We were the first people to camp at Culeaze and I must say it was an amazing experience. The Major was very welcoming and told us all about Culeaze and invited us to make ourselves at home and walk where ever we liked in the grounds of his wonderful home.
We'd had a 5 hour journey and arrived quite late at night, he invited us into his home and revived us with a can of beer, which was most welcoming.
The camping area is on the banks of the River Piddle and is a most beautiful setting. The toilets and showers are kept very clean and are a short walk from the camp area. His 'Sergeant Major' lives in the cottage near the camp site and is always very friendly and helpful.
I would highly recommend this camp site and will definitely be visiting it again.
There is a shop 10 mins down the road and a petrol station, The Jurrasic coast line and tank museum and Monkey world is just down the road and there are many quaint villages to visit and many castles to explore.
I loved every minute of being there and am sure that once word get round more people will visit and The Majors campsite will flourish.

We visited the site in May 2012 on its first opening weekend. I must say we were not impressed to say the least. Yes, the site is located by the river (more stream in that particular place) but that's about it when I think about the positives. When we arrived, the grass was just being mowed to make the space for the pitches, and there were about 5 pitches prepared with the rest of the field left with grass up to your waist height. None of the facilities were ready to use, with and toilet just being painted when we arrived and no washing up facility at all. There is only one loo and one shower on site, both at quite a distance from the pitches. They were also dirty, with lots of spider webs, spiders and not cleaned even once during our stay. It was also pricey- £10 or £12(can't remember exactly) PER PERSON not PITCH per night- far too much for such a poor standard. Overall, I would not recommend to stay there and would definitely not be going back!
