A wonderful campsite in a beautiful location.

We stayed for a night in September with a group of friends and were lucky enough to have the whole site to ourselves!

The site manager was brilliant, keeping us supplied with logs for the fire and and gave excellent advice about walks and pubs in the local area. He also made sure the hot water system was fired up in the morning ready for washing or trying the watering can shower system. We couldn't have asked for a better host!

The fire pit and BBQs are fantastic, and it is lovely to be able to cook all your meals over a log fire.

The horse box eco toilet block is basic but kept very clean and emptied regularly.

All in all a beautiful location, brilliant management and great facilities for a quiet weekend getting away from it all in the countryside. We will definitely be back next year.

Campfire weekends! This place is simply fantastic.

The site was very naturally pretty. The walks were beautiful and we got to meet the cows and sheep of the surrounding fields.

Farmer was a wonderfully knowledgeable and affable chap. (Though we're not sure he's actually a farmer?!) He not only did everything he could to make our stay comfortable and convenient, he went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed ourselves and seemed genuinely concerned that we did. And. He gave us some great tips for local activities that we never would have found on our own.

Perfect for a quiet get away or random chance meeting of other friendly campers. It feels like everyone respects the preciousness of such a well run, family owned business and that makes it one of the best sites we've ever been to.

Clean, friendly, beautiful, relaxing, fun.

We will most definitely be back.

My boyfriend and I stayed here the the last May Bank Holiday weekend in 2013.

Its a beautiful site. A large quiet field next to a field of sheep.

The site wasn't busy. A few couples and a few larger groups - including a group of 10 lads but we got talking to one of the group and commented on how quiet they were in the evening and he said 'oh its such a special place that you want to be respectful of it'.

At night, there is no light pollution so the stars are wonderful and the full moon was so bright that it was like daylight.

The toilets are 'short drops' but were very clean and actually almost pleasant.

We didn't use the shower as you have to heat the water yourself and it takes about half an hour but we really liked this aspect of it. Its the closest we've been to wild camping. Just a meadow (it's not a mown field) with a few other campers and no hard standings or roadways or kids' playgrounds (or kids). Just groups of friends playing frisbee (far away from everyone else) and loads and loads of privacy and peace and quiet. There are woods for walking and at night you can hear loads of owls and deer.

David is a wonderful host. He brought us the rented BBQ when we arrived and we bought two bags of logs from him for £5 each. We didn't use all the logs and left a bag behind as we didn't have room in the car for them. Within a couple of days of getting home, I received a lovely hand written note with a crisp fiver in it for the unused logs! Something I wasn't expecting at all.

I also drove my car into a bog. My own fault - after the heavy rain all week, the edges of the field were very muddy and everybody else had sensibly avoided them. David gave us a very cheerful and prompt tow out of the mire.

We loved it and will definitely be back.

We based ourselves at Campfire Weekends for the May Day Bank Holiday weekend in 2013, which was the opening weekend for the season. We found this campsite the perfect situation.

A group of us were able to come and go during the course of the weekend, for a series of day time activities (walks, bike rides, and pub visits) with the site being an ideal place to come back to for an evening meet up round the camp fire.

Both the portable BBQs and the communal round fire pit are highly recommended as a cooking and late night warming facility. Dave offers a pack of wood for £5 to keep you going and if he does not light the fire himself then some fire lighters will do.

Waking up to the East Sussex countryside and the surrounding trees is a real breath of fresh air and cannot be beaten.

The toilet block was fully equipped and catered for and is ingeniously designed.

We would recommend the campsite for a quiet get-away as a couple or group of friends as you can make of it what you want.

This is an excellent campsite in a truly beautiful part of the world. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and pitched our tent in a lovely quiet corner next to the woods with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. The location is perfect, with many attractions and activities close by.

The campsite itself is brilliant, big enough to enjoy peace and quiet and keep yourselves to yourselves if you wish. The communal fire is great and allows you to join in with other campers to eat, drink and chat if you want to. Lots of firewood is provided and there are separate grills on the communal fire so that everyone can do their own cooking without getting in each others' way - a great idea! You can also hire an individual grill which comes with logs, kindling and firelighters which is great if you'd rather have a private BBQ in a quiet corner.

