Although we (I) booked the week to co inside with a 3 day fishing festival we used Tamar lakes as a base to visit the South West coast. Bude 15-20 mins. Newquay about 1hour 45 mins away
Brilliant facilities, clean and tidied daily through the week.
Site was really good clean and well maintained. (take levelling blocks) lovely walks around the Upper and Lower lake. Wheelchair friendly path. I'm unsure if they walked/pushed all the way around the 3 miles though.
The water activities centre was at a minimum I think due to the fishing festival that was to take place. I'm unsure about disabled pegs for fishing as the water was a little low when we were there so you would be advised to ask before hand.
Cafe staff very friendly and the food was delicious.
On the fishing front, beautiful location and the staff were most friendly and knowledgeable. I'm just waiting for confirmation of the festival for next year before I book again :-)

Pros. Lovely area, no traffic noise, nice views and walk around the lake (although much further than we had imagined)there are lots of water sports available if that's your thing and cycle hire. Great new looking play area for little ones and a nice looking cafe that we didn't try. All the staff where very pleasant and helpful.
Cons. Camping seems to have been an after thought. It took a while to find out which pitch we had been allocated. The pitches are packed in with no definite divisions so some people where spreading out more than others. There are no roads marked, so driving to your pitch was a bit haphazard with campervan and motorhomes mixed in with the tents. The camping field is on a slope so lots of propping up of tables and manoeuvring of beds ect.
The main issue we had was the communal showers and changing room, which none of us was comfortable using and they where always wet and muddy from people changing after doing the watersports. As another review mentions think school changing room 40 years ago. Also the lights in the loos are operated by a motion sensor outside which plunges you into darkness after about a minute unless you are lucky enough to have someone else walk outside while you are inside.
As the toilet block is part of the public facilities and out of site of the camping field I was uneasy about my youngest visiting on his own, likewise the playground is also public and out of site and as the tents are packed in there is nowhere thay can play and run around and be in sight of the tent.
There isn't someone on site 24hrs although there is an emergency mobile number to call. It may seem a small thing but by 6ish on Saturday the loos were out of paper with over 20 pitches full of families for the night.
We chose this site to try out our new tent as we only live 45mins away and where looking for somewhere close by for future short camping experiences with our boys but have crossed this firmly off the list, which is a shame.

Well, it looks like one year on from the last reviews and the Tamar Trust has done nothing to improve the facilities.
We stayed for four nights this August. It would have been for less but we were too lazy to move and we had pre-paid.
Over-priced for the facilities is very true but that just scratches the surface.
We had booked two hard standing pitches (because apparently, everything else was booked up) online and turned up to find one of them had a caravan on it already. Down at reception (in the watersports centre), we were treated to the kind of care you get from your local municiple swimming pool staff -i. E. Next to none - and were told we could pitch up anywhere we liked on the site as they didn't have any other bookings. So we set up on the slope (it's all on a slope, even the hard standing) and hooked up.
The field has some shelter from the wind with some young trees and surrounding hedges and it does look out over the lake but apart from that, I'm running out of positives.
The rubbish/recycling area was a mess and the loos and showers are shared with the watersports centre which means communal showers (one has flimsy curtain you can pull across) with push buttons that give you five seconds of water before cutting off. In the gents there is a single wash basin and a single loo (plus 2 urinals right beside the wash basin. If I was paying very basic prices, I wouldn't mind so much (but the shower situation just isn't good enough). But it's not the cheapest site and the staff just didn't seem to care most of the time. It's not that they were deliberately rude but they wouldn't acknowledge your presence unless you initiated the conversation. It was like, they were too busy with whatever else they were doing.
To top it all, on our last night, one member of staff came up and said there had been a mix up and we were on the wrong pitch, using the wrong hookup. We pointed out to him that this was where they said we could go to which the guy shrugged and said, 'oh well, they (the new arrivals) can go over there, then', pointing to a very sloped section near an EHU
The new arrivals were a young family who were less than impressed that we were on their pitch and even less impressed with the alternative location. The staff has scarpered by this stage, leaving us to deal with the problem.
Fortunately, we helped them find a better location, gave them our hook up and managed to stretch our cable to another point. - no thanks to the campsite staff.
If you are an avid watersports fan and intend to make use of the watersports facilities on site every day, then it's a great location but I can't think why else you would want to stay here.
Won't be coming back.

A lovely, small and friendly campsite in the heart of the countryside just outside Kilkhampton. Shower block and toilets are cleaned daily but can get a bit 'mucky' as they're used by people doing water sports on the lake too. We didn't have EHU (but they are available) Very quiet with beautiful views over the lake. Lots of water sports on offer for those interested and gorgeous walks around the lake. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and would happily return.

We spent 2 nights here. It is very peaceful with no traffic or road noise. It's very popular with fishermen and was busy on the Friday night and Saturday with kayaking and sailing. You can walk right round the lake - it's three miles and firm gravel all the way round. However if the owners want to charge £17 per night in off peak season they seriously need to look at the facilities on offer. The shower block was like stepping back 40 years to the school netball changing rooms! One large room with wooden benches all the way round, shiny painted flooring, damp on the walls and floor and the showers are communal separated with white plastic shower curtains. I'm sure the sailing and kayaking crowd may find it acceptable but other campsites offer better facilities for the same cost.
We chose this site as its convenient for visiting our grandchildren but for future visits we will look elsewhere. I would not use this site again as I think it is overpriced and offers poor facilities.
