OK first off this site may not be for everyone! If you want pools for the kids, bar, Wifi or Mobile signal then this one if definitely not for you.
If you want showers and proper washing up facilities then this one is not for you!
If you want a site that is raw with basic facilities piece and quiet and allows open fires then read on!
I chose this site as it was one of a couple that I could get into at the last minute. Chris who owns the site was helpful on the phone and I paid over the internet so when we got there there was nothing much to do except set up the tent.
The facilities on the site are real basic. There are a few Portaloo's dotted around the fields and standpipes for water and that is it. No showers, no washing up facilities but that was the attraction for me and my boy. We wanted to just go and set up camp somewhere and rough it and make do. I didn't want to go completely 'wild' camping though so having water on tap and a toilet was the only essential. We still managed to wash, cook and clean and have a fantastic time.
The site is a couple of fields that could potentially hold about 15 tents, so we were told.
On our first night there was one other tent across from us but we did not really see who was camping there and they were gone in the morning. Second night (Friday) a couple more tents arrived, families with kids around my sons age but all very civilized.
The woods around the area are great to explore, adults or Children. There is a swing rope on an old robust and established tree and this got a lot of attention for climbing and swinging on. Even I had to have a go!
We cycled into Fletching, a few miles down the road and had a coffee one morning. Its a 30 min minute ride at a casual pace. From there we found a farm shop bought some food for the night and then came back to the Griffin pub in Fletching for lunch. The food here is a bit fancy and a bit on the pricey side but we shared a fish and chips @£14:00 and it was great. Just enough as a snack as that is all we wanted. Back to camp and cooked supper. As evening descended we lit our fire and cooked marshmallows on it and told made up horror stories!.
I wont detail all our trip as I am sure you will not be too interested. Lets just say that the site is good if you want basic. There are a couple of restaurants a few minutes walk into Nutley if that's what you want. One Indian and one Italian. We got a couple of takeaway Pizzas one night from there and it was great. There is also a pub that you can walk to in Nutley. You can either walk to it from the roads or go out of the campsite the back way and through the woods, which is the quickest way but you might need a good sense of direction, map reading skills or a GPS! I had the GPS!
Personally I would go back to the site again. As I have said though its not for everyone. I have scored the site based on my likes/dislikes. I should also add that some mornings we were aware of some aircraft noise but this must have depended on what runway they were using from Gatwick. During the day I cant say that I noticed it at all just a couple of mornings around 8am but we were getting up then anyway.

We had a lovely weekend at Tree Retreats. The simple layout in amongst fields and woodland was lovely.
Chris could not have been more helpful and friendly, making us feel very welcome. Also provided very good quality firewood! The portaloos were also kept very clean and well stocked and were immediately refreshed when needed.
There was a little noise from an unusually large group in the middle of the site, but they were very friendly and it was just the once.
The campsite is situated far enough from light pollution to make the Milky Way visible and our evenings were spent enjoying that view and listening to the owls that were close by. Quite idyllic.
There were even deer running past us when we walked through the woods.
If you are looking for a simple, quite few days away, we would recommend Tree Retreats.