The toilet/shower facilities were spotless and clearly very well maintained which makes the whole experience much more enjoyable and relaxing.

We couldn't have asked for more here, the spot was beautiful, the facilities excellent and in a brilliant location. David is a great camp manager and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely worth a visit and fantastic value for money. We can't wait to go back!

What a gem of a campsite. We couldn't have wished for something better!

We found it on the off chance looking for a campsite close to the local climbing spots and truth is it couldn't be in a better location! Bowles, Harrisons and High Rocks, all within 10 min drive.

When we pitched up on Friday night, David miraculously appeared in the top field and offered to get the fire started for us! We were keen to get a quick climb in so while we went off to Bowles the fire was started and ready for a Barby on our return.

This form continued all weekend. The main campfire with grills and the sawdust toilets were all nicely put together and clean

David even lent a tent to our mate who forgot his poles!

Simple and quality campsite, in an amazing location with a nice walk through the woods to the local pub.

Spot on

Well worth a visit. Beautiful views and the wood burning BBQs are a super idea.

Facilities are basic but perfectly clean the very friendly and helpful owner David has out a lot of thought in. And the meadow is just beautiful!

We were sharing the field with four other tents but at 60 guests maximum it means you would have loads of space even if it was full.

There is a good pub circa 20 mins work down the main road or 40 the back way.

It took us 1 hour 20 from London and just a short drive away from Tunbridge Wells.

We will definitely be back. So what could be a better endorsement that that?

Just back from an absolutely perfect camping weekend at the idyllic Green Hedges Farm camping site and feeling completely chilled out. Perhaps one of the best camping trips ever!

We were attracted to this site because of its short distance from London (about an hour and half door-to-door from East Dulwich) and the fact that it was advertised as small and kids-free. In actual fact, we were the only campers this weekend on this very new site. It was just what we needed but I’m sure that we won’t be that lucky every time we visit. David, who has only recently opened up his field to weekend campers, definitely deserves word to get round quickly. This site is an absolute gem for those wanting an easy and quick escape from the city!

The communal fire, picnic benches and BBQ facilities are a great idea. And don’t be put off by the sawdust loo. It is 100 per cent better than any chemical toilet experience and much to my surprise includes a proper seat. The facilities were also the cleanest camping toilets we’ve ever visited.

The field itself is full of English meadow flowers and butterflies and even a massive dragonfly. The ground is even for pitching and free from thistles or cowpats – a personal irritation about more ‘wild’ sites! And, of course there are none of the annoyances that you can get with bigger sites, like wasps around the bins or queuing for the loo or the water-tap.

David was very friendly and came up to meet us when we arrived. He lit the communal fire for us but, unfortunately, it took so long to get our new tent up we didn’t get to enjoy it! But we definitely hope to return to Green Hedges very soon and recommend it whole-heartedly to anyone wanting a quick short get away from London’s daily grind

Great campsite, in a lovely setting in rolling green fields in the High Weald. Newly opened so not too busy yet. Plenty of space to get some privacy and get away from it all. The owner was welcoming and helpful but not too 'in yer face'.

The specially designed fire pits and barbies were a major attraction, we had a lot of fun building our camp fire and cooking. The owners have also invested in a quirky bespoke eco 'ablutions trailer' which is very shiny and new, even if the showers are a bit basic (fine for a couple of nights).

We also ate at the Mark Cross Inn - a mere stagger up the road from the campsite. They do anything from lite bites (eg soup and sandwiches) to proper restaurant meals. I had lambs liver and bacon with onion gravy and mash which really hit the spot.

There's plenty to do for a weekend in this part of Sussex but Nap Wood is worth a mention as it's only a five-minute walk from the campsite. It's a really lovely ancient woodland owned by the National Trust and has a droveway (if you're interested in that sort of thing!).

If you want designer yurts and endless supplies of hot running water this site probably isn't for you but if you like old-skool, back to basics camping with cooking on real fires in secluded countryside then it's well worth a visit.
