk from the site.
We were the only unit on site for the 2 nights.
For the £12.50 per night for our campervan and awning I would definitely recommend this site and we will probably be using it again in the future.

As we were attending a gymnastics competition in Newton Aycliffe I had looked for somewhere we could camp and walk to the venue.
This site fit the bill perfectly and worked really well. The town centre was a 15 minute walk away down pleasant footpaths and quiet roads.
We are standalone for camping so we didn't make much use of the on site facilities, except for the play area which the kids enjoyed.
The staff were wonderfully friendly and accommodating. The only thing that would have made it better is if the toilets had been open at 8am so we hadn't had to use our camping toilet :) Otherwise it was absolutely perfect for our needs.

This is a basic site on a large field behind a large council owned sports centre. Facilities are basic ie water point and toilet dump but you can use the sports centre showers and toilets during opening hours i. E. 8. 00 a. M. Until 10. 00 p. M.
Staff are friendly and the centre has lots to offer: badminton, table tennis, indoor bowls and a golf course. Everything is reasonably priced and there is a good bar that serves food, also very reasonably priced. We paid £10. 75 per night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The camping field is pleasant, well looked after and has mature trees. Dog walks are plentiful and the atmosphere is relaxed. This is a C&CC club certificated site so it can only take 5 units. There is plenty of room and you could really spread out.
One day we walked into town to get some basics. Make sure you ask for directions as we followed signs and walked much further than necessary.
Another day we walked to a nearby village as the pub there had been recommended (George and Dragon in Heighington) Food there was recommended and it was very friendly. Loads to do here and a great find for golfers or people who enjoy sports.
We'll definitely come back.

Stayed here for four nights and what a hidden gem, very basic site with water and Elson point but all other facilities in the Sports Centre were available free of charge.
The centre also served bar meals at very reasonable prices and very tasty the meals were, we visited an old friend who lived just over the road from the site and as so visited Shildon Railway and Beamish will return here again and explore further around the area.
