This is a small but well maintained site with neatly cut grass and a flower box at each pitch and located on a working farm. Hard ground (strong pegs needed) and good drainage. There are no showers or toilets so you need your own facilities, but only a short walk to the water/disposal points. I paid £5 per night for my tent. Electricity would have been £2 a night extra. Very laid back, I struggled to find anyone to pay for my stay.
No shops handy although there is a post office nearby which I never investigated, also a cheap carvery pub a few minutes walk away. Gentle rolling countryside and lots of heritage. Hardwick Hall is virtually in the back yard and Bolsover Castle nearby. The DH Lawrence museum / birthplace is about 30 minutes drive away. A pleasant relaxing stay.

What a lovely site! Level, well cut grass pitches with lovely planted tubs inbetween each pitch. Electrics, water and bin area easily accessible.
We had a warm welcome from the owners - very informative about the local area - close to Hardwick Hall and Bolsover. They welcomed our children (13 and 11) and they loved riding their bikes in the recently cut wheat field.
We were only stopping overnight before moving upto Yorkshire but this site will definitely be one we return to!

Spent 3 nights at Rowthorne with my wife and son and have been 4 times before in the past 2 years. We don't live far from Rowthorne and always use it as a beginning of the year and end of the year.
The site is situated behind a working farm. A grass field with 5 electric hook ups with loads of space. All have brilliant views towards Derbyshire and Hardwick hall. The field is flat and drains well when it rains we have never had a problem in heavy rain. The site is fenced off and has 20amps each.
There is fresh water/elsan and waste bins. You use your own toilet and shower.
Within walking distance is a small shop/post office nr glapwell and 2 food pubs. In the other direction just out of the farm is rowthorne village. A sleepy little place and very well kept. Reminds me of jersey. You can walk to hardwick hall via foot paths from the site.
The owners are very pleasant and very relaxed how you set up etc. Keep the noise down and relax. Don't worry if you cant find the owners to pay. £10 per night its that laid back, they will eventually find you.
If you want days out. There's hardwick hall, mansfield is about 4 miles away, chesterfield about 6 miles away, peak district about 15 miles, and Sherwood forest about 7 miles.
M1 motorway is about a mile away and is easy to drive from junction 29 through glapwell and into rowthorne. If you need anything for your caravan ie gas, toilet fluid etc. Bolsover caravans is next junction up the M1, j30. A big caravan sales and parts. Well worth a visit as its very cheap and they look after you.
If you want peace and quiet. Relax and just sit about or go for walks then this is the place. If you are looking for entertainment don't bother.
