This was our first visit to a Yelloh 'village' but it won't be our last.
We went for 11 nights from the last week of July through the first week of August. The weather was fantastic and can be relied upon to be sunny most days with the odd rain cloud usually at night.
The facilities here are very good especially the pool complex, the pizza restaurant, the toilet blocks and unusual activities such as archery. The gym requires improvement if it is to be taken seriously as it is upstairs in a small room that overheats quickly (even in early morning) and there is no air conditioning.
Having said that, if you like to keep fit, you can run to the beach in five minutes and create some nice circuits to run for as long as you like.
The proximity of the beach is really close, a ten minute walk to many bars and restaurants and the usual beach type souvenir shops. There is a gem of a surf school hidden away and lessons can be booked at the Yelloh village. Since this is the Atlantic, the surfing is really good for all abilities.
One thing we did not enjoy was our pitch. It was called a 'riverside' pitch because it was below the main site and close to an estuary. There were pitches on both sides of the road that ran parallel to the estuary and all were laid with very fine, dry sand - the sort that gets everywhere! If you are lucky enough to be on the estuary side of the road then the positives of extra space and the view over the river/sea with free sunsets thrown in, probably outweigh the sand. But, if like us, you were on the wrong side of the road, you had the sand with few positives to outweigh it as the view was blocked by the luckier campers. In addition, when it rained heavily, as it often does overnight in this part of the world, the rainwater runs down the embankment from the main site straight through your pitch - again if you are on the unlucky side! Still we put up with it and stopped brushing out the tent after the first few days. At least we can say we have camped on a beach!
The prices are high but as experienced campers in France, you do get what you pay for. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and multi-linguistic. The site is generally clean and well kept and security guards patrol at night to help keep the teenagers under control. We had three of our own there and they really liked making new friends and playing volleyball/table tennis/football in various areas of the park. There are activities most evenings but mostly very amateurish from what we saw.
It is a great area for exploring too. Bordeaux an hour or so up the cost and Biarritz/Bayonne an hour or so South. Spain can be driven in around two hours and the Dune du Pilates is not too far north near the Arachon basin just South of Bordeaux.
We quickly found an enjoyable routine alternating between beach and pool and enjoying French hospitality by trying out each bar in turn over the 12 days.
There is a small supermarket on site with a bakery and larger supermarkets are a 15 minute drive to Mimizan.
Highlights for us have to be, the beach, the pizza restaurant and view from the restaurant over the pool at sunset.

This was a lovely camp site with excellent facilities and at low season was good value for money. It may have a totally different feel at high season when there are a lot of holiday makers on site but we found it peaceful and relaxing.
We had a fantastic pitch overlooking the river with a distant view of the sea to our right.
The facilities were really good; the swimming pools (two of them heated) had a fantastic view over looking the mouth of the estuary, the sports and activities facilities were extensive (including volley ball, archery, table tennis), the on site shop was well stocked and the toilet/shower facilities were clean and modern. There was also a restaurant which we did not try and bike hire which we did (13 euros for 24 hours).
The people at reception were very helpful and courteous - the only fault was that on our departure day we wanted to leave at 8 am but we were not able to get the 20 Euro deposit for the barrier until 9 am.
It is about a 5 minute walk from the camp site to the beach and there are a number of shops, bars and restaurants. The beach is fantastic - wonderful golden sands stretching for miles and is excellent for kite flying and surfing, however you would need to be aware of the undertow when swimming.
The area is ideal for cycling or walking with a smooth tarmac pathway connecting the resorts to the north and south going through woodlands following the coast line.
